I know that there are not a lot of people out there that want to talk about Kanata. Sad sad situation. The owner needs to make some appearances and see the mess that Hill and Hawkins have made of this team.
There are 3 young coaches that want to coach but you can only do so much with non calibre players. Wake up Mr. Greer. This is not JRB. Hill and Hawkins need to go along with about 60% of the players.
And you can also say the coaches are inexperienced but I really don't think that matters in this case.

Greer is merely a minor partner John Hill has 60% of that team. Greer is merely on paper as the main guy. JH has made that place unbearable, I hope they are accumulating draft picks that work out for them cause I am unsure how they would sell the place to high end kids they seek to recruit from outside the region.

Neil Doef

Wishing Mr. Doef that each day brings renewed strength, brighter times & good health.

"KINDERSLEY, Sask. – Following a collision with a Swiss defenceman in the first period of Sunday afternoon’s game at the 2014 World Junior A Challenge, Canada East forward Neil Doef was transported by ambulance to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Sask.

Neil underwent surgery on Sunday night, and is resting comfortably with his parents, who arrived Monday morning from Ontario, at his side. He will continue to undergo tests, and is receiving tremendous care from the staff in Saskatoon.

Hockey Canada would like to thank Dr. Dan Johnson and the local EMS for their quick response, and the World Junior A Challenge host committee in Kindersley, Canadian Junior Hockey League, Central Canada Hockey League and Smiths Falls Bears for their support.

The focus is on Neil and his family, and Hockey Canada will not have further comment until more information becomes available. Hockey Canada asks that you respect the Doef family’s right to privacy and not contact them at this time."

Heard it might be a fractured C7 vertebra. Would not quote me on that but that is what I read somewhere. Hopefully he can recover and play hockey still.

It is times like these that remind us that it is "just a game". And it can be dangerous. I understand a C7 fracture can be very serious.

I am sure playing hockey is the not on the family's mind. A full recovery is what is important.

I an not overly religious but a few prayers and good wishes would be appropriate at this time from our hockey family. We compete but we are all connected.

Lets hope for a speedy and full recovery.

Who's in Charge of Canada East?

Our prayers go out to the Doef family and for a speedy recovery.

I noticed that Adrian Clark, CP's outstanding goalie was the backup today as Canada East lost again. With several outstanding goalies why would Clark get passed over in favor of a kid who played 3 games this year in the Q and 2 games in the MHL TOTAL, AND who lost game one?

Doef Family Fundraiser

In addition to the Friday night fundraiser, why don't the Bears put a link on their website for contributions? The Woodstock Slammers announced a while back that they have a link on their website to contribute to the family of one of their players who was diagnosed with cancer. I don't know the family but their expenses in travel and elsewise will be immense.

It has hard to second guess Marty Abrams on goal tending. He has stopped a few pucks in his time. He knows goalies.

Apparently Mason Dixon out played Adrian Clarke in camp. You cannot say that goal tending was the issue in game one or in game two. Mason Dixon was the MVP in game two.

That being said, hopefully Adrian Clarke gets to show his stuff in the quarter final game. Remember, Clarke is the back up to the best team in the league. It will be interesting to see how he handles the skill and pressure of some of the best Jr. A players.

"Put me in coach"

Apparently, a trust has been set up at the Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS).

All one has to do is walk into any BNS and ask for the "Doef family trust".

I am in for $100. Anyone else ??? It is the right thing to do.

Very VERY sad news about Doef. Kid had a bright hockey future at Princeton.

Also a very big blow to SF this season.

Not that either of those things matter right now. Thoughts and prayers, hope he recovers fully.

Mason Dixon was MVP of game 2 but screwed it up with 91 seconds to play!

Very average goalie in my opinion. I wonder how he got there!

FYI- Mann-Dixon.

Blade is the real deal at the Junior A level. He played on an expansion franchise last year, did extremely well, and got rookie of the year honours at 16 years old. Not dissing Adrian Clark, but my grandmother could post his numbers on that team.

And he's 5'7" to boot.

Mann-Dixon is chosen has game MVP again, this time, making 38 saves to lead Canada East to a 4-2 upset win over Canada West. The right goalie is in nets for sure. I watched the entire game, and he did make some miraculous saves.

Average ? I don't know what tournament you have been watching.

It was unfortunate when CE went up 2-1 in the Q finals with 5 minutes to play that they did not hold the lead. It was the team that did not hold the lead. Not Mason-Dixon. They got to the Semis nonetheless and that is what is important.

It would have been VERY interesting to see Adrian Clark between the pipes. However, it appears he may not get that chance. The coach will likely roll with the east coast net minder.

GO CANADA EAST GO !!!!

Many goalies could do well given the opportunity! There isn't a large gap between the top 10 jrA goalies in Canada East

I may be wrong but now with pay-to-play, it is now players paying for others to go... So what is the goal of the World junior A championship ? NCAA visibility? PRO visibility?

Kudos to Jason Clark for donating t-shirts in support of Neil Doef. It really is just one big hockey family and that is all that matters.

Goalies don't have to make miraculous saves, they have to make key saves!

Agree. Why in the world would Clark NEVER play out there? Someone's got the inside tract out there, tonight's game is a travesty, 5 goals in the first period alone. So one goalie goes 1-3, gets absolutely lit up in the US game, and BIG DEAL the only win is against the OTHER Canadian team. That sure accomplished a lot in developing Canadian goalies (NOT).

I am with you. No goalie should be allowed to stay in the net with 5 goals in one period. The team gives up AND the goalie's confidence is finished.

Bad coaching decision. Perhaps Clarke has p@ssed in someone's cornflakes.

We will see tonight who plays ?

However, I don't agree about beating Canada West in the Q final. When was the last time that happened ? Never. It was a big deal.

That's another classy move by Mr. Clarke. I hope the rest of the CCHL will join him. That family has enough to worry about without trying to find the money to help Neil. Our prayers go out for them all.
