Seeing today that Game 1 of the Cup Final is happening at the same time as the Elks home opener. If the Oilers pull it off, that's going to absolutely kill sales for the home opener and make it look like a preseason game.
Yikes, that sucks. Wonder if the CFL and the Elks would move the game either earlier in the day or to another day. There might be more people on the field than in the stands if the Oilers make the Stanley Cup Final.

Going a step further *knock on wood* - if the Oilers won the Cup, would anyone even realize the Elks exist before about mid-August?

Could they potentially lean into the whole thing and move the game earlier and then show the Oiler game in the stadium at the conclusion of the EE game? Haven't been to Commonwealth in years so I have no idea if they have a nice big screen or not. I would absolutely watch an Oiler game in Mosaic if they did that here.

If they started well, they could parlay it into a whole City of Champions type thing again. They could invite the Oilers to do a half time tour around the track with the cup.

Ultimately, the bigger thing for the Elks this year will be their own success rather than any other Edmonton team's success if they want to turn things around.

If the Oilers pull it off, that would be a hell of an idea. Should pass that onto the team as there's also the ice district carnival that weekend so maybe they want to spread some of the crowd elsewhere.

That said, the jumbotron is decent but with it only being in the endzone it's not as good a viewing experience as it would be in Rogers where everyone is looking towards the middle instead.

I emailed the Elks this morning asking the question about the potential conflict with the Oilers games. I received a prompt reply saying nothing is set in stone yet but that they wouldn't be surprised it they moved up the start time. Said to stay tuned to social media for updates.

Good to know it's at least an option. Hopefully the Oilers push this agenda making it happen.

I really hope the CFL and the networks eagerly support this and accommodate it.

It's in absolutely nobodies interest for the Elks home opener to collide with an Oiler Stanley Cup Final game. You would hope it's a simple and easy decision.

Even the Riders fans would likely prefer this

Sounds like Malik Henry didn't do too well in his QB debut so its looks like Ford and Doege will occupy the back up spots.

A rookie laden lineup for the the game but once again, a huge number of penalties.

Well, here we go. I'll be content with a 9-9 regular season and a step forward towards respectability.

I laughed at Jones comments about it being only preseason and results don't matter. They never seem to matter to him.

From how bad the team has been the last two years, .500 would be a nice step, but considering this is Jones third year in control, are expectations should be above that. Honestly 7 wins is about my expectation for this year.

29 guys cut by the EE yesterday.

The only 2 names I recognized were Malik Henry and Dean Faithfull (global experiment from England).

Looks like a new kicker again this year?

When they brought in Boris Bede, you could see the writing was on the wall for Faithfull. Faithfull also missed a routine FG in the home preseason game so that likely was the nail in the coffin. Our FG kicking should be improved and more reliable this seasons with Bede.

Sure hope so because when you are timid about kicking a field goal outside of 40 yards then it can't work too well.

By invoking history in the promo, I can only anticipate that the uniform will be in the form of Elk fur with antlers literally extending from the helmet.

I've come to learn that any wink at history is met with the least possible connection to history in the end with this team.
Yup.
This team is clearly embarrassed by the Eskimo name.
So dysfunctional.

Do we have another global roster player, or are we on the lookout?

8 receivers on the roster.

4 Canadians and 4 Americans.

Of the entire group, 4 of them are less than 6 ft. tall (3 of them are listed at 5'10"). Of the American receivers, newcomer Malik Flowers (nice name) is listed at 6'2"--the tallest of the entire bunch. So not a group with a lot of size. RB Kevin Brown also listed at 5' 9".

They are not going to overpower any defenses with their size but hopefully agility will be there. Canadian talent content looks to be improved.

I see that Faithfull Dean is on the practice roster--insurance policy.
