When this trade first came out it was unreasonable. Chych is a #1 pairing, but far from elite, in my eyes anyway. These three or four for one will never happen unless a salary dump is included. That is why if BA can get overpayment, Chych is gone.
He wasn't a 1D last year and hasn't looked like a 1D this year, not tonight either.

Sure, in October '23 I'll cheer them on unless they are playing in Quebec or some other place I don't care about.
Fair. I just can't give them up, no matter how mad I get. It's what I imagine heroin is like. Brief moments of high, followed by a long, dredging hangover. Maybe this time they'll be cocaine! Just need get through the detox from heroine. I'm assuming we don't die during detox but you never know what ends up happening in Tempe.

Oh I'm not giving up. Just waiting for them to start wanting/trying to win again.

I’m still trying to think about what the heck Anaheim can offer us if McTavish is off the table. Perreault? Zellweger?

He looked terrible the last two games of what I watched. Some of that could be rust. I have said it a hundred times, I think Chych is a 1st. pairing, but not elite. Most of that analysis comes from his play last year. You start to hear these rumors over and over, you start to believe them.

I have an idea. Let's be open to listening to calls on Chychrun, but set the ask sky high and refuse to negotiate down or budge from the value we set him at. If no one meets that extraordinarily high cost, let's just keep him, because he's a great young defenseman on an awesome contract.

I think that’s the plan.

Probably in my mind, there's a marked difference between a "sky high" offer and the ideas that are being thrown around. I've seen very, very few offers that would make me understand why BA made the trade before the off-season. The vast majority seem like magic-bean offers without any potential impact players that might rise to the caliber of Chychrun today.

I’m not convinced he’s even a number one pairing.

Chychrun (50%) & Travis Boyd for Ian Cole (dump), Seth Jarvis, Scott Morrow and a ‘23 1st?

He isn't good enough on D to be a top pairing D right now. He is kind of like Yandle assuming his points pick up again. Yandle wasn't top pairing because of his D neither is Chych (yet). We are seeing it this year when he gets the tough minutes.

You may be right, but I think he is, but he sure misses OEL and Gogo. Those two were flamed on this board but both played a lot of minutes.

Very few players can do everything, so you don't have to be good on D to be a top pairing.

I value Boyd at about a 3rd round pick right now by himself.

Eating 50% of that contract (both cash and cap) for the next 3+ years has to be worth at least a late 1st/early 2nd, no?

Jarvis is an attractive young player, no doubt - but can he be an impact player when there's nobody to dish him the puck? If you know Wright is on the club next year, maybe this makes more sense. But who are we talking pairing him with - Hayton? Schmaltz? Maybe Larsson? That doesn't seem like we're acquiring a key piece to put him in a position to succeed.

This summer, if Carolina falls short, and once we've got some more retention spots, this would be more attractive. Maybe with Gardiner as the dead cap instead? By then we could get value out of Boyd, the retention spot for Ghost/Kessel, and we'd know if we had a center for Jarvis to play with or not.

Inform me of how you continue a rebuild, don't you need 1 good player with experience on offense (Keller), same for defense (Chychrun)? At some point the 'brakes have to be pumped' and reassess what you have and what you need. In baseball they always talk about being strong 'up the middle'. Hockey? Strong blue line= Chych, scoring= Keller. Why the HUGE consternation about trading Chych??

No idea. Seems dumb to trade him. I wish we’d keep him. Apparently we are not. Haha.

I agree with your valuations. That means “in a vacuum” it’s Chychrun for Jarvis and Morrow. Which I think is fair for both sides, honestly. The rest is window dressing.

Seemed like Lundqvist was a off the table guy just 6 months ago. Now its Schneider.
It's the what have you done for me lately mentality. Chych is getting a similar treatment. Every year there are players that have a bad stretch or season, then they come back and are fine the next year or after the Christmas break. Chych is slumping, he's an animal physically but I get the sense he lacks mental fortitude. Put him on a good team where he's the 2/3/4 guy and you have a killer. He's a top pairing guy in skill, maybe not so much in mind.

His zone exit passing pales in comparison to Yandle as well.... although he's "safer." But man, Yandle was incredible, despite his river boat gambler status!

My guess is that Janis Moser has done so well that they figure that Chychrun is more valuable as a trade asset than a keeper. And let's not beat around the bush - you don't get many opportunities to rake in a haul like Chychrun would command very often.

Injuries? Team played strong w/o him? Incredibly high potential return?
