That is an absolutely incredible list and many of them are the biggest stars in EE history.

If you live in the Edmonton area and are a big Eskimo fan then this is a "must" session.

George McGowan was my hero when I was a kid. I met him at my high school--would just Love to get his autograph.

I’m planning on awkwardly hugging them all. ;)

Heck of a list.

All I see are a bunch of Eskimos.

I kinda wanna go just to have someone film me asking each of them what they think about the name change and see how many awkward silences I get. I remember a few weeks ago they had an ex Eskimo on one of the local sports radio shows, I wanna say it was Mookie Mitchell and he went on a bit of a tangent about the name change before the host redirected him.

Since the club is embarrassed by the old name and won’t ever publicly speak of it, wonder if they’ll even allow all of Eskimo swag in the door that people are going to be bringing to have signed.

I think that wearing it to make a point would be worthwhile.

Those players arent 'Elks' they are Eskimos. I have no doubt that each and every one of them feel that way.

I don't think that'd be fair to them for you to film then and ask that question. That's just awkward. Why does everything need to be filmed anyhow?

Yep, do that and next time the list will be alumni that were apart of the practice squad that are coming for a free meal and weekend getaway.
Agreed-- if they answer that question with the "wrong response" then they could face a very serious backlash or possibly be fired from their jobs. Like you say, best to leave it alone. The name change has happened and it won't revert to what it was.

I’m probably just old and stubborn, but part of me is still holding out that the new owner knows and respects the history of the franchise and will bring the Eskimo name back. Elks has been the equivalent of New Coke. Never too late to go back to the classic. ;)

At this point in time I don't know that there is any sort of right answer.

I don't really know either but fairly certain that if they stated in public that "they should never have changed the name" it would land them in serious trouble and they know that.

Ridiculous?--yes, of course--but that's just today's reality. Agree with the "right" opinion or face the consequences.

There is probably a 0% chance of this ever happening because nobody is likely willing to risk being publicly (and falsely) called racist, but in the big picture I'm not sure that a new owner coming in and saying "enough with the bullshit, this team is the Eskimos, it almost died when it stopped being the Eskimos, and I'm going to make it the Eskimos again because our fans want it and an overwhelming amount of northern indigenous people have no problem with it" wouldn't pay massive dividends.

There is a growing market of people that have had enough of the woke bullshit and it's rapidly growing. They would instantly get back the fans they lost due to the name, instantly re-kindle the passion for those that still go to games, but have largely lost connection to the team (me) and probably draw people that latch on just to stick it to the mob.

Obviously would have to bear the brunt of a temporary media and social media firestorm of the vocal minority, but at this point the juice might actually be worth the squeeze.

I'm liking that AJ Ouellette found his way to the Riders. Already hugely popular and they're selling out of "S" Thor Hammers. Streveler back in the Peg. Can't go wrong with larger than life personalities for the league and especially in those two markets.

I guess the difference is that unlike Coke, there was outside pressure to change the name. Coke just did a badly thought out internal experiment, so it was easy for them to go back.
I wish a new owner would come forth and change the name back, and say something like, "For all the Inuit peoples out there that have loved us in the past, loved the name, and respected what the name meant to this organization and to yourselves, this name's for you!:D

The first order of business is to find a new owner otherwise there won't be any team name-- because there won't be any football team. The Elks will be extinct.

The Edmonton Nothingness will be the new handle. Gone from the football Universe.
