ya…He wont be responding…..
May I ?
Players know what's going on and they understand the business part of the game.
What I don't get is people not thinking there is a hometown discount here.
McAvoy was a pending RFA with arbitration rights. He could have easily gone that route and still gotten the $9.5 million in arbitration, or worse yet, signed a 2 year deal for that amount and then gone to UFA where he would have gotten a lot more.
Thee is a discount here. The question is, does it come as early as next season or the season after?
thank you, Dom.
tbh for an 8 year term I was expecting $11m. He’s way way better than the 9.5 crew (nurse and werenski). I thought they’d get him on Makars deal and risk losing him at 29
I know some are worried about the cap, but
HOW DOES THE MCAVOY CONTRACT AFFECT THE BRUINS CAP MOVING FORWARD? – Dom – Hockey (wordpress.com)
The only issues are if Rask and Krejci come back. We keep being told the door is open for them.
Then of course, there is the NMC Ullmark has.
Make no mistake about it, Ullmark knows full well what the situation is with Rask and I am sure he is being updated. The NMC is there just to protect Ullmark so that he will have some say on where he goes IF the Bruins decide to move him. You and I would want the same protection. He doesn't want to go to another Buffalo and good for him.
If it comes to that, Edmonton could be a good landing spot for him and I would think he would waive to go there.
LOLEverytime I see Rittenhouse, I think he must be related to Charlie. They look like they could be Brothers.
.... or winning cups.Dont like this contract. Feel this may be universally disliked in 2 years time. Hate paying for something they havent done yet, like scoring goals
With Ullmark not getting the start last night, still wondering if Ullmark came in out of shape this year. He seemed to labor in the pre-season games
GAUGING THE BRUINS DEFENSE ONE WEEK AT A TIME OCTOBER 31, 2021
Not a knock on C-Mac, but I am wondering why he is not shooting a much
I feel like at least in the last game all of Reilly's shots came from an off balance position. At least one time I thought it was a nonchalant weak attempt rather then being out of necessity. I like Reilly, but offensively I don't feel he has been as good early this year as he was last year.GAUGING THE BRUINS DEFENSE ONE WEEK AT A TIME OCTOBER 31, 2021

While I agree with your suggestion of uprading Clifton on the right side of the third pair it's challenging for Boston at this point. Likely replacements Moore, Zboril and Vaakanainen all shoot left (although they have some experience on the right side).
The next right shot defenseman on the depth chart is Lyle. Is he anywhere close to an upgrade for Clifton or will they have to go outside the organization for an upgrade?
Alan, I didn't say an upgrade has to come from within. There are other avenues they can use to upgrade.
Personally, I don't want to see C-Mac killing penalties. He's the only offensive driver on the right side and he should be kept for 5v5 and PP time to drive offense, not hard minutes killing penalties. It's obvious Clifton can't relieve him in those hard minutes on the PK. The coaching staff doesn't trust him enough in those situations unless it's out of necessity (Charlie or Carlo serving a penalty).
This is Josh Manson music. Carlo #1 RHD PK and Manson #2 RHD PK. Upgrade on Clifton.
Is Manson on the block or something? His name keeps coming up here but I don't know if its wishful thinking or if there has been indication that he's available and the Bruins are interested.

Nice stuff. I've been looking at the numbers too, and the guy who I think has got off to a slow/tough start is Carlo. Like you said, that pair (Reilly-Carlo) has not been as good this year as they were last year, but Reilly is still on the plus side in terms of his analytics while Carlo is under water in every meaningful category (CF%, FF%, xGF%, SC%, HDC%). He is getting the most Dzone starts so I'm sure that's deflating his numbers a bit but to be minus in everything is still significant.
Statistically, Grzelcyk has been their best defenseman, and he's got more Dzone starts than McAvoy. He also looks like he's ready to carry a partner, he's out there wheeling and dealing no matter who they put him with. Maybe he can give Carlo a boost.
I agree that Cliffy may be the spot to upgrade. Love his heart but he is inconsistent and he can be very unpredictable in his own zone. His numbers are not bad right now and they have lots of time to teach/evaluate but if Reilly (or Gryz) end up driving the 3rd pair then I think they'd benefit more from a Kevan Miller type partner. And the team could use the size/strength component a guy like that would bring.
Any super early candidates you’re keeping an eye on?Unfortunately, the answer isn't in house unless you think Brady Lyle is ready (I think he needs another year in the AHL) and they will not use a left shot on the right side.
As teams get healthy, someone is going to hit the waiver wire. They'll keep an eye on that. Failing that, I think they'll search out someone that is available via trade.
C-Mac is averaging 23:49 in TOI with 1:32 on the PK. I would rather that 1:32 go to someone else who can do the job and increase C-Mac's 5vs5 time where he can do some damage on offense. If C-Mac has to fill in on the PK should Carlo or player X get a penalty that's a different story.
Just my two cents worth

Why do people feel this is the case? You actually undersold how bad Carlo's underlying numbers have been. They're never good, but holy hell they're an abomination right now.
