Choose the next HC

I think Hunter would be a good choice but I still question his interest. When you run the family business, nobody can fire you and you can be with your family all year. When you work somewhere else as a coach, you will be away from your family the whole season and ultimately you will get fired too. He never really wanted the Washington job and only took it for a short time as a favor.

Let's see if Henry has the willingness to open up the purse and make it real tempting. Because I'd guess that's the only chance the Ducks have of landing him.
I can answer that one with a great degree of certainty.

I also found this as an interesting read of Dale Hunter's Capitals: http://grantland.com/the-triangle/t...-madness-of-dale-hunters-washington-capitals/

Sure this was five years ago, but it doesn't make his system sound too good.

EDIT:

I'll throw this one here as well before going to sleep:

That sounds a little better, especially being able to adapt during the game. Based on the comments of some of the old news about Hunter in Washington, it sounded like he forced the defensive system on them while mismanaging some players (AO).

Could also be a case of him trying too hard and overcorrecting their problems. By all accounts he was very different in Washington than he was in London.

i like the sound of hunter's defensive minded system but is that really what this team needs right now?

all i want in the new coach is the ability to get getzlaf and perry to play to their potential. that's all

It's funny that Hunter is being discussed at the same time that we are all discussing Getzlaf getting stripped of the C, because Hunter was pretty much the last of the Captains who were leaders rather than the best player on the team.

That could have been the case as well.

Based on how he left NHL the last time, I'd say it's unlikely he'd be interested to come over, but who knows. Times change. He does sound like he could be the right type for this Ducks group.

I'd be pretty happy with Hunter. Would be fitting that he'd replace Boudreau in Anaheim too.

Just the fact BM is interviewing RC is rather worrying. Like come on man, don't go back there.

Seconded. That would be a case of recycling a coach, and my question is: Why?

I'm not entirely opposed to the idea of bringing back a previous coach, but I'd need a reason. Such as showing the ability to adapt, and improve himself as a coach. I've gotta say, I didn't see that from him in Toronto.

Hopefully this isn't a case similar to BM overreacting to how the team goes out, and changing the roster to more emulate the Cup winning team. What I mean is, hopefully he isn't overreacting to why the team got off to such a poor start (players coming in out of shape, not being accountable, etc.) and wanting to hire a guy like Carlyle who will bust their ***** in camp.

carlyle is widely viewed around the league as a coach with an outdated system, so of course murray would hire him

The only leftovers with RC is Getzlaf and Perry (one year of Fowler?). Not upset with it and not surprising with how mad BM is with those two.

I don't think many of us here are opposed to tough hockey. We're more opposed to a pure collapsing defensive system which preaches reacting rather than enforcing.

I'd like to see us GET AWAY from the passive defensive system.

I'm hoping this is just Murray doing his friend a solid, and throwing him an obligatory interview out of respect. I can't see anything logical about Carlyle coming back here other than "encouraging" the twins to waive their NMC's.

I think BM is doing an old friend a favour by giving him a chance. Don't think RC is a real option at this point.
