Leafs are getting

not just the best but also the second best D man in the off season on the move and the top goalie that is available on top of it

So the Leafs are going to sign Pesce AND Montour to horrible contracts?

On the Chris Johnston show, CJ straight up said the Leafs WILL land 2 of the top D men available.

He did say one of them probably comes via trade which is interesting because we haven't really heard much in terms of which D men are on the trade market this summer.

There was talk of Parayko being available at the deadline and the Leafs were the main team talked about.

Now that Berube is coach I wonder if that gets revisited.

There are also heavy rumours of them being in on Pesce.

Maybe make the godfather offer to him.

Sounds like Brad is cooking
Don't forget, they are in on upgrading at goalie also....and the cap will be going to 98 M not 88M....
Ya gotta laugh at the TO media...

Leafs will be rebuilding in 3 years time

Treliving might just be worse than Dubas if he gives 7M x 7 to Tanev/Zadorov/Pesce/Montour

The fix is Marner deal where you get clear future core pieces and then aggresvie 1-year UFA shopping this summer

Ride the Tavares curse out and let him retire.

2025-2026 you have marner trade assets join the team + cap space to build a team around Nylander + Matthews

Dont try to build a team with all 4 if this horrible core group still here

If they try to get 2 top 4 D in FA it’s at least 11M to make it happen. With the cap going up, contracts will be even more bloated than normal.

That leaves 9ish for 2-3 quality forwards and a starting goalie. You aren’t letting Woll take the reins when you are trying to compete. I expect 4+ for a decent goalie

The numbers don’t make sense. They can maybe do one top 4 D, a bottom pairing guy for 1.5-2.5, and then a decent goalie and their forwards

Also. I just listened. He just said that they will need to replace 2 of their top 6 D in free agency or trade.

He never said they will get 2 of X group of players. It was a really benign statement

Edit. In a follow up. He mentioned hunting for Pesce. Roy. Tanev didn’t say would get 2 of them.

So you do believe that multi million dollar contracts that are signed 15 minutes after free agency opens actually take 15 minutes to put together.

As I have several bridges in Japan to sell you
They can talk a few days before. The contract is standard other than the ffg dollars paid.

Talking now is illegal

In other words, leafs will add 2 dmen and the Toronto media will declare them 2 of the best available. Considering they only have 5 dmen under contract and 2 of them are AHLers its not a huge surprise they'd add more.
I'm curious who you think the top 3 defensemen are in this free agent class.

T.O.
According to Toronto media, they're in on every single UFA, RFA, players on the trade block, any person from Toronto, Connor McDavid, 8 head coaches, and any decent international player looking to come to the NHL. Most of which will apparently sign at league minimums.

It’s funny because their problem this year was their $40M forwards not being able to score lmfao

@hockeykicker @LEAFANFORLIFE23 @Djp Don’t forget that in some cases with pending UFAs if the team that owns their rights has decided to move on from the player or has effectively given up hope of re-signing them or has made their best offer, they simply consent to the UFA talking to other teams. Sometimes it can lead to a trade for rights or the player realizing that his current team is actually making the best offer out there.

the fact we get these threads every off season is pretty funny. Leafs will be in on everyone according to the eastern media. Even though the SCF is on and there is a Canadian team in it(sucking) eastern media still needs to toss stuff out their because it is the leafs. Jets, Habs, Flames and Canuck media are more or less laying low till the final is over--not leaf media

My first thought as well... or they'll be the ones to give Zadorov his 6x6 or whatever. Just sounds like mistakes are about to be made more than anything.
