Honestly though, given that Petry got a 2nd+cond 5th as a pending UFA this deal is not at all surprising. Petry is a solid #3 while Stone is a good #5 or underwhelming #4.

True, but I thought that was a poor trade by Dallas from the start, although I saw Pollock and Jokipakka as minor throw ins as neither have ever impressed me.

Stone basically tore every ligament in his knee to shreds last year, around mid-March timeframe. He then signed a 1 year offer b/c no team wants to go into an expansion draft with a long-term deal for a player who may not return to where he was.

He's a decent to good 2nd pairing, but probably fits better as a 3rd pairing. This probably means that he wasn't in Arizona's long term plans. I was hoping for a 2nd, but this is fairly close.

Even if he returns to normal health in the next year or two, he is probably a 25-40 point player at his peak.
