He did but not due to his speed, but because he is a very smart player and reads plays well. I would have to think he has been below average speed since he entered the league.

I am the same as many - I thought he was undervalued and underappreciated but either he is feeling the team pass him by or the Covid year has gotten to him...something is off and he just doesn't seem to be giving the effort I expect from a pro.

I bet he knows he's going to Seattle, so he has little invested in the team right now. He's just going through the motions, playing safe hockey.

He is a beast on the PK though. I don't get the Tierney hate. He's not hurting us in any way.

I don't think he has below average speed. I think he's average. He also has a weird skating style that makes him look slower than he really is.

The most boring player i have ever watched in the nhl. Seems like a beauty though and doesnt hurt anyone, but want him on the fourth line

I very much dislike him, always have, for really no good reason.

Objectively speaking though, he has to play with some offensive players to be effective. The problem is that we have very few talented wingers and it makes sense long-term to play them with the young kids like Norris.

We've tried playing him with Paul on a checking line, but he basically neuters Paul, and we need early season Paul back.

So what I'm saying is, Sell the boy.

A lot of the very different and varied comments pretty much all apply to Tierney. He's OK. I don't love him, or hate him. He's just kind of average as maybe a 3rd liner.

If he goes to Seattle, then he goes. It is what it is, and I'm not worried about that.

Some people love vanilla. Others think its boring.

Guys like Tierney will always be polarizing because of fans perception of 'effort'. I know he's not out there just not giving a shit, but his effort level in peoples eyes look a lot different than say a Brady Tkachuk.

Is it fair to hold people to Brady's level? Hell no. But we've seen it in the past with guys like Neil vs more skilled guys. 'why cant he try like Neil! That guys leaves it out there every shift!!'

He’s very good on the PK and he is good at forcing turn overs. In the offensive zone he is good at rushing the puck, but always stops and curls to pass it off so he ends up not being too much of a threat unless someone is open for the inevitable pass.

He’s a nice player, and has been great for us as an add in on the EK trade. We are in a place right now where we have guys pushing ito the line up and that makes Tierney the next likely guy to be moved out as we have kids that we’d a look and we have guys like Paul and Brown who also excel on the PK, Pinto too if what we saw was a portent of things to come.

I don’t get the hate for average, given that most folks in here are probably just about average in many ways as well. He unfortunately excels in areas of the game that are not as flashy, but he is a main contributor to what looks like an excellent PK.

I coached against this player in Minor hockey and have followed him since. He will never be a fan favourite for the fans that want a player to play physical and show show emotion. But I can tell you the Hunters drafted him in the first round of the OHL draft for what they saw hockey IQ and leadership and he played in three Men Cups. They named him captain in his fourth year. His skating style gets beat up because it is wide based with an outside drive push. Many SJ players "not fans" would love him back

He's not a liability, which is reason enough for me to be fine with him in the line up. Having said that I think he's "expendable" given what we have and if there's a hockey trade to be made, PD should try to fill a hole on D. See if he can get a team like Edmonton who needs a third line C who can slot into the second line to overpay and if not, he'd be a valid option for Seattle. I don't want him traded for the sake of moving him, aside from not losing him for nothing because I don't see him as a long term centre for this team

I agree. I don't see why some people hate on him so much. He was just another guy in the Karlsson trade who was a serviceable player. He was and is an OK third liner that that has been miscast when playing above that. He makes $3.5 million which by NHL standards is fair for what he brings. And in about 11 months he will be traded . So why worry about him.

Yes he will be traded or the Kraken select him no objection from me. Sorry to go off on my post but seeing the hate for being a soft player makes no sense - do you really think Dale Hunter would name a Captain the year (2014) they were hosting the memorial cup that was "soft" -ie Chris Tierney!

It may be acceptable to do that in some workplaces, but not in pro sports. When it's all about competition and earning your places and beating out others for the spot and maintaining that spot, you really can't rest on your laurels.

That's definitely not an attitude or culture we want to develop in the room.

I'd prefer to not have offensive black holes anywhere near our top 9 going forward. He's not terrible, but i think he's very easily replaced and with more offense.

We should protect Tierney - we only owe him $4 in 2021-22 and then he expires. We probably receive a 2-4RD puck for him vs giving away the boat load of picks/prospects it would take to move some of our other dead weight contracts.

CT can play bottom 6 C for us and bridge us to Greig, Brown, or Stutzle with Pinto and Norris secured.

If he continues to play at his current level, what do you expect his salary will be on his next deal?

Anyone think we might re-up him?

I’ve never seen a player who’s just kinda there quite like Tierney. I mean he definitely isn’t bad, but he plays hockey with the same passion that I put into my office job.

His style is frustrating for sure but perhaps necessary given his skating. Never gonna be confused for a high motor guy but he sits back and anticipates the play pretty well.

He just wants off this team. So get him off.

I understand his soft play in the beginning of the year with the team in total shambles. But with our recent play and Brown playing like godzilla, no excuse for his continued lack of effort. Gonna be a sweet 4.2 mil for us to play around with this off-season.
