On top of all these single season milestones for Kreider, he is closing in on a NYR career milestone as well. If Kreider manages to get to 52 goals this season, he will enter the top 10 in franchise history for goals in a career.

Warts and all, he's going to be one of the most successful Rangers players in their franchise history.

I assume you meant career goals as a Ranger.

Kreider is at 219. Bill Cook had 228, so 9 more goals and Kreider will be tied for 10th most in Rangers history.

Rod Gilbert has the most goals at 407. Kreider needs 189 goals to pass him, which is a tall order. If he maintains his current pace, he should get another 11-12 goals this year. He would then need to average 35-36 goals per year over the next 5 years, or 25-26 over the next 7 years. In 7 years, he will be 38 years old, so it's not crazy to think he could still be playing for the Rangers then, but a lot will depend on how he is playing and our cap situation. If he produces next year anything close to this year, then the odds go up.

The team definitely saw this season coming.
I couldn't believe people wanted to dump him. I was shocked. I said in the offseason that every team in the league wants a power foward with speed that basically scores 30 goals (per 82) every season. That is very hard to find. It was pointed out that he didn't score 30. Nobody said 50 but I did say I could see 40.

Some people still want to trade him now. :dunno:

I don't think that's accurate. Edge had mentioned that there might be conversations in that direction this summer, but I don't think anyone suggested that they actually wanted to move him.

I can't imagine the Rangers will trade him within the next 2 years. Once his NMC becomes an NTC, all bets are off. And it remains to be seen if he can come close to duplicating this performance next season.

I think for next season, the plan is to re-sign Copp, and let him and Chytil work it out between them as to who is 2C and 3C. We should have enough cap space to re-sign Copp without needing to move any of our big contracts. Maybe we'll need to move Nemeth, but we'll see.

There is no optimization in the real world. This extends to basically every aspect of life. There are “by the book” approaches to most things that theoretically lead to optimal results, but life in general is an insanely complex system that cannot be modeled perfectly. Sports are just a subset of that.

Moving Kreider is the theoretical optimal move. Maximize the “asset”. I get where those people are coming from.

The real world is different. Just is.

We had people putting him on the third line earlier this season when he was scoring on a 50 goal pace.
I just addressed this in the roster building thread. People were penciling him in on the 3rd line before the season started based on his body of work to date, the desire to get Laf into the top 6, and the hopes for a more balanced lineup.

If you can find one person who has suggested dropping him to the 3rd line at any point from Nov 1st on, then I'll stand corrected.

It was a few people here, and other social media. People worry about the future too much, the team is competing now, and bringing up a potential trade years from now just doesn’t make sense to me. Guy is having a remarkable career season, and people are worried about trading him down the road, come on man. That is my point, when we come to that bridge we’ll worry about crossing it.

There definitely was someone but I won't be able to find his post(s). His rationale was that Kreider was scoring most of his goals on the Power Play.

40 goals with Gallant.

Why stop there?

Kreider will finally win the Calder, with Gallant's tutelage.

3 years from now, we will be here, talking about Kreider and some people will still hold out hope he magically "puts it together" and finally becomes a 30 goal scorer under the new coach who replaces Galant...

Kreider has the ability to be a 40 goal scorer but unfortunately he decides every year to take shifts and games off

Since when? This is just another in a long line of weird Chris Kreider narratives that completely skews the reality of the situation.

The guy’s scored .5GPG once since high school and he has the ability to be a 40 goal scorer?

yup, and when he retires the same people will propose retiring his jersey to hang from the rafters.

he really doesn't. he's fast and has a good shot. he doesn't have the offensive instincts or hands in tight to be any better.
