Lafferty was a 13/14F for us...so whatever.

I wish both players the best of luck.

Had never heard of Lafferty and googled him. Oh my god, this 26 year old's hair development is a legitimate tragedy

Nylander's last NHL season as a 22 year old is definitely something encouraging, is it not? Why hasn't he played since? 10Gs, 26 points in 65 games in a depth role seems pretty NHL worthy.

If anything it's adding another young player for the pens who might be looking for competition to fill gaps next season.

Possible UFAs fowards going into next year include Geno, Rust, ZAR, E-rod, Simon, Boyle, Carter.

Give him the rest of the year to get comfortable in a new environment and see if he's possible player to fill a gap in the off-season.

He will probably not light the league on fire but the pens have done unexpectedly well with players who had low expectations like schultz, daily, petterson, Marino, heinen, e-rod, mccann, and even Carter over the past handful of years.

I've noticed many people still think Nylander is either a young good player whom has upside or can bring back a better return. Neither of which is true Nylander while he has skill he could never put it to great use shift in shift out his defensive lapse and lack of being a offensive threat is everything buffalo realized in him. Stan screwed up this team so badly with horrible contracts and a serious lack of young talent that he was forced to trade for retreads.

Nylander was never going to bring back anything special. I see this more so as a opportunity to bring in some size and a 4th line player.

The doghouse
I am really confused for why Chicago did this. Lafferty stinks, he has 3 goals in his last 90 games and does nothing except for throw hits and take stupid penalties.

This seems like Chicago giving up a scratch off lottery ticket for a bag of day old McDonald's from the dumpster.

alex nylander is a scratch off lottery ticket….that has already been scratched off and was not a winner

Yes Buffalo screwed up his development but at some point the player, who possesses the tools to play in the NHL needs to dig deep and grab a role at the NHL level. He may receive legitimate opportunity in Pittsburgh but it’s probably not a good fit overall. He needs to go to a team where he’s given legitimate too 6 minutes for a good period of time.

He probably gets one more opportunity after Pittsburgh but that will be it before he’s in Europe to resurrect himself.

Chicago was probably looking for an upgrade over Kurtis Gabriel.

Nylander hasn’t been over 13 minutes ATOI but could perhaps step into a 3rd line winger role if an injury occurs in the Pens lineup.

That sounds very plausible. I just think many chicago fans better come to terms with a complete rebuild and it wouldn't surprise me if guys like cat or maybe dach eventually get moved just because of how bad Chicago's lack of young talent is in Rockford for their future.

90% of the time this trade is just whatever and nothing will come out of it, but I feel like there is no chance that there is upside for Chicago if this trade falls into the other 10%

Chicago is a joke of an organization at this point. Thank God the Bulls are good. This town has sports team run by generationally wealthy 8th graders. Insane.

A overwhelming vast majority of all these sports organizations have no clear cut understanding of the game or sport itself. It's basically the children who've inherited the golden goose but lack any real passion for the sport or winning.

Rocky is used his father's death when he inherited the team to sell himself as a owner who wants to break all barriers and not be like his dad. Sure the first few years he had the right person in place Talon whom nobody wants to acknowledge that it was his stewardship that resulted in all 3 of Chicago's championships . Stan destroyed Rockford by shipping out all those young assets in return we got nothing back

That said... I just hope that it doesn't impact Zohorna's chances at another shot with the big club. Was really impressed by him last season. Now hopefully Alex can take a few more steps in his development and become a real asset... although I'm not really holding my breath, but who knows.
If anything, it would increase Zohorna's chances. The Penguins traded a player who would've needed to pass through waivers (and therefore, needed to be kept on the main roster to avoid the risk of being lost for nothing) for a player who is waiver-exempt.

Everybody is looking way too deep into this. Its a marginal trade from both teams. Makes the pens have even less grit which will.be an issue again in the playoffs.
Lafferty seems to be the only penguin to hit most nights when he does play.
Doesn't really help or hurt the pens just makes them even softer
