Prospect Info: Charlie Stramel, C, 21st Overall, 2023 NHL Draft

Gabe Perrault has 19 points (and counting) in 12 games this year at BC. Best player available is always the way go. We have nowhere near enough high-end talent to be drafting like we did last year.

I wasn’t a fan of the Stramel pick. I still think Edstrom would have been the way to go.

Perreault is overrated. He’s playing next to two top 8 picks from the 2023 draft and a high percentage of his points are assists.

Asked Hastings if Stramel could be moved to the wing to jump start him. Hastings gives a little bit of a deeper look onto the day to day stuff and how they are trying to help him.

Good things to hear about where he’s at and what they are considering to help him develop! Seems like good coaching there and sounds like Stramel is doing all the right things too in his eyes.

Could be interesting. Do they think he’s playing too cautious as a result of playing center (defensive responsibilities)? I’m not sure, but wingers definitely have less responsibility than centers. It would be good for him to get his first point soon. I’ll be watching Friday on tv and at the game on Saturday.

Last weekend, I thought he had a good game on Friday and probably should have had a point. Saturday not so much. Just goes to show that the box score doesn’t necessarily dictate how they played.

Funny how that works, the guy that they reached on a little bit because they wanted a safe center is not safe and may not be a center for much longer

Ehh, they could easily ignite his offense on the wing and then stick him back at center.

What’s funny is who was the guy calling out that positioning was a bit of problem… The center position demands quality positioning and he’s just not there yet in terms of offensive positioning.

Well if the center position is too hard for him to play, and moving him to the wing ignites his offense, what does moving him back to center accomplish? He still won't know how to play it.

If the problem is his positional awareness as a center, they need to teach him that, not move him to the wing.

Ehh, yes and no. Sometimes all it takes is a little freedom to get someone going.

Truthfully, I wouldn’t care if he turned into a winger with Yurov potentially being a center.

Well, as you said in the prospect thread. If Yurov is center we need a wing, if stramel turns into an offensive winger we may have pulled off a quality swap.

Yeah I'm not trying to shit on the Wild's scouting staff or Stramel with it, and it's not like I'm torn up about it, just a little bit funny is all.

Oh I agree. I was in camp Ritchie, stramel was well off my radar.
Ritchie was my guy too.

Stramel had a really good combine (rather meaningless imo), but that made him a dark horse late 1st rounder, because (some) GMs like that stuff.
I had Stramel as a late 2nd round pick based on his play last year  I was team David Edstrom and he is having a pretty solid season too.

Please Charlie, for the love of god, figure your game out. I am dying to eat crow on this one.

Yeah Ritchie I haven’t watched at all this year but stat watching seems the offensive C we wanted still. Disappointed as of now.

There were others besides Edstrom for me, but I liked him too. Otherwise, i completely echo your sentiments.

Digital - not sure if Boldy's first year in college is a fair comparison but are you at least seeing a lot of chances where he isn't finishing or teammates aren't finishing his passes? Sounds like you've said multiple times he has the tools, so just hoping it's similar to Boldy's first year...except Stramel is just bigger so it's taking time to adjust as this is his second year (this is me trying to be extremely optimistic on TG, haha).

Boldy was definitely better. Stramel plays like Eriksson Ek, where most of his goals are going to come right around the front of the net and he's not overly fantastic at passing. He's not really a threat to score from anywhere else. His teammates have had some chances. He's had more chances to score out front than his linemates IMO. Sounds like Hastings might try putting him at wing.
