TSN's Chris Johnston said on his podcast that some believe that the Leafs are the front runner for Ben Chiarot, he said they have been in on him from the start.

As a Leaf fan Ben Chiarot himself is not a move I'm against. He would make the Leafs better.

But I know I'm likely to hate the cost because I don't think he's worth a 1st but I think he will get it.
Your trade:

Toronto 2022 1st (top 10 protected) + dumping Nick Ritchie for

Chairot at 50% + a 4th rounder (via Tampa).

The price hugues asked is a 1st and a 3rd. Dont think they gonna get more than what he asking for...

Niemela and 2nd pick = caufield or guhle + 2nd

Knies + 1st pick = farrell+ 1st

just be serious...

Niemela is not the same caliber of prospect as Ghule and Caufield come on now.... More like Harris or Struble to be fair.

I think it was pretty clear the Leafs were getting physically dominated in that series. I think those clips of Nylander refusing to go into a corner and Marner's delay of game penalty is proof they were a little jumpy by the end of it.

Edit: Toffoli indicated as much.

Toffoli had 'no doubt' Canadiens would beat Leafs once Muzzin got injured

Gotta have grit.

Sure, you need grit.

Doesn’t mean you need to spend a premium on someone like Chiarot who brings grit but is also stupid and reckless.

Leafs could not score goals. Where they struggled was imposing their will at the opponent’s end. Chiarot isn’t bringing the offence.

Edit: Toffoli's words were "Once we knew Muzzin was out we all knew we were going to win the series"

Gotta have grit.

they lost because of 1 goal from Matthews Marner and Tavares combined (scared to go in the corner Nylander scored 5 goals and 8 points in the series)

I have no idea why people think Ben Chiarot is going to help with any of that.

sorry, but Leafs have very little in the way of clearing out the front of the net - their scoring issues is another matter as their forwards are scared of physical contact

5th in goals against.

as for your second part, what is Ben Chiarot going to do about that exactly? I'm curious.

And I'm just saying Ben Chiarot, who played more minutes that series than any other skater on the Habs, might have had something to do with your stars not scoring.

I realize it's easy to put it all on Price, and he was outstanding, but I think the Leafs were battered and bruised by the end and that didn't help either.

Not arguing about his value, it will be what it will be.

That might actually work, IMO. And would need to be evaluated, from a Habs POV, as part of the Toffoli trade, since Montreal wouldn't add 2.5M if Toffoli hadn't been shipped out.

I rated Niemela same as a 1st and the 2nd is 3 yrs from now and Leaf’s get a bunch of cap relief too so that is worth something vs a 3rd this year.

I noticed Carey Price play at a Vezina level. Chiarot, not at all.

Funny, there was an entire fan section crying that Chiarot had somehow intentionally taken out Tavares the way I remember it…

Chiarot is your best bet to help your team because

A - You’re a pretty soft team to play against, more so on the back end. After Muzzin there’s not much snarl, and you’ll need it when the officials put the whistles away.

B - He’s affordable. You guys don’t have much cap space - certainly not enough to go big game hunting - unless you’re planning to give up significant futures.

I prefer not helping the Leafs with anything, but don’t act like he wouldn’t help your blueline or that he’s spare parts. There’s a reason half a dozen teams have shown interest.

Its not because hes not a 1st round pick than hes not the same caliber.

Niemela just dominated sm- liiga at 19 and get 29 points ( 2nd amount all d) in 40

If you dont already know sm liiga >>>> WHL

he was best d in iihf last season

His progression last 2 season was really high

I love Dubas but if he trades a 1st or a top prospect for this guy its time to say goodbye..he is not a player making our team better wtf
