He’s more valuable to us for 1 season than anything you can get in trade.

For points in the standings, yes. However, Trading him now might result in the Senators getting a higher draft pick by finishing lower in the standings. That could be worth more than whatever we might get in a trade or whatever value Tierney might provide during the next season.

We are done tanking and tearing down, the goal is to improve and have our core players and youth be insulted better. We will get a great pick this year but purposeful tanking is in the rear window now.

Sens fans have a habit of hating good players that make below average money that play great and loving above average money that play like crap.

Underrated
I've actually found him to be worse than we're used to so far this season. Took some bad penalties and has looked a bit slower than usual.

Agree that he is underrated, though, I've been a fan since day 1. He's a smart and responsible player, and a solid playmaker too. If he had a better shot or was a bit faster or stronger he may be a legit 2nd liner.

He has good hockey IQ. He anticipates the plays well. He has good vision and passing skills. He's a bit miscast on the 3rd line. Could be a better centre for Dadonov than Stepan.

Tierny's been good, I expect though if some of these young guys work out that next season could be his last yr here, but somebody has to step up.

I’d be shocked if we don’t protect him. We can protect 7F and Norris and Stutzle don’t need protection.
Hmm

batherson tkatchuk Logan brown dadonov Nick Paul Connor brown are locks. I think.
Then yea I would think tierney leads the race of the next batch of guys at forward

I've been more of a Tierney fan than most. I like his versatility and how he's quietly put up points

We're two games in to the Pinto era

Does Tierney see his NHL career potentially slipping away? I know he's not been put in a position to post offensive numbers but even with that he's had a slow year

He needs to pick it up next year or else he migyt find himself in Europe the year after

He's just playing his way out of Ottawa. He hasnt been lining up against the tough matchups with consistency in a while. There's no excuse for his passive play recently. Once he's out of Ottawa he'll "rekindle" his game. Yup, Pinto is making him expendable but I think we could see Pinto playing AHL and us adding a more reliable C this off-season.

Tierney was our third best center last night. He surviving for now with his value on the PK.

He’s lost some of his skating speed - he’s young enough that he should find it again.

The problem with Tierney is that he epitomizes playing safe to not make mistakes.

It’s fine when you have a dumpster fire of a team and you’re just hoping to have a shift where you aren’t caved in or you just want a +0 for a shift.

It’s not fine when the team is good enough to exert its will on the opposition and he’s floating around in the high part of the offensive zone and not contributing that energy or intensity.

He just doesn’t fit in anymore with the character of the team.

He never had speed to begin with but he is a methodical style player anyway. He tries to slow the game down and use his patience to make plays.

That said, he has zero urgency the last while - he had a boost in his energy right after the TDL but it didn't last very long.

Appropriately articulated Nikes, in conclusion Tierney sucks.

He used to get the odd breakaway, drive some short handed offence etc.

He is our 7th leading F scorer and a big part of the PK. He’s scheduled to be phased out and he is in the category of serviceable but not the type of player you win with group.

Expose him and protect an expansion eligible prospect.

I've been a defender of his play in other years but he's not getting done this year.

He did but not due to his speed, but because he is a very smart player and reads plays well. I would have to think he has been below average speed since he entered the league.

I am the same as many - I thought he was undervalued and underappreciated but either he is feeling the team pass him by or the Covid year has gotten to him...something is off and he just doesn't seem to be giving the effort I expect from a pro.

I completely agree ... I think its a lack of speed since returning ... but who knows.
