She’s about the same height as Johnny Gaudreau. 4 inches taller than Nathan Gerbe. Physical disadvantages blah blah, she can put on some weight and hit the weight room and won’t have any problems. Men get crushed too, it happens and it’s fine. If she’s smarter and faster than the guys, who cares about her size.
men have higher bone density. Regardless of her size I doubt the coach will put her in a game; way too dangerous.

This is not house league; these players are playing for their future and wont hold back.

Because women can be better than boys at anything, what the hell does that mean lmao?

Shes bigger than Debrincat, stop this veiled misogyny, it reeks. This is 2022.

Yes, some are.
This being 2022 doesn't somehow negate the significant physical differences between men and women so why don't you let up on the virtue signaling.

Theres a pretty significant overlap in physicals for both sex, this player is the same size as a guy that literally dominated the NHL league this year, like men need to chill.

She will definitely have problems. She will probably never play a game.

Size doesn't mean anything. A woman the same size as a man will not be as strong.

While true, the difference between top level athletes of the same size on strength levels are much less than you think. Were talking 100 lbs +/- on squat and deadlift and 40 +/- on bench press. Were talking a 100 lbs difference on a weightlifting total. Were talking about less than a second on a 100m run.

The reality is the difference between Johnny Gaudreau, Alex Debrincat and Shea Weber isn't that different than the difference between similar sized women of the same skill level (If that exists).

Anectdotal at best, but Ive been practicing brazilian Jiu-jitsu for about 2 years now, and I rarely struggle "strength"-wise because I am a bigger guy. I see no discernable difference between anyone from 120-165 pounds when I go up against them, the force I apply on them is the same and the force they apply on me is the same, the speed with which they move and the agility is also very similar.

Anything you can do to get more people interested in talking about hockey is a good thing. She won't ever play in a game if she wants to go the NCAA route but I can see her playing some prospect games which will be interesting

Olympic weightlifting women 76kg winner 263 kg, men 73kg winner 364 kg.

I really don't get why this even needs to be a debate. It's not only strength, it's durability as well, and bone density. Playing in any physical boys' league requires the girl to be truly exceptional. Pointing this out is also not "misogyny".

This is beyond being exceptional, its dangerous for her. Like I mentioned before WHL is a development league, these players are basically playing for their future; they will go hard. She would probably be able to take a few hits; but if someone really wanted to; they could physically destroy her.

We have a few girls playing in our beer league and its completely different; people have to go to work the next day so everyone takes it easy.

A research in which they took 10% BF athletes and compared them with regular women.

Although correction for lean mass in this study removed some of the gender-related differences, higher bone density in males was still evident in the hip and tibial regions. Exercise is also known to influence lean mass, as well as bone size and strength.55-57 The importance of lean mass on bone properties needs further study, as does the potential role of testosterone in causing higher lean mass in males performing at approximately the same level of exercise as the size-matched females.

From the article.

Yes, males is the stronger and more durable sex. No, she wont implode if she plays in the CHL.

Will get more difficult for her the older she gets, afraid she won’t be getting any better vs. the competition moving forward. Guys her age will be going through their growth spurts in the next year or two. Would have been much more difficult for her to get there in the OHL and Q drafts for example, playing against 15-17 year old guys instead of the 13-14 year old guys from the WHL.

Getting drafted by a CHL team is an accomplishment for anyone, it’s extremely impressive for a girl to get that recognition.

Since the 2010 WHL draft only two players picked in the 13th round actually played in the WHL, with one of them only playing 3 games.

Most teams don’t even pick any players in that round, they just opt out.

Massive props to her for getting drafted, and I honestly hope she can make the team one day, but it’s just not bound to happen.

I think it will be more about her speed than anything. I hope she plays a few games because I think it’s good for hockey. She is tall enough to play.

Size and strength are two different things. I’m willing to bet Gaudreu is still quite strong.

It’s not misogynistic to point out that men are just inherently stronger then women and that translates quite a bit to sports.

If she was able to play in the WHL in a contact league at her age she would already be the best female hockey player to ever exist. The best female player on earth right now would struggle playing contact hockey in the WHL

Based on what? Marie Phillipe Poulin would 100% decimate the CHL, just like Matthew Savoie is doing.

Women are weaker and slower and less durable on average, sure. The good thing with averages is that its just that, theres variation all over the place.

And no, she wouldnt be, shes be living in a less misogynistic time, lmao.

On the same account asian males cant play in the NHL because theyre on average weaker, smaller and weigh less. Lets call Suzuki, hes off the team.

Oh and theres no more white people on NBA, they cant jump.

Whats next? Were going to mention POC are dumber than blue eyes blond haired individuals?

Men and women have evolved to naturally be built differently, biomechanically. As soon as physical contact is brought into any sport, it can’t truly be “co-ed” once we become young adults (18-20 roughly). All it takes is one big kid in the heat of the moment not noticing and just barreling into her. As strong and built as any woman may be, there will be some nut job in the league who will take a run at her.
It’s unfortunately our reality, as many women are extremely talented and deserving of recognition and certainly deserving of the ability to play/get paid to play as adults, but I hope to see her get some exhibition games at least in a few years. Congrats to her, this is awesome!

It's unbelievable to me that these simple facts are considered controversial today.
