Rumor: Chychrun has Soured on Ottawa, Unlikely to Extend

Ottawa has a bad history of keeping centre's healthy. That's not a position.they should weaken themselves. Ottawa wants to sign him long term while his stock is low.

Exactly.

I’d much rather trade any winger not named Brady and have Greig or Norris play wing to ensure we have four good options for the top 3 C’s in case of injury or suspension.

Don't be so sensitive. We had to endure troll offers for most of the last season until Chychrun was traded
That's because the Arizona GM said he was available and made it clear that he was getting traded before the deadline. You still got a good deal regardless, better than any offer that I've seen in this thread while you're offer was laughable at best. There is 0 indication that he is getting traded again.

This is the dman the Canucks should be all over. He fills their biggest weakness. Something he’s not going to be in Ottawa long term with Chabot and Sanderson. In Vancouver, Hronek is ok NOT carrying a pair. That’s who Chychrun is, and the role he sees himself playing.

It’s the one trade the Canucks can make, where I think they’d be willing to move a Grade A asset.

Another team looking to move him? Well at least he might play over 60 games in a season this year, that's a plus.

I'll pass on him. Super overrated.

Certainly is a summer deal, if there is one at all. Personally after the past 2 months I would keep Chabot and move Chychrun, but one of those two will definitely be moved in the summer.

If it's Chabot, it'll be at the draft (before his NTC kicks in) and if it's Chychrun, it'll be in July or August so the acquiring team can extend him as well. Could see him being moved for a similar aged player also with a year left on their deal.

One thing is pretty clear to me - if you are planning to play him on his right side, you are making a big mistake. He looks so much worse on the right side.

Ottawa could retain half for this year and next year if trading him.
So what are the offers if we move him for $2.3 million rest of season million, and $2.3 million next year.
That’s the best value D contract in the league for 2 playoff runs.

Sens would get less for him in the summer compared to what they'd get at the deadline, no question.

Logically, if the Sens trade Chychrun at the deadline a team would be willing to pay the rental price (value of getting him for a playoff run) + would be able to negotiate an extension in the summer or then trade him for the same kind of assets that the Sens would get if they dealt him in the summer to a team Chychrun would be willing to extend with.

Zero reason to wait until the summer to deal him. Would make no sense.

My concerns regarding both Chychrun and DeBrincat are both coming to fruition. It's honestly quite annoying. Lol

I disagree - I think the right trade in the summer will get the best return, once he is able to sign an extension. A team will be much more willing to deal top prospects or roster players for Chych in the summer, which is clearly what Staios is looking for. Otherwise we'll just end up with a late 1st, a late 2nd and a warm body at the TDL.

But you're missing the point that any team trading for Chychrun at the deadline could then deal him in the summer to a team he'd immediately extend with, replacing some of the assets they would have given up to acquire him from Ottawa, so logically that value to them should be factored into the return the Sens would get.

Of course the acquiring team could always look to extend him or just keep him on the final year of his contract too. If the Sens retain half his contract (which they should), getting Chychrun @ 2.3M for a two playoff runs and a full season should be worth significantly more than what the Sens would get for him in the summer.

This is why players with extra years on their contract (non-rentals) like Coleman, Goodrow, Hagel, etc... returned far more than anyone expected. They aren't pure rentals and getting them for an extra year on a bargain contract has significant value.
