I'm in the 6x6 camp.

I could even be persuaded to do just north of $6 million if we were that close.

Very little interest in a 7 in either column.

I'm less interested in the full NMC.

Want it for 3 years? sure

Limited no trade after that? Lets do it.

NMC throughout? No thanks. I do not want another Staal situation (albeit on a less serious scale. I can't imagine Kreider being as awful as Staal is now at any point during his next contract.)

Kakko will be better than nearly a 30 goal, 50+ point player by the time he is 21 years old? At least you are staying within the bounds of reality.
With the amount of potential he has it’s really not that far fetched. Probably a better chance of that than Kreider being here still in 2 weeks.

Not sure why you don’t think he can go from a 30 point scorer this season, to a 40 point scorer his second season then to a 50 point season his 3rd year. The bounds of reality? Lose the stupid comments for a day will ya?

This has nothing to do with potential and everything to do with probabilities and time lines. Yes,I expect Kakko to be better. No, I do not expect it to be in a season where he doesn’t turn 21 until mid February.

Expecting 10 point jumps in these ridiculously early years is simply setting yourself up for disappointment. Thinking that he is a 30 goal, 55-60 point player by his third year is about as unrealistic as it was to expect 50 points this year. At least to me.

Paying attention to boundaries of reality is not stupid. Creating fairly unrealistic expectations as if you are playing EA franchise mode and just switched a season to easy level is.

Then I highly disagree. 10 point jumps the next 2 years i think is very probable. Will he score 80 points his 3rd season? No, that is what i’d consider far fetched. But playing on the 1st or 2nd line in his third NHL season and putting up 20-25 more points than he does this season is very probable, especially as he gets stronger and faster over 2 offseasons.

Also, Kravtsov can step right and become the team's 2nd line LW next season.

At this point, I'd say let's do an informal poll of everyone and see where people are at.

The offer for Kreider is 7x7. Not 6x5, or 6x6, or 6x7.

It's $6.75-$7M for 7 years, with a NMC. That's what his camp wants.

Do you sign the deal, yes or no?
Unless you can convince me that you'll be able to bring a 1st line winger for next season, I would 100% sign him to that contract.

It's the exact same contract as Evander Kane who I think is pretty much equal to Kreider.

If he hits open market, I think he can get Jeff Skinner money - so it is important to secure his contract before it reaches that point. The Islanders are gonna throw a lot of money at him or Hall on July 1st.

Naturally. Should we also start to pencil in Morgan Barron?

I know you are kidding but some of the expectations that people are thinking is about as realistic as competing for the Cup next year

In the past few days I've seen posts saying Kravtsov can play in the top 6 next year. It's insane. M0rgan Barron? He will make Zib expendable by Thanksgiving.

Trade him...he will be the second coming of DB Cooper once he signs . Plus anybody leaving 15 million on the table is likely a player that none of us will ever figure out . Many of us lament about him now when he goes missing in games . Give our kids his ice and somebody will step up . KK will be better next season without a doubt IMO and Chytil with more ice the same . We will still be a playoff club without CK next season . Think positive ...we will get past it .

I don't know---I kind of have the thought pattern that money doesn't necessarily buy happiness. If there was a place I'd rather be I think I'd take less to be there. One way or the other he's going to retire a multi-millionaire.

It is hard though, we might be talking about 8 figures, not 8 grand.

That's a lot of money to hypothetically walk away from, to stay in a place that isn't cost of living or tax friendly.

He could end up like Brad Richards and just happen to be a UFA at the right time and get WELL paid for it . I'll be honest...I'll miss the 2020 CK but not the one that was here before that for 50 Million moving forward .

I agree...but I also think he will find a place he will like for almost what he could get from a club that he might not like . He will have multiple suitors waving cash at him . There will be one that appeases him and reward him at the same time .

8 figures over the term of the contract?--not over one year though.

Hard? By the time he retires in his mid to late 30's he's going have made more money than 99% + of the rest of the population whether or not he signs a huge deal or a somewhat less deal. I would think he's already set up for the rest of his life if he had to retire tomorrow. I'm not saying what he should do---just saying it doesn't have to be his biggest consideration.

That might be true too. He grew up a Bruins fan--so Boston might be a team he'd like to play for. Then again Boston might not have the cap space for him.

Absolutely agree. You can tell he is finally starting to figure out the NHL game and will only get better with age and off season conditioning. I think your expectations are totally realistic.

It doesn’t.

I just think it’s much, much easier to take that stance when we’re not the one leaving $13 million on the table.

So in that regard, I can’t blame him if it is his biggest consideration — or at least one of them.

at least the cap will be at $175 million so we can resign them all right?

although he might not receive your Valentine’s card, Barron is pretty good.

His value has never been this high. If the Rangers don't take advantage that is dumb. Everyone wants to miss the playoffs because we aren't ready and need a high pick so why keep him? He's not reproducing this again we all know it and we can't afford to have him crap the bed in a few years.
Panarin and Zib will always find a way to score and our D also get a lot of points.
Plus with Shesterkin we only need 2-3 goals lol.

He's not producing that unusually this year. He's got .74ppg this year. He had .66, .64 and .71 the three years prior. His value was absolutely higher when he had more term and was producing similarly.

The team is very likely missing the playoffs with or without him.

Has Mika produced well with crappy wingers? I don't recall him being in that situation much but I could very well be forgetting some stretch.

He can retire TODAY and be that. But I do agree and was thinking that, and trying to come up with a comparable.
At the end of the day, will any paltry 7-10 extra million be satisfying enough, and COVER being miserable playing for another team when NY is your home and missing all of the friends you have made? Someday playing AGAINST Mika and the Breadman?

This IS a business, make no mistake. But, if the Rangers wanted to play equivalent HARDBALL (if indeed, that is what Kreids camp is doing) then if I am the Rangers, I trade him to a crappy team or somewhere where he would be miserable for a half a season. Go fetch your money, screw you.
Hank and others got theirs.......and in the end, it was the team that got screwed. Finally, maybe finally this organization will be less in LOVE with players they need to break ties with. (See Zucch and Hayes)
Mind you, I AM a fan of that goal scoring, monster faced player.
