Rumor: Chris Johnston: Some believe Toronto is the front runner for Ben Chiarot.

as mentioned many times if David f***ing savard is worth a 1st, 3rd AND 4th, Chiarot, who is better offensively and defensively, should return a 1st and B prospect.
hughes has already said he prefers prospects. Habs have 12 picks this summer

Funny, there was an entire fan section crying that Chiarot had somehow intentionally taken out Tavares the way I remember it…

Chiarot is your best bet to help your team because

A - You’re a pretty soft team to play against, more so on the back end. After Muzzin there’s not much snarl, and you’ll need it when the officials put the whistles away.

B - He’s affordable. You guys don’t have much cap space - certainly not enough to go big game hunting - unless you’re planning to give up significant futures.

I prefer not helping the Leafs with anything, but don’t act like he wouldn’t help your blueline or that he’s spare parts. There’s a reason half a dozen teams have shown interest.

A -10 last playoffs!!!! Bad in every situation, except when paired with Weber, who made him look acceptable.

Your trade:

Toronto 2022 1st (top 10 protected) + dumping Nick Ritchie for

Chairot at 50% + a 4th rounder (via Tampa).

I think this is close.

I think the extra late pick comes from the Leafs side imo, but taking on Ritchie might just get the Habs their asking price of a 1st.

The price hugues asked is a 1st and a 3rd. Dont think they gonna get more than what he asking for...

Niemela and 2nd pick = caufield or guhle + 2nd

Knies + 1st pick = farrell+ 1st

just be serious...
Ok well if the habs were in similar position and had the chance to significantly upgrade a significant weakness (soft team, d who can be wore down) I don’t think Farrel plus a late first would be unreasonable. The Knies, Ritchie and first for Chairot @50% offer allows you to dump Ritchie who has another year left on his contract, and eats 50% of Chairots salary. I don’t think the upgrade from a 3rd to a 2nd last year (Knies) is that rich to pay for those cap benefits.

Your first will be traded this year. You have 2 years after this one before Mathews likely bolts. You want to jeopardize making a run this year for potentially another Lilegren/Sandin type prospect?

No problem trading Chiarot to the Leafs for prospect (ex: Niemela) + pick.

Just don't want any conditions on the pick.

I'd rather have a clear cut 2nd rounder than conditional first ex: if Leafs makes it to the 2nd round or conference final.

I prefer to enjoy to see Leafs choke like usual than have a small incentive to see them advance in the playoffs. ;)

Buff made him look acceptable also. He’s a physical defensive #5D……without Buff & Weber he is what he is a #5D. That being said GM’s do dumb things at times, see Savard trade last year…..majority of HFB laughed at the cost paid for Savard & HFB was right he was bad. What players return in trade are at times more then they are worth….see dumb GM’s comment. Chariot cannot carry any D pairing in a top 4 role. He might return a late 1st especially with retention but is he worth it?

Well, a right handed guy to start. Braun, Pysyk, and Schenn are all better options. Mayfield, if he’s available.

Hell, if knowing how to play the position is optional and we want someone to park in front of the net and crosscheck guys there’s a 6’8” kid on the Marlies.

If you need a RHD then maybe Chiarot is not for you. If Mayfield is available he could be a great fit...

Do not want!! He takes .337 more penalties than he draws and even worse in the playoffs at .440

Leafs will be in the box way more killing penalties. And he is a penalty magnet in the playoffs....where we do not want to be shorthanded.

Do any of you look at his stats? Good grief, do not want!! Say it with me....do not want!

It would seem that your management group thinks otherwise, but you are probably right.

I dont really believe there's interest in this -27 plug. Canadian Media with ownership in the Habs team trying to hype a big trade. Why? He's a 3rd pairing D that shoots left..

1-If a trade for chiarot happen, im not sure he gonna play in the top 4...

2- you dont need to overpay to get an energetic player, not a year like this season.

3- tell me the late time a rental player give up a top prospect and a 1st pick. A lot of better player than chiarot never gave that much, so you can still dream...

4- like i said, youre suggestion is higher of what hugues asking for chiarot

5- matthews will stay a leafs for a long time, i'm not even stressed

You don't think there is much interest? What do you think he will fetch?
