he's gonna get suspended for that hit at the end of the game and then go back to not hitting

he was a wrecking ball when he first came into the league until he got suspended a few times and then softened up on the hits

How do you know that he’s getting suspended?

Don’t want kreider to be captain. Keep him with the A. Seems to be well respected/liked. No reason to give him added pressure. Plus when he goes into his scoring lulls, the press would be hounding him.
He’s looks focused this year. If Gallant can keep him motivated, kreider is an amazing weapon, even if he only puts up his usual numbers, if he’s using his speed and causing chaos in front of the net, good things are going to happen.
He only played about 5-6 games like this last season.
Gallant has him hungry

I wish fans would focus on the benefit Kreider provides to the team instead of harping on “He never scores 30-35 goals and he doesn’t hit enough”. I’ve always felt fans set unrealistic expectations for him since the 2012 playoffs. They wanted him to be a consistent 35-40 goal player who smashes everyone in site and anything less is a disappointment in their eyes which I feel is a bit unfair. I mean he’s been a top 6 player for most of his career, good playoff performer when we’re there, and one of the best in front of the net. He is also is physical despite what some say. He’s come close to 30 goals multiple times but I feel has had some bad luck with untimely injuries just when he is about to get there. Anyway for a 19th overall pick I think he had been a success

I really don't think that many posters appreciate what we have in Kreider.

He is one of the best first round draft picks we have ever made. When someone is drafted at #19 and has had the career he has had, you would take that every time.

He has been a fine player, a leader, an example to younger players, a credit to the franchise for almost 10 years. In a career spanning different coaches and coaching philosophies, he has been there, adapted and succeeded.

He has been a unique player in terms of his skills and abilities. When other teams game plan for the Rangers, you can be sure part of that discussion is how to account for him.

Yes, he might never score 40 goals or even 30 but maybe those expectations were just oversized.

Yes, he will go into maddening scoring slumps but personally, I never blame that on a lack of effort or even intensity. I tend to believe that, due to his style of play he is often hurt and simply banged up more than we can ever know. That's another thing about Kreider: he plays hurt and never complains. Streaks are hard to understand and quantify. If we could understand them, batters in baseball would never experience them, but they do. Listen to Keith Hernandez on SNY talk about streaks sometimes. Nobody understands them. It is the same with streaky scorers: it's a psychological thing, it's a mental thing, it's a circumstantial thing, it's a physical thing. With CK, I do tend to think it's sometimes a mental thing: we all know who smart he is, sometimes he seems to overthink things and get lost in his own head.

Often, when player have been here for a long time and have had a degree of success, I stop being overly critical and accept them as they are and for what they bring to the team. That is the case for me with CK. He has been a fine, fine player for a long time, a consummate Ranger, this generation's "Mr. Ranger."

Yes, there is his large contract. But my feeling is "good for him." As a fan I want players on my team to succeed and cash in on a career that is finite in length and could end at any time. Hopefully, he will continue to perform at a high level for the majority of his contract. I think he was already lost a bit of footspeed but has compensated for that by becoming one of the league's best on the power play.

In a world of disappointing draft picks, underachievers, and guys who are only with us for a short period of time, CK has been, and is, a really fine Ranger for a long time. Perfect? Far from it but I think we need to accept him for what he is, appreciate him for what he is and value his time with our team.

Kreider is another one of those players who other teams hate but would love to have him on their team.

Totally agree. If that doesn't happen though, something has been switched in Kreids.

As others pointed out, new rough teammates rubbing off and coach Gallant.
He's thriving under this new coach. I had a feeling this would happen. Kreider kept saying last year or before Gallant that the team was "walking on eggshells", so that gives a little insight on his attitude under Quinn.

Quinn being a rookie coach in the NHL surely led to many useless and contra-productive pressure on the team.

The low-riskyness of the game we played, was Q trying his best to make a good impression.

I think having physical guys in the lineup like Reaves, Hunt and Blais is rubbing off on him. Or Gallant putting a bigger emphasis on forechecking. Either way it's been great.
Correct, that type of play is contagious. Especially when you see your team mates laying it all out for you. You don’t want to let them down or disappoint them

A lot of it is mental. He has seen a sports psychologist in the past. He’s a fierce competitor and when things go bad he’s extremely hard on himself. That’s a big reason why I don’t want to give him the added pressure of the captaincy.
He for sure plays injured too. A lot of players do. Kreids is more noticeable when he’s coasting because he had the size/speed/ physical skill to absolutely dominate at least 10 min of each game.
So when he’s not active, skating hard, getting 1-2 breakaways a game ( whether he scores or not), using his speed/big body to impose his will, etc he sticks out like a sore thumb.
He’s much like trouba in that regard. When he makes mistakes; they are Glaring.
But overall Kreids has been a good ranger. That’s why they resigned him. If Gallant can keep up his intensity/consistency, he a tremendous asset
