It so simple and so perfect. Hire Carlyle, sign an enforcer, pray we win the lottery.

I think I take Keslers word over a hfboards poster with an obvious agenda. We have a good team that's plays soft and without a coach that forces accountability on the star players. Carlye is just that

We already have somewhat of a Carlye like team just need an enforcer. It's built for him especially the defenseman which is his specialty

Get an enforcer to fight all those other enforcers around the league, eh?

I'm not for or against RC right now, but there's literally 0 point to ice an enforcer these days.

If you're going to shill him you should at least spell his name correctly.

I don't think we'll be bottom team with Carlyle, actually. we'd probably make the playoffs in this division, or be like this year's Bruins perhaps. But Carlyle is bottom of the list no doubt for who we should hire. And your agenda is to champion him and idealize being a tough team and then hide behind a quote from Kesler.

There is literally zero reasons to dress an enforcer. Considering you think Stewart is physical, I don't think you enjoy physical play as much as you do fighting.

My agenda is his tough team had playoff success and made "ducks hockey" a term identified with being a tough team. Sure I'd love to go back to that

The ducks used to be and should be the team that forces other team to use an enforcer. That's the point

Yeah, that's worked out quite well for the team as everybody *****es and moans about the officiating and the Ducks are always near the top of the league in penalties. Not to mention our captain constantly being thrown off his game while he *****es at the refs every game.

Dirk, it's time to trade in the horse and buggy for an automobile.

I'm sure you have an answer to where we're getting a roster as good as 10 years ago that doesn't end with "get an enforcer and we're good to go".

I keep telling you, your beef is with the wrong person. Murray made the team soft, not Boudreau.

Majors (on the assumption it's mostly fights and few are other infractions)
Year | Coach | Majors
2009 | Carlyle | 82
2010 | Carlyle | 79
2011 | Carlyle | 68
2012 (prorated) | Carlyle | 49.91304348
2012 (prorated) | Boudreau | 44.47457627
2013 (prorated) | Boudreau | 42.70833333
2014 | Boudreau | 40
2015 | Boudreau | 37
2016 | Boudreau | 43

Notice that in 2012 there wasn't that much of a change from Carlyle's 23 games to Boudreau's 59 games.

What makes you think that Murray will get an enforcer? When's the last time we even had one?

Can you give an example of accountability? I hear it, but I'm not sure I can recall what Carlyle has done to make players better by holding them accountable.

John

I feel like Carlyle has benched star players late in games but Boudreau hasn't. But that's just my impression.

Originally, my thought on the Carlyle thing was "God no!!!!!"

But then I sat back. I looked at the two stars of my team who are lazy, lack leadership, and have yet to pony up when it matters. And I thought, who on earth could really get them going?

Carlyle.

Imagine it. The two baby allstars having to swallow it and realize, slacking off won't get him fired this time.

Mentioned this before, but we led the league in majors this year.

Randy Carlyle? Are you ****ing kidding me?

So let me get this straight. We just fired the coach with the best record among active coaches, and some of you want to "replace" him with a guy, who can't run a proper defensive system? It's no secret that Carlyle's teams have been piss-poor defensively, getting outplayed and outshot in their own end on a nightly basis... :help:

But I guess that small detail doesn't matter, right? As long as we'll have truculence and pugnacity, and a goon squad as the 4th line, we'll return to our winning ways!

Basically. I don't think it really matters. Boudreau had to go, I'm glad he's gone, but the time to make the move was last summer. There's no coach on the market that screams "hire me for your contending team."

Exactly this. The time to let Bruce go was last offseason, when a bunch of tenured coaches were available (Babcock, DeBoer, McLellan, Bylsma, ...). This year's "free agent crop" is very poor in comparison to last year's bunch, we'll have to either promote Paulrus as the HC or take a gamble on a rookie NHL coach.

"I didn't know there wouldn't be anybody available."

MacLean is the best option I can think of at this point. I really liked the way he had the Sens playing in his rookie year as a head coach, they were hungry, tough and came at you in waves. Maybe he's someone who wears out his welcome over a couple years, but that's fine if he helps us win first.
