Kid was trying to take liberties. Coco was a vet. Taught him a lesson. Coco, despite being a smaller man in the business is known as a legit badass.

Have been watching some old Survivor Series while at work this week, watching the 1989 show today, ans while he was a terrible wrestler, Zeus looked like a million bucks, he was a monster, even compared to his teammates the Powers of Pain, who were pretty well put together themselves

Of course Zeus' skills also made the Warlord look like Bret Hart, so I suppose they got as much out of him as they could

Dude is Deebo from ”Friday”, they could have gotten more out of him.

The Montreal Screwjob was 25 years ago today. Damn!

Is it the most important turning point in pro wrestling history? I'm not sure but there is an legit argument for it considering how everything has transpired since. I think the wrestling world would of looked a lot different moving forward had it not been for the screw job and the fallout from it.

Crazy to think it was a quarter century ago that it happened.

After 25 years I am still on Team Bret.

As far as legitimate popularity, you would be hard pressed to find many pro wrestlers more over with the fans, especially globally, than Bret was during his face run from S-Slam 91 until WM12 in 96. Hogan's 1st run in WWF, Austin and Rock from 98 to 03. That's about it really especially if your talking a run of several consecutive years. I don't think a lot of younger fans understand how big a star Bret Hart was during his prime run. One of those rare babyfaces that pretty much every WWF fan at the time liked.

I prefer Michaels but I am happy to have them as my two favourite wrestlers ever. As it relates to the screwjob, I enjoy the existence of the phrase "Bret screwed Bret" in that is exposes someone has a moron immediately.

You could argue Hogan winning the belt the first time for that one based on that being the catalyst for wrestlings rise to mainstream popularity/pop culture. Of course the Screwjob inadvertently kicked off the Attitude Era, reigniting a stagnant business and taking wrestling to an even higher level of popularity & mainstream success.

It was also the incident that sort of killed kayfabe, it pulled back the curtain on the business behind the scenes. Fans using the internet became invested in the inner workings. Meanwhile mainstream stations like TSN started doing interviews with guys like Bret, Vince, Austin, Bischoff where they openly and willingly spoke about the scripted nature of the product.

I don't know. There is this idea that the Mr. McMahon character was born that night but the seeds for that were planted a couple of months earlier. McMahon vs. Austin was going to happen even if Montreal didn't.

Very true. McMahon sort of debuted the gimmick in Lawler's Memphis promotion and he was already basically feuding with Austin by autumn 1997. The screwjob just accelerated the process.

David Von Erich was so damn good. When I look back on wrestling my biggest “what might have been’s” are him and Magnum TA. Everything could have been different. I suppose you could throw in Hogan staying in the AWA as well.

Put on Summer Slam 89 today in the background while working, Shiavone and Jesse Ventura on commentary are cracking me up, during the the Honky Tonk Man vs Dusty Rhodes match Jesse mentions he heard that Dusty entered the Mr USA contest and won for Most Abs

When Jesse was on his game and invested there were few better

Do you have any recommendation for a David Von Erich match? I've only seen a little of him, and mostly in tags.
