exactly this.

Arizona plays Boston, Buffalo, Dallas, Chicago and Anaheim between now and the deadline. Stone has been playing 20 minutes a night for them. What do you think ARI gets if Stone gets hurt in one of those games? If ARI doesn't think the value is going to go up by much (say a 3rd and a 5th vs a 3rd and a conditional 5th), there's really no reason to wait to pull the trigger. I mean even if he thought he might get a late 2nd, that still might not be reason enough to pull the trigger.

Best of luck Michael! High character guy, well respected in the room and has done as much as anyone Coyote off the ice with his charity and assisting hockey development in the valley.

Hope he finds his mojo....

What reason is there to think his value isn't going to be higher than is? Most of the trades from past deadlines would offer plenty of reason to believe that a better return is absolutely in the cards.

The argument for the injury risk is certainly fair, but then again, to virtually the entire league, the risk/reward ratio seems to work out.

Burke isn't our GM...

And I don't know how you feel Calgary got "owned" here.

He wasn't serious. There's this dumb meme that apparently people think that people think Chayka is some sort of super GM cause a couple non-Coyotes fans got a little ahead of themselves and made a few threads last year. It's pretty tired at this point.

all of his metrics are terrible

~42 cf%, 40.19 xgf%, scf% 39.5%

Just awful

and his relative numbers are bad too so it's not the coyotes fault that he's bad

This is not really how REL numbers work. They compare a player to his teammates, but the team can still affect those numbers. To simply say he's the worst guy on a bad team is a way too simplistic way of looking at it. I see very often the best player on bad teams have the worst REL numbers. Typically it's from abuse from their coaches.

Yes and no. At $4 Million Stone is grossly overpaid.

This year, probably so. But even then, at this point of the season, there's only about $1.1M left to pay, so the 50% amounting to $500k aren't as big a number as they might seem at first. It can obviously count for the Flames, though.

I guess they missed their chance to sell high in the offseason

Stone tore his ACL and MCL last April. Typical 6 month recovery time and even then players usually take even more playing time to return to pre-injury form.

There was never an off-season opportunity to sell high unless you're talking 2015. And without the injury he probably would have gotten a multi-year extension, instead of just the one year till UFA.

Ah that makes sense. It's hard to tell when people are being sarcastic with some of the terrible opinions you read on here daily.
