Based on what? Marie Phillipe Poulin would 100% decimate the CHL, just like Matthew Savoie is doing.

Women are weaker and slower and less durable on average, sure. The good thing with averages is that its just that, theres variation all over the place.

And no, she wouldnt be, shes be living in a less misogynistic time, lmao.

On the same account asian males cant play in the NHL because theyre on average weaker, smaller and weigh less. Lets call Suzuki, hes off the team.

Oh and theres no more white people on NBA, they cant jump.

Whats next? Were going to mention POC are dumber than blue eyes blond haired individuals?
Lol no she wouldn't

Haha I know, you can tell by the last sentence:

That this is a feelings over facts statement.

The Canadian Women's Olympic hockey team lost to Dion Phaneuf's little brother's U16 AAA team, the Canadian's Women's Olympic soccer team lost to a U15 boy's team, the Williams sisters (best ever women to play tennis) got smoked by the 200 ranked male while smoking cigs and drinking beers.

We can evidently see that the best women in the world at sports are only has good as their 15 year old gender counterpart. Nothing against women, it's just biological differences.

Yeah she'll be going to the NCAA I'm sure. Team Canadas women dont play against men at this level of competition so the likelihood of her doing so is pretty slim. Having the skill to have a WHL team draft you is a feat to proud of in and of itself though

This is all fun and games...until this young lady gets hurt.

I will wager my home with anyone here she never plays in a real game.
It would be a surprise if she ever did.

Teams have only picked players in the 13th round 20 times in the past 12 WHL drafts. They usually pass on the pick. Only 2 of those played in the WHL.

It’s a situation where they can throw whatever they want at the board and it doesn’t much matter.

Chloe had a fantastic year statistical wise with a group of WHL level players at 13/14 years old. Nothing wrong with the pick, worst case, and obviously extremely, extremely likely, she doesn’t make it and they get some publicity and bring more awareness to womens hockey. If they never chose her, they would have passed on the pick anyways, no harm no foul.

She is likely going to have much more trouble keeping keeping her level of play up once the guys she’s playing with age up and go through their growth spurts. But as a 14 year old she was as good or better than many of the guys she plays with. Unfortunately, the older you get the harder it is to keep up.

You know, who cares if she even makes it to the WHL?

She might never come close. But her name and story will be circulating. "A woman has been drafted in the WHL".
It gives hopes for women hockey players. Perhaps more of them participate in hockey and takes it seriously.

Yes, it takes an exceptionally gifted female athlete to even have a chance at it, but if they see no future in it, nothing to dream about, those exceptionally gifted female athletes will not pick up hockey.

If they see that there's a space for those elite performers, then maybe, with an increased pool of talent, just maybe, one of them eventually make it big in a pro men's league (not necessarily the NHL mind you).

I think it's just a matter of moving the goalpost. Yeah, maybe it's tiny fraction of elite female hockey athletes that could ever dream of making it. But, without the pool of players to support it, it will obviously never happen.

Congratulations to her, and good luck in her attempt to become the first WHL female player!

There are tons of these examples but people just can't accept it.

Can even one WNBA player dunk??? Meanwhile half the guys on every single city high school team here can dunk, or at least several per team.

This girl was drafted as a publicity stunt full stop.

People are missing the point. She just had a tremendous season playing in the U15 league with boys. This is her reward for that, a nice moment of publicity. A memory that she will cherish, I'm sure, for a lifetime. It's really wonderful. She will never play in the WHL. That doesn't matter, it still means something to her and her family.

As to the merits of the argument...what is there to say? They used a 13th round pick. She's 34th in PPG among defensemen in her league. One of like 5 or so leagues that feed into the WHL. Her league is a U15 league, so at the start of the season, the kids were 13 and 14 years old, by the end they're 14 and 15 years old. There's a huge difference between 14 year olds and 15 year olds, and likewise a huge difference between 15 year olds and 16 year olds. The body goes through a lot of changes at that time. Keeping up with the boys all the way through 14 years old is extremely impressive already, and getting drafted is a deserved reward for this accomplishment, these things should be celebrated in their own right without any discussion about the future.

As to the mention of Marie Philip Poulin. Team Canada Women's Hockey, which went on to win gold in Beijing, played 5 friendlies against Jr. A teams this past year and they lost all 5 of them by score of 30-2. Their record before that against AAA was 58-46-5, so an above average team. That's a pace of 91 points over an 82 game season.

Would MPP be PPG in the WHL when she scored 10 points in 15 games in Midget AAA? There's reason to be skeptical...

I don't think that's the point at all. I believe the point is to virtue signal.

I'm pretty sure it's a political/PR move. She's at the age when boys really accelerate in their physical development, while girls don't. So she played vs kids before, and now she's going to play vs young men. It won't happen. I'm pretty sure doctors won't let her play vs 6'3 200 lb or even bigger guys. It's not a movie, it's real life.

It’s funny seeing people comment who have no understanding of biology talking out of their ass. It’s cool that she got drafted but she can’t be compared to boys that are the same height and weight. Men are born with better skeletal structure for athletic sports, along with superior muscle mass abilities and better reaction time. That’s not even taking into account testosterone. Anyone who has ever taken a biology class and paid attention would know this. Good luck to her tho she’s extremely skilled for her age. But please for the love of god stop talking about things from a social standpoint and ignoring science.

"Doctors" won't let her play? Because they're worried she'll get smoked? Come on let's be realistic, is she doesn't play it's because she won't be good enough - like other late rounders. If she beats the odds and continue to be an impact player in Midget and beyond, then cool - like other late rounders.

I believe the chances are extremely low that she even makes it to the WHL, but again... par for the course for a 13th pick no?

She's not even a novelty. If she's okay with that-fine.

Unless the plan is for them to have consentual intercourse, I don't see how what he did is relevant here.

Also, she's way too young for him.
He's the worst known recent example of a young hockey player who can't manage himself appropriately in a conversation regarding young hockey players who can't manage themselves appropriately.

I donno how long she’d last. A full contact league with some guys in their 20s? Could be kinda rough for her.
Will not those much bigger young men take it a bit easier on her? Imagine a 220 pound 20 year old man running over a 16 year old girl, and the girl ends up seriously injured. That guy would feel absolutely terrible, right?

But why?

Its really good that this has happened,
but why did they choose a girl over a boy?

It was in the 13th round, she is good but a phone call from co owner Buble screams publicity stunt, even though she is good enough right now to be picked there but not for projections really.

The physical differences and advantages for boys really start to take over at ages 15, 16 and 17 but this is still a great story.

Glad to see the Giants take a flyer on Aaron Obobaifo with their second first round pick.
