It’s interesting how all of BA’s big deals came when the other GM was left without options.

Sakic needed a goalie after Grubauer left. Enter Kuemper.

Bergevin needed a centre after Kotkaniemi left. Enter Dvorak.

Benning needed to do something big after he lost a bunch to UFA like Markstrom. Enter OEL.

Will the Chychrun deal play out the same?
Patience is indeed a virtue.

Knies and a 1st is closer to proper value than Nylander, Knies and a 1st.
Only way Nylander is included is if we are moving one of Keller or Scmaltz. A year ago we just wanted out of either of these deals so maybe there is some logic there…. But its Eklund so it’s really not worth discussing outside of the fantasy of it and to make Sens fans squirm at the thought that they can’t move Zaitsev and they are stuck with their current D.

I still think Florida makes the most sense. They need to build around that middle 20s core and really only have four or five years for a window at this point. Which is how long Bobrovsky is signed. They moved out late 20s pieces in Huberdeau and Weegar for an early/mid 20s Tkachuk. Chychrun fits that age, too.

Their D core wasn’t good enough and they’ve lost Weeger and Chiarot and replace them with nobody. They’ve got one of the worst bluelines in the league. They’re in a really tough spot on defense.

Meanwhile they’ve got Knight and Bob. That’s called a luxury. Bob is signed to a long term mega contract with a NMC. Knight isn’t. The math is simple.

They have no picks and their prospect pool is probably the worst in the league. They can’t count on reinforcements on ELCs during this window. They aren’t coming. They are “all-in” and it’s time for Zito to play the only hand he’s got.

Knight for Chychrun makes too much sense not to happen. And to top it off, Chychrun is a local kid. BA had been looking for a goalie of the future. Knight is the best goalie prospect on earth. It makes too much sense.

Yeah I was mostly just having some fun with the "rumor" in the dog days of summer.

I think this is coming down to OTT, FLA and TOR (no Nylander though) in that order. EDM should be all over this too but another year goes by and they just hang onto their picks and prospects

Add LA and the Blues to the mic as well.

Sakic won a cup, he should have kept DVO our only decent C, and he should have traded OEL a year earlier, he wouldn't have had to include Garland. We haven't fleeced anyone yet and we won't on the Chych trade either.

Like they say "good things come to those that wait".
Great idea to wait a year to start the rebuild, trade OEL, fire RT, now Chych trade, waited too long. Good things come to those who act quickly and decisively in business.

Toronto rumors are interesting. Nylander, Knies, a late first and a cap dump would be great. I would imagine the Yotes could retain on Nylander and flip him for a solid return. After bonus hes only owed 8.5 million for the next 2 seasons. Or keep him to entice Matthews to come.

As has been mentioned, those TOR "rumours" aren't rumours, but rather made up clickbait nonsense by Eklund.

The only way a deal with TOR works would be if they were able to dump Muzzin as part of the deal and he has a NTC. So it would have to be a 3 way trade with the Yotes retaining 50% on Muzzin to flip him to a team he was willing to play for in exchange for more assets, but given his injury history I'm not sure anyone is interested in him even at 50%.

I think the only mistake BA made was waiting to fire RT. OEL had a NTC and that may have handcuffed BA. In good business you act quickly and decisively with management, then evaluate the lower profiled employees.

This seems to be the more reasonable take. I wouldn’t have minded seeing what another coach could have gotten out of that roster. In reality though, the team was never going to be good enough to be a cup contender with Dvorak and Hayton as our top centers. Continuing to draft in that 5-13 range also wasn’t going to help. I think it will end up working out for the better how things turned out.

No rush on forcing the trade through. Armstrong is going to be here a while, so not interested in seeing him capitulate to a lesser offer when there's nothing forcing the trade to absolutely go through. I highly doubt any perceived loss in value on the potential Chychrun deal would overcome the loss on future dealings where the opposing side knows Armstrong'll eventually give in so don't bother putting forth your best offer ever. Likewise, he's shown the same principle to be true for future free agents through his dealing with the Crouse signing.

I can't see TO being in on Chychrun. A late first and Knies would not be a good trade for the Yote's and I would hope other teams will offer much more.

It's August 16th and Chychrun is inexplicably still a Coyote....

Sens fans are crazy if they think we'll let them swap Zaitsev for Chychrun and they won't have to give up a top prospect. Even though it wouldn't happen, I hope BA is asking for Sanderson for that favor

I wonder if they'd give up on Boucher already. I feel like if you're getting two firsts, you can be a little riskier on the prospects. Boucher + Kleven isn't going to wow anyone but it's nice depth.

I'd rather have Thomson/JBD/Brannstrom. Need to begin rebuilding the blueline immediately if chychrun goes
