Too often people focus on what a player is not, instead of what he is.

The biggest knock on Kreider is he’s not a superstar

.
BOOM! Exactly. We have a bunch of fans who still can’t get over the fact that he didn’t meet their superstar expectations. From what I remember nobody was expecting him to be a superstar. We were all excited for him but he was never suppose to be a superstar. I mean he was the 19th overall pick not the top pick in the draft. Like I mentioned in an earlier post he has far more positive attributes than negative ones. Most players in the nhl are streaky players

This is what defenders feel like when he's skating and the puck gets behind them...

Kreider is the Boogey Man.

He’s never been suspended once in his career and has only been fined (2) times.
The point is the same though, he's a sensitive guy and doesn't want to hurt ppl, after his fines for being big, strong, and fast earlier in his career the team likely spoke to him about taking penalties hurting the team, and he really started letting up physically. He was younger and had less veteran credibility and presence, so hopefully GG doesn't try to reign him in. Either way, hopefully he keeps being a bull in the ozone on the forecheck and stays healthy.

He gets a lot of shit for a guy that scores 25 goals and 50-55 points every year, that's for damn sure. He potted 20 last year in 50 games. I don't care if they were 5 on 5 or on the PP. They still went in the back of the net.

Yeah, but what about the repercussions for when he was tripped by Emelin literally murdered Carey Price? A total failure by the NHL's department of player safety!

All of this is true. He even shied away from the net (temporarily, thankfully) after Prust ran with the fake news story of him running Carey Price in the 2014 Conference Final.

Maybe so, but unfortunately for Kravtsov who expected a spot to be handed to him, Kreider is the proven veteran winger. Who now has 4 goals in 6 games. Almost had at least 2 more goals.
He's been getting a TON of chances too!! If he keeps playing like this most nights he'll get a ton of goals! I'm so excited for this season and this team.

Exactly. To expect a player to "show up" for all 82 games is expecting superstar status out of said player. Not realistic.

it’s not about showing up for 82.

it’s about not disappearing for 15-20 in a row. I don’t really even care about the point production, that is going to be what it normally is at the end of the season. He could have not scored yesterday and he would have still had a great game, as was the case against Nashville and Toronto.

He and Hunt have been the epitome of what I would like to see more of from this group as a whole - disruptive, usefully abrasive and all around uncomfortable to play against. We haven’t really gotten enough of it collectively (Blais a bit, but not to the extent that we’ve seen it out of the aforementioned duo.)

Point being, there is no reason that can’t (or shouldn’t) be a staple in his game. Not for 82 because everyone has off nights, but it should be there more often than not.

Even if he ran Price, he's done that probably twice in a decade long career (when he hurt Price they gave an example of him also doing it to Fleury, I can't remember any other time) and somehow he got the rep of a goalie predator or something. Dude's big and fast and plays in the crease. In 10 or so seasons he might hurt a goalie. But it was the Habs and the ECF so now he's goalie killer.

That's completely fair and I agree! He seems fired up this season and I credit the new coach and the additions over the summer. This is more a Kreider-like style team now so he's in his element not playing on a team full of p***yes.

That tired old narrative is being brought up again. :ha: Guaranteed all of those idiots saying this crap would love to have him on their team. Isnt' that what we have to hear after we complain about Tom Wilson. It makes me gag.

Lol, I know. Kreider has never been a dirty player, but that Price incident set all of Canada ablaze and the reputation has stuck ever since. His "worst" play was probably the Brodin incident, and even then, Brodin stopped like 10 feet away from the boards like an idiot and put himself in the most vulnerable position.

Kreider has been known to be streaky. As long as he is not going through long stretches of not contributing then it’s fine. He is good for 20 plus goals and 50 points a season. If he does stuff like last game with being physical then it’s even more of a plus. He didn’t get an assist on the GW goal but he caused the turnover with his forecheck. Him crashing the net has been critical in the Rangers winning their games so far this season.

You could see on the previous whistle he was going at it verbally with Merzlikins then rubbed it in his face after the goal. Love it. Not quite the Buch troll job but still good
