He also got 40 pts (which was the 4th best forward) in 2017-18 in San Jose, a playoff team. While also leading the team in PK minutes (for forwards).

Tierney is the perfect example of a player that coaches love, but fans hate.

He's very consistent
He's very responsible two-ways
He rarely get injured
He's not overly physical
He quietly compiles points
He kills a ton of minutes

He gets way too much hate from fans.
I get where you're coming from but tend to disagree.

I think he's much better on the scoresheet than he is on the ice. He's not great or bad at any particular thing, but the end result is a guy who just doesn't influence the game much one way or the other.

He's like a Swiss army knife in a fully stocked garage. You can throw him out in any situation, but on a good team he should be your 2nd choice for EVERY situation. He needs to specialize somewhere rather than be slightly above average at everything.

He's Jesse Winchester on steroids....but generic off-label Chinese steroids that expired a while back.

So I hope they keep him, but I hope that they groom him to be a defensive specialist. He's not a great top six centre option in my opinion.

Id like to see them play him 3C with two of our best two way wingers and pump him as a shutdown player with some secondary offence at the TDL. Maybe even groom Form and White into stronger 3LW/RW rolls.

That way he doesn’t block Norris or Brown.

I don’t think many teams want to add him for $4+.... he’s not appealing enough to give away your limited cap space.

I have no idea what his trade value is, gotta be some teams in need of a 3C so hopefully there is a trade out there..

When you have Stutzle, Brown, White, Norris and Pinto in the system, you have to hope that Tierney becomes expendable soon.

He’s a fairly cerebral player which is why I think he would be miscast in the bottom six. You need intensity on those lines to pressure the opposition.

Based on what exactly?

What excites you about Tierney?

Chris has an exceptionally high hockey IQ. He’s always in great position because he can read how a play is developing so well and fast. It allows him to be more aggressive with his stick checking, keeps his PM’s down and he’s an absolute beast on the bike. Plus passer, a good skater and his shot is effective.

His hockey IQ and passing is good, I'll give you that, but he isn't a good skater and his shot is not very good.

I don't think he's bad, just very mediocre. No opposing player is ever afraid of matching up against Tierney.

It’s hard to tell with him, I don’t think he has ever had the chance at full top six minutes with actual top six wingers on both sides.
Being a number 1 is over his head but in SJ he was way down the depth charts and Ottawa has had a revolving door of lesser players bouncing around.

Never liked Tierney. Probable a nice guy but I don't like how he plays. I'd do 1 year x 4mil and then move him at the trade deadline. Definately not a player I would sign to a multi year deal. Sens really need to target a vet C this offseason. Maybe a pipe dream but Toews would be unreal.

Tierny is a good transitional player that Ottawa could use for another half yr or so, but should be moved by the deadline, hopefully, after he has increased his value to some playoff bound team.

Ottawa needs both Norris & L. Brown to have had a good off season of conditioning especially Brown & come to camp in great shape. They need to make both Tierny & Anisimov expendable this yr.

Hopefully, there is some kind of AHL season & both take off from the get go & push their team into a playoff hunt. They need to want it & go after it, both of them but especially Brown has to show that he wants it badly.

I don’t want Tierney for more than two years. One year as high as 4.5M, two years @ 4M would be fine. I think he’s a 3rd line centre by the start of the 2021 season and wouldn’t expect him to score more than 40ish points from that spot.

Bottom-6 Center who thinks he's capable of playing Top-6? No chance they should give him more than a year as a stopgap. I would've flipped him by now for a winger of similar or younger age.

Give me 3x3 and have all the "vet" contracts expire with ELCs and bridges expiring. Summer of 2023 can be our big re-evaluate who we keep and spending year, along with another 10 mil freeing up for a goalie + with Murray/Zaitsev clearing out.

But yeah, 2 years also lets us retool to be more competitive if he ends up an expensive 4th liner in a year.

Tierney is not going to sign a 3 by 3 deal

Toews would be very expensive unless Chicago paid about half his salary. He is a declining asset and probably of more value to a SC contending team that could use his veteran presence and defensive capabilities on the third line for a SC run. The Senators are not that team right now and will not be for a few years, probably 4 or 5 years away.

I tend to agree. He probably wants $4-4.5 M per season over 4 years. Perhaps give him $3.5 for 3 years, which would be about the same as C. Brown received.
