I think Malkin was a bit better play driver and did it with lesser linemates. His 11-12 season is pretty similar production relative to the league to Kucherov’s last year, though he missed games. I would also consider his ‘09 play offers better than Kucherov’s ‘20 and ‘21 for similar reasons. Kucherov has been a bit more consistent though, and if he has another huge year this year, maybe it’s harder to take Malkin for peak over only one year in a row.

Anything but "very close" would be going too far in either direction. I think there's good arguments either way, although I lean Kucherov.

Yeah Kucherov is building a case for prime but there’s only one right answer for peak here even if it’s close, and that’s Malkin, regular season and playoffs.
Yea i think Malkin at his best could take over an entire game by himself. In 09 playoffs his wings were Talbot and Fedotenko, whereas Kucherov has Point at all times. 2012 his 109 points in 75 games (119 pace) were with Crosby missing nearly the entire season and only 9 players in the league hitting 80 points. Last year 9 players hit 100+ points, 29 hit 80+.

Malkin’s best regular season and Kucherovs best regular season are close adjusted by era. Kucherov had much better line mates though.

Malkin’s 36 in 09 blows any of Kucherovs runs out of the water considering the era/goalie gear shrinkage. McDavids recent run is more similar to what Geno did in 09.

Those who view Kucherov as better for peak must also believe Kucherov is better than Crosby and Ovechkin, which is also not true. Malkin was on their level at his best.

I think it's very close but I would take Kuch. Malkin seemed to dominate more at his peak because his style just stands out more and is a bit more "flashy." Kucherov will dominate a game with you not even realizing it and thinking he's just gliding around out there because it looks so damn effortless for him. His hockey sense is just outrageous. I could see argument either way though, and as a Canes fan I certainly remember the 09 playoffs and how dominant Malkin was at his peak.

nah Malkin was not at a peak Ovi level ever. Crosby sure and I would agree Kuch's peak is right there with crosby.

Well Kucherov is on McDavid level at his best, who I think is better than Crosby and Ovi so

How is Kucherov on McDavid’s level at his best exactly?

Was not at Ovi level but Crosby sure? Interesting opinion, care to state why you feel this way?
