I was very pleased with Neil's effort yesterday.

I mean, sure Chiasson was working hard, but if Chia's not doing anything productive offensively, I'd rather have Neil in, who is equally offensively inept, but is going around smashing guys.

Was that the last game Neil played for Ottawa? I will assume so.

Given his play yesterday, I'd reckon we see him in game 4.

Like when he floated into his own zone and failed to pick up the 3rd man on the shot that led to the scramble for the GTG? Or when he subsequently skated around like a headless chicken, eventually running into his own defenseman?

He's good for a hit or two, but he's basically playing shinny hockey.

He was definitely a presence in the first period. After that..........well, not really a positive. Hard to point a finger at him though, being gone so long.

Fair. The finger should be pointed at Cameron, who inexplicably had Neil out there in the last 5 min of a close game.

Yup, with the 4th line and 3rd pairing out you just knew what was going to happen.

8:20 TOI and 9 hits. Thought he had a decent game...bigger impact than Chiasson had.

If Ottawa scores more than 1 goal we're not talking about Neil

Montreal also put out their 4th line at the exact same time and they came up with the big goal. Hindsight is 20/20

Also really dumb to blame that goal on Neil, it was a scramble play, their D jumped up and created an odd man situation, and then there was a lucky bounce popped out the Weise, and he pulled of a solid play.

Our 4th line is not a fourth line. I think Greening-Smith-Neil could be more effective than Legwand-Hoffman right now.

That's my only beef with Neil's game last night, and it's not Neil's fault that the coach had him out there.

Aside from that, I thought Neil played well and he seemed to give the Senators extra confidence to go out and hit everything that moved in the first period.

Montreal's 4th line has dominated our 4th line, so it's not really about hindsight. Having Boro, Gryba and Neil on the ice at the same time in a close game, in the NHL, is never a good idea.

Backchecking forwards are supposed to cover D who jump up. Neil was super casual floating back into his own zone. There was nothing lucky about that goal. Montreal's 4th line completely outsmarted and outplayed Ottawa's 4th line.

Yeah when I saw our 4th line out with the Boro-Gryba pairing, I knew a Montreal goal was imminent. That combination should NEVER be on the ice in the last 5 min, not good coaching by Cameron on that.

So you're saying Neil shouldn't play game 4, but then admit the goal was Cameron's fault for having the 4th line and the 3rd pairing on at the same time... :dunno:

Chia Pet is no defensive stud either. Hoffman syndrome.

This has to be some kinda joke.

Thought Neil played well and brought more than Chiasson has thus far in the series.

Neil played well but the other two are not suited for what,s expected from 4th line players.

I blame Legwand for his giveaway below the goalline.

Hoffman needs more ice time.

taking hoffman out for greening under any circumstances does not make sense.

For a 4th line role, it makes a lot of sense. Greening can hit, forecheck and play on the boards. Hoffman is a top 6 or he's useless.

It's kind of true. There is no point of playing Hoffman unless he's in the top 9. He is a strictly offensive player who meshes well with other offensive players.

I'm not 100% sure but I think fans asking to put Colin Greening in the lineup over our top goal scorer is a sign that the apocalypse is coming

It's all about the role. I'm not saying to pull Hoffman out of the lineup, I'm saying Greening-Smith-Neil if a better 4th line than Hoffman-Legwand-Chiasson.

having said that, we should trade Hoffman as soon as possible. get something back while he has value

You know what this team needs? A true defensive shut-down pair. Like a Philipps-Volchenkov in their prime sort of thing.

Right now I think our version of that is Boro and Gryba which is just laughable. I love Boro but Gryba is awful. I would almost rather have Cowen in there over him.

I don't know why cameron insists on putting them out there in key moments in the game. The puck is always in our end for almost the entire time and they're not quick enough to get the puck out of the zone. I always feel that Montreal's about to score overtime they're out there

I think it just seems like they are out there a lot because of the fact that every shift they take is a giant dumpster fire. The Habs have a ton of speed up front, and as a result Gryba and Boro are being cruelly exposed for their lack of speed and skill. The problem is that we are already playing our top four as much as we can, and our third pairing has to play sometime...
