was at the game tonight....a few observations/corrections

  • [
    • *]Frechette had the big night on the score sheet - not Salazzo - although Joey played well....Cumberland is getting a lot out of their remaining core players - Douglas, Frechette, Shore, Salloum, McCabe, Kyle, Mansbridge, Siguoin and Faber
    • Grads are short staffed (only eight regular forwards available to the team for the past two weeks) but are responding to outstanding coaching from Leger....might be a bit late to catch the Raiders this year for the last play off spot but the building blocks are in place for next year if ownership can convince the coach to stay
    • Shot clock showed 16 shots for Cumberland....five in the second and three in the third.....I can assure you the shot counter was under the influence or looking the other way...
    • Also feel bad for the home town kids - despite the chaos around Kanata they gave a solid effort, although chippy at times as I am sure the frustration of the season is wearing on them
    • Hard to figure out who was directing (coaches) the team tonight.....first two minutes of the third period there were no coaches on the bench????
    • Someone needs to come to the rescue for the Lasers!

Kanata just lost 5-2 to Cumberland tonight. Grads scored five times on 16 shots, led 5-0 at one point.

Joey Solazzo with a big night 2g/2a, while Brandon Zullo 2g/1a - impressive to see the development of those two.

If Nepean doesn't pick things up down the stretch, I genuinely think the Grads might catch them. Was floored by how...bad...they were when I saw them the other night in Gloucester. Easily the worst Raiders team in a decade. Record-wise, they're on pace to be the worst Raider team since 95-96 (ouch).

Can't see Nepean picking up many points this weekend with Pembroke (away), Cornwall (showcase), and Brockville (away) on the slate.

Were you at the Kanata game? Point streak has the 2g/2a going to Martin Frechette and shows Brandon Zullo as having 1g/2a. They were first and second star respectively.
As for John Hill, I have never met a man who has treated people so rudely and disrespectfully. He Struts around all the local JR B hockey arenas like he is god's gift to the hockey world. His ignorance of the game has shown itself in spades. Karma's a *****.

I was hoping the Kanata players would have taken a stand last night and not dressed for the game but I also realize that would not have been fair to them or to Cumberland. That would have definately sent a message.
If my child was playing on that team and I paid all that money for him to play the Commissioner would have heard from me.
My friend who is a billet said the kids really respected their coaches. Still haven't heard exactly why they resigned but an earlier post mentioned they were standing up for their players against Hill/Hawkins...

If I can say one thing to the players it is this: unfortunately you are all stuck in a bad situation. Hold your heads high, play the game you love to play for yourself and no one else. Your season is almost over and hopefully it will get better for next year.

I meant Frechette, not sure why I typed out Solazzo haha.

Yeah Kanata didn't have coaches on the bench for a bit in the 3rd. It's ridiculous.

Wouldn't that be a sight to see...

We can all agree it's very unfortunate that nothing is done about this
There must be something the teams in the league can do along with Abrams ..
These people are terrible for the cchl

The one bright spot in Nepean is the play of John Gilmer, and it's good to see him moving up from Junior B. His limited play has been terrific and might pick them up. Why give him a start which he wins and then start Marotte again? I think John might be up to the task!

Can someone explain to me how kanata can have a coach on the bench who is serving a 4 game suspension from the league ?

What in the world is Abrams thinking allowing that?
This is junior A hockey!

There are no exceptions for anyone

This took all my respect away from Mr Abrams and how the CCHL is run

So who was on the Laser bench???

Can't see Cumberland picking up more than 7 pts for the rest of the season (playing Pemb, Corn, CP, Hawkesbury,Ott)... they only have 1 game vs Nepean, 2 vs Gloucester... where else would their points come from if they only get 16 shots vs Kanata???

Not a good guy for this league
Continually in trouble

However he fits right in with the other two lads

This has gone from bad, to worse, to terrible and now pitiful

Problem with Nepean is GF not GA... If they score 3,4,5 goals a game they will win more

Heard tonight that the Gills have sold the Braves. Not sure who bought them but the new owners will certainly bring in new staff for next year.

Glad to hear you were able to get your son out of Kanata. Hope that more parents take the same stand you did. As said in many posts before Kanata was a bad place before Hill/Hawkins took over and now ir has gone to worse....
Abrams knows what's happening why can't he force his hand. Force them out.
Hope your child is successful where he is now

Just wondering if Piccolino really played tonight against Kemptville? I had seen that he received a 6 game suspension while CP's Therien received 4 for their fight last week. Therien hasn't dressed for last 2 games. Gamesheet error or illegal player?

He absolutely played and I don't know why ? Is there an exemption for a "showcase". This is very odd. He was good too.

To try and promote players the best they can, the league lets suspended players play in the showcase because there are more scouts/exposure.

Assuming he hasnt served a game yet, the 6 game suspension will start on Sunday.

How many Hockey Canada rules does the league violate ? I wonder how they will handle this type of situation when they take over minor hockey (Midget AAA).

It's a great lesson for the kids. Rules are only important, when they don't negatively impact your life. :handclap:

Rumour is the financing comes from someone in Ottawa however the buyout is led by Dustin Traylen (x-assistant and goalie coach of the Colts). He more than likely will assume the GM duties and possibly a coaching role too. I have not heard anything official though.
