So, was it illegal to do that during the regular season?

Not illegal, but it definitely gets more intense in the playoffs. A strong forecheck is something the Bruins have struggled all year and honestly, the goaltending covered up a lot of the problems with getting hemmed in.

Bruins transition game from the D was hampered by a relentless forecheck. We've heard this story before and I think the blueprint is out on how to crack a Boston defensive scheme that is among the best in the league, but can get exposed along the boards and with a two man forecheck with the speed to close quickly on the puck retriever and the outlet guy.

What is strange is that the breakout strategy this year was totally different than in the past with the weak side D looking to be more of an outlet instead of playing free safety. But they made some plays to that guy in the middle that bit them bad in ways that didn't happen in the regular season. They just didn't play smart and quick enough. Got in their own heads.

its called choking and not being able to handle the pressure. The D and goaltending let them down.
they folded like a cheap tent. especially mcavoy and lindholm who were rock solid most of the season.
pretty much this. I'm not sure why as a fan it's not ok to just admit the team choked and not look for reasons or excuses.

Oh, absolutely. It was just extraordinary how much difficulty we had with the forecheck.

PP was lights out, and we scored 24 goals over a 7 game series.

RS: 3.7 GF and 2.15 GA.
PO: 3.85 GF and 3.71 GA.

Three of these numbers are excellent. One of these numbers is an epic epic fail.

Complete and utter breakdown in our D zone and, in my book, some poorly thought out evaluations of how to play our goalies given the obvious issue that Ullmark was not 100%. Maybe he was 95%, maybe 80%, maybe 60%. I don't know.
Credit to FLA too. As historic as Bostons regular season was, the Panthers were one of the top offenses in the league this year.

Your English is excellent and you know what just happened here. Take the L. It's not even a big one. Just a small little L you gotta own.
I'm always ready to take my L if situation commands it. But I'm totally lost what happened here, honestly. But I'm taking L if needed be. Even ready to apologise if situation needs it.

The series was not about the offense. I agree FLA had an underrated attack.

The issue was that the Bruins were out checked over 200 feet of the ice for much of the series.

Their regular season time was taken away. Their ability to hit stretch passes at will taken away. Most importantly to me the clean net front the Bruins had played with much of the year was eliminated by the stubborn aggressive bunch of reasonably skilled forwards that furiously buzzed around the net and impossed their will on the Bruins soft D.

The Bruins defense's composure melted under the physical checking pressure. It is a tactic that the Bruins have been susceptible to in the past.

The forwards share a great deal of the blame in terms that their fore-check is weak and all too often the opposition is able to clear the zone easily and with little resistance. Due to that fact the D is exposed to relentless pressure, turnovers, and FLA getting chance after chance to score.

If we think this was bad wait till Carolina gets a hold of a team like the Bruins in a 4-5 game series. It would be beyond ugly.

The Bruins need to retool their team to sustain and withstand playoff hockey.

The Bruin are not "built" for that...

Lindholm was a shell of himself all series but I don’t think McAvoy was choking games 1-4…so what changed?

Clinching game is hardest to win and the team being eliminated plays harder. So basically a combination of Florida turning it up and the Bruins spitting the bit.

65 wins. Couldn’t win one of the last three with two at home. Unfathomable

They needed a Gudas.

I'd say they need two of him.

I think it's becoming clear that while people think the era of the defensive D-man is over, in the playoffs you need a couple guys at least who are going to focus their energy and effort to strictly defending and not waste energy taking unnecessary chances.
