6 x 6 Full NMC! He'll age fine, freak athlete and when the Rangers are competing he'll likely be 2nd/3rd liner who will be one hell of a depth piece. If he doesn't want it, he doesn't want to be a Ranger enough. C'mon Kreids! Do it!

Fast can walk this off-season. It's insane that he played a top 6 role here for so long. He's 4th line material.
Buy-out Staal.
Trade Smith somehow, add a pick. Looking at you Detroit and SJ.
Trade Georgiev

Resign ADA 4.5m x 2, Lemieux 1.25m x 2, PDG 800k x 1, Kreider 6m x 6 and Strome 5m x 2.

Just did this on armchair GM and had 3.5 Mil left to figure out who needs more.

Bread - Strome - Kakko
Kreider - Zib - Buch
Lemieux - Chytil - Kravtsov
Howden - Andersson - PDG

Skjei - Trouba
Lindgren - ADA
Hajek - Fox

Hank is very likely to be bought out this summer. There's only one more year left on his contract so the BO penalty won't be bad.

I’m very confused at what Hank is thinking if he knows he’s going to be bought out and wants to extend his career elsewhere yet doesn’t waive his NTC now. What’s the point? Sit and watch for a few months rather than compete for the Cup this year?

The ROR trade was bad for them, yet I was more talking about their whole "rebuild" They had some vets, they had some youngish guys who were in the league for a long time, it was not bare earth, and neither would it be for the Rangers if they did move Kreider.

They'd actually have more than Buffalo with Panarin, Zbad, Trouba, Skjei they may keep Strome/Fast, Buch will be in his 5th year, DeAngelo, both youngish goalies are 24 going on 25. Staal, Smith, Lundqvist is they are still there.

Rangers becoming Buffalo in my opinion is a terrible comparison being mixed in with scare tactic overtones.

Well I'm just saying that Buffalo has been down so long that they have losing in their blood. It's become part of their culture almost and you can very often see displays of frustration from their best player Eichel. Veteran leadership is important to build a winning culture which isn't to say all veterans are leaders. It doesn't work necessarily work that way. For one thing the player has to be important as a player on the ice and guys like Moulson (who declined hard for them), Gionta and McGinn don't really qualify.....and as far as Evander Kane he's not the most stable or loved personality wherever he goes. O'Reilly was a great one though. Mistake getting rid of him.

Like I said I understand saying no if Kreider wants a huge deal. But if he is willing to take a little less than he should stay. Whether some want to admit it or not he is very tough to replace and getting late first and a B level prospect sure as hell wont replace him lol

I give come credence to Buffalo having trouble turning it around being on their continual losing, yet to me it sure seems like less than great management mixed in with a difficult market more than anything else.

When I look at some other questionable markets, some do better than others because they seem to realize their predicament and take steps towards knowing they are not a preferred destination, whereas others seem to be trying to fight against that.

Some teams seem to have invested in finding, and found some level of success beyond their super early 1st round picks. Others seem to be really failing in that regard and/or are willing to trade those prospects away for the next thing they think will want to play for them to try to fix their situation quicker.

Teams in poor markets have to be willing to play the long game. Teams in good markets would also be well served by playing that same long game, their advantage is being able to eventually trade some of that long game stuff away for someone(s) who will probably be happier by moving to that market.

To be a Ranger.

Got some sad news for you. Leaving 10's of million of dollars on the table to take a discount for your original team is rarely a real thing. In Kreider's case, I can't help but think it'd be done already if he was married to the idea of being a Ranger.

They just started talking. Plenty wiggle room.

That might be true too. He grew up a Bruins fan--so Boston might be a team he'd like to play for. Then again Boston might not have the cap space for him.
I think for the asking price the team that is acquiring him will want to negotiate a new deal before they pull the trigger . Some team is going to have the assets and the cap to pull it off . That type of deal is in all likelihood in the best interest of the Rangers and the team getting him....lessens the sting if they fail to win a cup somewhat . I really hope this is the type of deal we see . Next question is who has both the assets and the Cap and is not on his limited list that does not require him to waive for ?

A better question is: who here would do that?

Perhaps fans who don't fully grasp how much money that is, and don't have an agent chirping in their ear about how nothing is guaranteed in professional sports so maximizing earnings now is paramount.

The cost of living in NY is a sub-text to this and somewhat a matter of personal opinion. I've traveled to a lot of other cities for work and my general feeling is you get what you pay for in terms of entertainment, amenities, and services provided. Maybe he's fine going to a boring city to save some tax $$$'s.

But maximizing the years and dollars for this UFA contract? That's priority #1 in nearly all of these situations. Thinking he'll take 4-5 years just because he likes the Rangers is a little beyond wishful thinking.

I think you m

I think you mean cost of living...?

I don't see Kreider as a big socialite, but maybe I'm wrong. It's been confirmed he likes the organization, but I seriously doubt the endless amenities provided here matter that much to him (at the least, it's not worth $15 mil to him). Not to mention you can get a lot of the same stuff elsewhere without having to breath in all the pollution (if you don't think NY stinks take a vacation to another city and come back) and fight for every inch of space.

Lest we also not forget that he can use part of said $15 million to pay for a luxury condo in the city after he retires if he really likes it here so much.

As much as I want to see him stay, I agree. And his agent would be failing him if he did not make him see that picture.

This is really his only shot to maximize the financial value of what he's worked towards his whole life. To throw that opportunity away to stay with the organization wouldn't be smart. Most players don't have a revenue stream after they're done with their careers. $15million, even after earning millions prior, is still a lifechanging amount of money.

I don't think the cost of living factors into it when we're talking about salaries we're talking about.

I think it comes down to mentality that some have here. I'm a Ranger fan, so any Ranger should take less to stay a Ranger. And when you're no longer useful, request a trade or retire.

$15 million ...

so let him sign that and not be a fit on that team. it usually happens with those large contracts (even Panarin took less money etc).. leave less to be on a team that he knows and has chemistry with and is a leader, id take that over extra bucks as well as he should although maybe that health scare made him evaluate that decision
