All i read here is “i didnt watch the game”
Coming from the person who thinks a 50 goal scorer should be scratched for a bad game here or there in the beginning of a season I question of you ever watched hockey or its just a temper tantrum. Still undecided

I agree there’s a lot of hockey to turn it around, but let’s be real, he’s been rotten.
Its 7 games and he hasn't been bad for all of them. Its a ridiculous over reaction to the same fans that would of given him away for free prior to last season.

Feelin' good on a Wednesday
I’d take his invisible act over what transpired this game.

Where to begin? So many TERRIBLE passes, weak along the boards, celebrating a goal that wasn’t even near the line yet instead of continuing to try to poke the puck home while it was still loose, shooting from the top of the circle in OT unscreened, I probably missed some. Maybe his worst game as a Ranger as far as I can remember.
Fairly good recap honestly... those are the moments that stood out to me as well... especially the stupid ass shot in OT

I mean any one of the many horrendous plays in reg should've meant his ass was STAPLED to the bench in OT... but then he's marched out there and what does he do? Horrible angle during 3 on 3... rips it wide and right out of the zone to COL

Invisible would've been a massive improvement

Kreider has noticeably been the worst player on the first line almost every shift. Not really a question. When he is rewarded with all the OT time despite his poor play, the message sent to the kids isn't a good one.
Scratching him, as a respected vet presence on the team really is not an option, but limiting his OT ice time was definitely an option with how poorly he played., GG is a player's coach and likely will only take measures after a week+ of terrible play. He's inevitably going to let CK play through it.

He scored on that shot, that one time against Varlamov. Even though that was 5 on 5 and with a 2 goal lead or something like that. That's something I expect Trouba to do in OT (remember that time Trouba dumped the puck in during OT, we have some real high IQ winners lol)

I'm not sure why anyone leans on the title 50 goal scorer for a literal one time occurrence late in a player's career...an occurrence primarily relying on pp Goalie screens and point blank stuff ins.

Most of the game is 5 v 5. Even last szn his impact there wasn't exactly great. Same for the team. The kid line was killing it 5 v 5 so naturally they got broken up. 5 v 5 most of our team plays like bottom 6ers.

It's not cks fault our gms failed to put together a dominant 5 v 5 squad and failed to develop any of our top prospects offensively to make up for the deficiencies of most of the rest of the team 5 v 5. But it doesnt deflect from the reality last szn is an aberration for ck. There's a loooot of years left on his and zibs contract

He just looks really bad out there. His passes are horrible (last night he threw 4 or 5 terrible passes way behind the target) , doesn't seem to be skating and using his speed and the next body check he throws seems like it will be his first one of the season. The team needs him to wake up!!

Here
If he's not putting pucks into the net he disappears in a lot of games.

When Chytil comes back if things are still a little stale, can we at least try this to balance out the lines a little?

This also gets Lafreniere on his correct side. I really think he hates being on the right and isnt saying anything.

Lafreniere Mika Kakko
Panarin Trocheck Goodrow
Kreider Chytil Kravstov
Vesey Carpenter Blais

Hate elevating Goodrow, but at least the 3rd and 4th are much better. That 3rd line may actually be a threat.

Lafreniere Mika Kakko
Panarin Trocheck Blais/Kravstov
Kreider Chytil Blais/Kravstov
Vesey Goodrow Reaves/Carp

Or if Blais/Kravy start to come on. Thats a much stronger middle of the ice

Everything changed when Trouba was named Captain.... jus' sayin

but seriously... I wonder what's bothering him. This is what he looks like slumping/hurt. I've never seen him pass that badly though.

Your entire post is blown up by one little fact ....Kreider led the team last year in 5v5 goals and by a pretty far margin.

The solution to me is to move him away from Zibanejad (and play him less) at 5v5.

Have always thought he would fit well next to Chytil playing a N/S game.

Obviously he is still an elite PP player and should be going nowhere in that regard.

Will this happen? Doubtful. I'd expect certainly not for months if not this entire season.
They could do that but then who do you move up? If Kreider is on Chytil's wing that opens up a hole at 1LW or 2RW and there's no one better than Kreider to fill those roles. The ideal solution is he starts playing with more urgency and pace. Be harder on pucks and move his feet. He should not be losing puck battles at the rate he is.

His 5v5 play is starting to leak onto the PP. Losing battles along the walls or just being too lazy to get going after loose pucks (or in the case of yesterday's game, taking dumb ass shots and not being able to complete the easiest of passes.) He shouldn't lose his spot there as hes at least still a presence out there that needs to be accounted for, but its something to keep an eye on.

Hes touching the puck way too much 5v5 though. When he has terribly off nights its going to look like it did last night but thats been a thing all season. He shouldn't be carrying the puck or trying to make plays through the NZ as much as he has been.

I think he'll come around... Last night was the worst game I can remember Kreider playing tbh. He's not am elite passer by any stretch, but he couldn't make a pass within two feet of his teammate last night. Sometimes players slump bad, have to hope it's just a moment, and if there's one player who takes his own play seriously enough to correct it it's Chris. Jmho

It’s taken me some time to come around to this, but if we are going to relatively evenly distribute the ES ice time, Kreider should be on the third line if for nothing else just his play style. He does not have the skill/sense to pass the puck around with Zib. He just doesn’t.

That doesn’t change the fact that he’s the elite of the elite in front of the net on the PP.

Laf-Zib-Kakko
Panarin-Trocheck-VK
Kreider-Chytil-Blais
Whatever

I hesitate to “promote” VK, but he needs to play with skill players on a line where he’s not expected to grind (if he’s going to play at all). Let that third line just skate people into the ground with no expectation that they’ll pass the puck laterally at all. Put both Laf and Zib in positions to succeed with a dominant 1C and let them sink or swim.

So wait...the idea that it was a one time occurrence is blown up by the one time occurrence? Makes sense lol.

I literally said neither him or the team was great 5 v 5. The fact he scored the most on the team 5 v 5 would match that comment...he was the best/highest goal scorer on a team where no one's overall 5 v 5 game was really all that great.....thats being the best of the worst possibly. Especially when fsctoring in line time distribution and quality of linemates. Not to mention, there's more to hockey than goal scoring too.

This isn't a new issue, everyone knows we weren't the strongest when even

The organization perfectly dangled the carrot of becoming captain in front of him last season and it worked to the tune of 52 goals.

If Vegas had odds on who would be named Rangers captain he would have been the betting favorite at the end of last season. Longest tenured Ranger, 52 goals, and to top it off he really sealed the deal by basically crying with Mika after we were eliminated from the playoffs. If you watch any of his interviews from last season he looked like a college acting student trying out for the role of "generic NHL captain." He had every single hockey captain trope perfectly ready to go for every situation. He probably kept index cards in his helmet with the perfect generic hockey captain responses to give after wins, losses and every other scenario.

Then Gallant named some guy who has been here for about ten minutes (relatively) as captain and now Kreider has been reduced to giving phony interviews saying how much he loves "Troubs" and how perfect Troubs is and what a great decision that was. In reality Kreider just goes home, sits on his couch watching his highlights from last year while wearing a Kreider jersey he bought custom from Modell's with a "C" on the front and listening to emo music.

This guy isn't doing anything for us this season.

IMHO Trouba was the favorite and the most logical decision. Kreider is and has never been that big of a leader ÌMO. He goes missing for looooooooooooooooooong stretches as well. Trouba is much more vocal and noticeable on the ice. He (Trouba) feels more like a natural leader.

I feel like if he wanted the C he prob could have gotten it. But anyway it's prob for the best. Kreider's so extra sometimes (throwing Mika's iPad, Ronaldo celly, annoying looking goatee-screaming-face). Guy's a diva and it's no wonder he goes missing for long stretches.

I never found his post-game interviews genuine either, something about the way he talks/emotes.

He will never sniff even 30 goals again. Trade this sociopath to the first bidder and be done with it.

How about Kreider with Chytil and Blais? I know it won’t happen and it’s sacrilegious to suggest breaking up ‘Mika and Chris forever’. But I think this lineup could work.
Laf-Mika-Kakko
Panarin-Trocheck-Kravtsov
Kreider-Chytil-Blais
Goodrow-Carpenter-Reaves-Vesey

Kreider would retain his spot in front of the net on the power play so his minutes wouldn’t be impacted heavily.

Kreider has always been painfully inconsistent and this season is exactly that. Painful and inconsistent. He remains an infuriating player to watch play.

I’d like to see him get some time away from Kappo. Kappo is not a shoot first player and Kreider needs that type of guy in his line. Kreider is a straight line skater who needs to see the puck go towards the net so he can just go there and burry the puck. He’s not a skilled player and sadly the Rangers have strayed into a skill fest type game.

That being said, his effort is horrendous and if he sore over not being named captain perhaps he should leave his ego at the door.

Didn’t he put his NYC apartment on the market? Does he think he’s getting traded with Trouba named captain?
