Rumor: Chychrun has Soured on Ottawa, Unlikely to Extend

September 19, 2019: 8 years for Thomas Chabot
September 3, 2021: 6 years for Drake Batherson
October 14, 2021: 7 years for Brady Tkachuk
July 14, 2022: 8 years for Josh Norris
September 7, 2022: 8 years for Tim Stutzle
September 6, 2023: 8 years for Jake Sanderson

July 7, 2022: Trade 2022 1st round pick (7th overall), 2022 2nd round pick (39th overall), 2024 3rd round pick for Alex DeBrincat
February 22, 2023: Trade Nikita Zaitsev (cap dump), 2023 2nd round pick (44th overall), 2026 4th round pick for "future considerations"
March 1, 2023: Trade 2023 1st round pick (12th overall), 2024 2nd round pick, 2026 2nd round pick for Jakob Chychrun

All of these done before the team even made the Playoffs. Atrocious job rebuilding, Dorion is a clown. Time for new ownership to rebuild the rebuild.

stutzle and tkachuk are good contracts. sanderson likely ends up ok but they rushed his contract when they didn't have to.

Traded to Sens on 3/1/2023 for 2023 1st (Danil But), 2024 2nd (conditional), 2026 2nd

Would think he could still be moved for similar value as Sens gave up. A touch of a challenge to lose 10 teams to negotiate with but still enough teams to work a decent deal.

From the Rangers, I'd offer either:

A- 2024 1st, 2025 2nd, and Barclay Goodrow

or

B- 2024 1st and Ryan Lindgren

Both Rangers players are known as good locker room guys. The Rangers need to shuffle up their D-Pairs before the stretch run. The current group has been on the struggle bus and our top two pairs are too comfortable.

Asking out of a second team? Now I am concerned if this guy is the D version of Pierre Luc-Dubois.

Is that a pc term for “cap dump” these days?

Sometimes. To work for the cap, the Rangers do need to send back some salary. Goodrow is more of a cap dump. Lingren is an excellent defensive d-man. That's why there is an extra piece in the Goodrow proposal.

Both guys legitimately have an excellent reputation as good locker room guys.

People really underrate the trade value of a 12th overall pick. At the 2022 draft the 11th overall was traded for the 27th, 34th, and 45th overall pick.

Chychrun was dealt for a value roughly equivalent to 27th, 34th, 45th and two additional 2nds.

If Chychrun goes to Florida for a ‘26 1st and a ‘25 2nd, people will say that’s similar value. But it’s not, really. It’s light by about 3x 2nd round picks.

Sorta, Columbus got pretty good and then had 2 of 3 best players in franchise history just outright refuse to resign and it didn't have anything to do with mismanagement. This past year has certainly been a clown show
All 3 clowns are historically in the same car.

All-time point %:
Ottawa .504
Columbus .486
Arizona .476

He's probably wondering why he would hitch his wagon to a log jamb and a team that cant get it's shit together and for the money he will want it's entirely likely this decision has been made for him. Certainly gonna be the easiest to move for assets without a mile of term attached.
