Yea im just trying decern if demand is because of low price and perceived value.

I think back to the tanev trade. he went for a 2nd and a pretty low end spec when he was the most hyped d rental on the market last year. I think when teams dont think they can sign guys the price can sometimes drop pretty precipitously. This is a point with rentals where im always unsure about.

yea my point is that seems seem to really soured for him in carolina. The fact that they are entertaining offers is wild to begin with.
It is crazy they are looking to move him. I thought he was good friends with Aho. I figured he would resign there.

Carolina GM is having a rough go. First Guentzel won’t resign and now rantanen looks like he won’t resign.

There was something that came out earlier this year that the Canes owner is basically the GM.
He allegedly micromanages the shit out of everything with the team. Might have something to do with the Guentzal and Rantanen situations

it is kinda wild to me that it can come off like posters are more willing to move Robertson than stank or borque.
Preface: I am not saying I would prefer to move Robo. But if you trade Robo for a rental, you gain cap and could potentially sign someone to similar money at similar production (perhaps the resign the rental). If you trade Mav or Stank for a rental, you get a short term upgrade but long term you lose their production and the cap you gain is way too little to replace their production.

He seems cheap. They kept Rod The Bod and his staff together but it apparently was a contentious negotiation because he doesn't like paying his staff top dollar.

Tanev was the most talked about defenseman, but he still wasn't a high end addition. Much like right now, it said more about how few good defenders were even rental options at the time.

For all of the good in Tanev's game, he was still an old injury-prone guy who provides no offense. It's what limited his return, and honestly, we saw those negatives during the playoff run. He was awesome in his own end, produced no offense, and got hurt. We got the full Tanev experience in a matter of weeks.

Rantanen will fetch more than Tanev did, but none of the rentals out there are landing huge returns. Maybe Rantanen will be different and will generate more of a bidding war. We'll see.

I think it would be funny if Nill sent Carolina Granlund and they extended him.

make a move and worry about the cap this summer. teams will be wheeling and dealing this summer thanks to the new cushion. it will be chaos

if you trade Robertson, you gain back 7.75m.
What point per game player can you realistically sign for 7.75m?
Rantanen turned down (reportedly) 10m from the Avs already.

There isn't a single rental on the market worth trading Robertson for, even if there was, you aren't getting his production for his current price.

We all hope Stank and Bourque turn into 20+g guys, but who knows if they reach that. There production is easier to replace than just swapping a known, sure thing.

I think any talk of moving Robertson would be in the summer. And it's not so much about wanting to trade him as him being your best trade chip given he has no trade protection. If they did acquire and extend Rantanen, then Robertson is the guy you dangle to find that magical defender not currently available.

Mav and Stank production per cap is only replaceable by other players on ELC or first contract (long term).

Again, I am not saying we should trade Robo. I am just trying to illustrate the value of quality players that are cost controlled.

Trade Robo for Rant, you can keep Rant.

Trade Stank or Mav for Rant, Rant is a pure rental.

And again, I don't want to do either of these. If you can get Rant without giving up valuable roster players, do it.

People are going to lose their minds when they find out he wants to play in Buffalo.
First time for everything

I’m sure his idol Jere will put in a good word and convince him to sign an extension here.
On the trade boards, they are talking about him getting 8x15. Unless he is playing with Mackinnon or the one player you can argue is better than Mackinnon, he isn't going to live up to that contract.

No State income tax could lower that a little.
