Agreed. I mean if Gorton really feels he can get Kreider back this summer for a good deal then getting assets would be great. But if he plans on just getting rid of him nothing we get back is really gonna compare to what he brings. I mean a very late first rounder and a decent prospect doesn’t seem that goodI just think if you have a guy that's so important to the lineup and the team, you try and find a way to keep him. Within reason. As others have said a late first round pick and bottom 6 prospect is just a blah return for him. And they for sure take a step back next season. With all this said, I still think he'll get traded in the next three weeks
.
I think that it has and will continue to be up to Kreider. If he wants market level salary and go where ever, he is gone. If he wants to continue to play for the franchise he always has and continue to be a leader on the other side of the rebuild, then his contract has to fit into Gorton's parameters.Agreed. Probably not. But those are two different situations. Kreider is and has been a part of the core and a leader. ADA has been imported recently. Kreider is a UFA and ADA is an RFA. Krieder has a say and ADA does not really have as much as he cannot go anywhere and fate can be decided on market comps. Now, considering the Rangers just handed out $20 million to two players before they ever donned a Rangers uniform, I'm not sure Kreider and ADA are necessarily going to do them too many favors.
But, now we find out.
ESPN posted some trade deadline predictions and they had Kreider going to Boston for a 1st, Bjork, and another conditional pick.
They also had Georgie for LeBanc in a 1 for 1 deal lol. I think the Kreider one is more likely but man, I’d kind of be let down with that .
Not unlike what the Patriots have been doing for all these years. Granted, the latent success of the two franchises has been completely different. His agent is taking to Gorton. Wasn’t before so let’s see if Kreider truly wants to remain a NY Ranger. He needs to get paid but also needs to compromise to help this team become competitive in the near future.
Agreed. I think Kreider would take less but at the same time it’s not fair to lowball him either I think between 6-6.5 for 6 years is fair and doable. I’ve always been of the belief that Kreider won’t break down like others. He keeps himself in great shape, is smart about doing it, and is just a physical specimenHis agent is taking to Gorton. yeah, he's definitely vital to our team but ugghh that contractwhile also creates new problems of not having a physical RD that can play the tough minutes and kill penalties...
Zucc was different. He was a few years older and although I loved Zucc you can replace him easier than Kreider. I do think its possible Kteuder takes less because he loves it here and probably wants to stay on the East Coast. Hey if Gorton could find a way to trade then resign him then that would be great. But if we can reach a fair agreement the next couple weeks I will be happyHmm, Chris knows this is his likely his one and only big payday so does he:
Take 6.5 for 6 years with the Rangers
Or 7.5M for 7 years on the market.
So is he going to lose out on 12+ million dollars to stay with the Rangers? Not a change and neither would anyone here. Bye Chris.
And cool IF he does love it here so much, then after we trade him for parts to continue help the rebuild, he can elect to sign with us again in July. Just like Zucc did
.
Kreider says he loves being a Ranger and there are reports he doesn’t want to play anywhere else. I’m willing to give him the opportunity, but I need him to help us out.
If he can make that happen, then I am willing to give him the option to veto any move that would put him somewhere else.
. I don’t think players think like that nor should they. If they did trade Kreider then resign him great but I doubt it’s something they would ever talk about or agree tooIf that's the case and he wants to be here long term, he should be invested in the long term implications on this roster. I would think that if he's set on staying in New York, he should want the quality of the roster/prospect pool to improve not only for the Rangers benefit but his own. Not only this, but getting a chance to take a run at the cup in his prime has got to have some appeal for him, unless he's of like mind with Hank in that he wants to play his entire career here.
I'd imagine it's considered tampering to come to an agreement that they will resign him in the offseason after they trade him at the deadline, but if the mutual interest is actually there a "hint hint wink wink" should suffice.
I think the problem is that some fans had these crazy expectations for him. He was picked 19th overall and has been a top 6 player basically his whole career and has been a very good playoff performer. So he had been a big success in my view.Kreider hasn’t been able to “put it altogether” in NY. Wouldn’t be surprised he breaks out like Kovalev did when he leaves. Kreider with a top top center could do that. He’s a nice piece to have but not at the rumored 6-7.5 mill per.

I think Kreider has become a better overall player. His first couple years he was horrible defensively but had actually become a much better defender as the years progressed. I also think he is a very underrated passer even though that’s not his gameThese people are crazy and just parrot twitter talking points. He's been a tremendous success. Since the 2014/15 season he's 16th highest goal scorer at LW.

Maybe the player doesn't think of that, but the agent should be keenly aware of the situation, if not made aware by the GM in contract negotiation.
ThisA strategy that basically never ever happens in this league is not a great strategy.

haha okFine by me. I don't see him as a core piece so if the options are trade him OR sign him long term I take the trade 10/10 times in a cap world
People clamoring for him to be resigned after he goes on this hot streak he's been on have blinders on for all the times he disappears for stretches
.
