SF should move one of them for value and pick up someone like Hertz at Nepean. A good young goalie with lots of upside, he's been to the USHL, Steelheads training camp and is crowded out at the Raiders and hasn't played badly. A good backup to either.

What started that debacle was an undisciplined Ranger mugging a 16yr old 135lb Grad and delivering several barefisted haymakers before someone came to the rescue......that resulted in a seven minute powerplau for Cumberland.....then the Ranger bench added to the problem as did other undisciplined play

It could end up biting the Bears in the end. Skinner wanted out of Kanata for increased exposure to an NCAA commitment. If he plays well enough to make Pinios tradeable, that could lead to his commitment and he could be out of there by year end. Right now, his play hasn't been strong enough to lead to that. But definitely, it could be a possible scenario where the Bears have no goalies for the start of next season.

If Pinios grabs the reins again, that could bury Skinner with less starts and exposure. The Bears are all about winning and making the play-offs. They won't move Pinios if he is showing he's the better goalie. In that case, they'll have an under-exposed and under-utilized over-age goalie in Skinner, to start the season next year.

Head over to an Almonte Thunder JrB game and you will see the future of SF goaltending. That would be 16 year old Matt Dods. He is playing lights out hockey at the JrB level early this season.

After watching the showcase, this is what I think the standings will end up like:

1.) Pembroke - Was really impressed with Dauda, Nellis, du Puy, and Tackett.

2.) Carleton Place - Seems like they lost a lot from last season but with Sturtz, Baylis, and Garvey they remain a contender. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pefley have a breakout season. Owen Grant really impressed for a rookie.

3.) Cornwall - Didn't think they were going to be as good as they were. I'd expect them to add a few more key acquisitions before they host the FPC.

4.) Kemptville - Probably have the best depth throughout their line-up in the league. Not entirely sold on their goaltending but both of them played well.

5.) Hawkesbury - Greatly improved from last season. Really like the new additions. Potter in goal really impressed me. Same with Tecce on defense.

6.) Ottawa - One of the best goaltending duos in the league. Had trouble producing offense but I don't see that being a problem in the long run.

7.) Brockville - Lack a true first line. All four lines are able to produce though and play a very 'in your face' game. Peski and Israel are one of the best d-pairings in the league.

8.) Nepean - Seem pretty average to me. It's still early and I expect them to add some players throughout the year. Wish they had more local kids.

9.) Cumberland - With a new head coach they finally seem to be getting better. A lot to be excited about with the Grads.

10.) Smith Falls - Great goaltending and added some pretty good forwards. Besides Duhaime their D is atrocious. Will get eaten alive in the Robinson division unless they improve drastically.

11.) Gloucester - Definitely one of the most exciting teams to watch. Kuffner, Foget, and Fallon are dynamite. Besides that they really have no secondary scoring. Really like Richer and Johnston in goal. Could surprise a lot of people but I just think other teams are stronger at this point.

12.) Kanata - Just terrible. I really liked Thomson on defense though and Johnston is a very good player. Couldn't generate any offense.

Care to revise theses picks at this point in the season? CP is not going to lose the top spot IMO.

I have been reading all these posts about how great Gregg Kennedy is...From what I have seen he doesn't even show up in Kanata. If you are a good coach and have been given the head coaching job then show up. Leave the minor hockey team you are coaching and give 100% to the Lasers. Where is the coaches committment? I feel for the players and the assistant coaches. There need to be consistency and Kennedy is not showing any example of that.
Management made another bad move, unfortunatley.
Kennedy step up or step aside.......................

It's not Kennedy's fault or decision to make. Management was obviously ok with him continuing with his minor hockey gigs. It's up to management to step up and hire a coach that is 100% committed to turning this team around.

The commitment machine keeps rolling along in CP. Owen Grant commits to Vermont for 2017-2018. This makes the 8th player on the roster to commit to a University. Looks like JC is on his way to being the leader in the league for commitments again this year.

As for the 73's they will struggle to stay in 10th place. They lost 13-1 over two games this weekend to CP. Key players out , maybe, but someone said this year that they have depth. Must be a shallow pool. Even the coach took a bench minor Friday. I really hope he didn't use foul language in front of the kids in attendance!

From what I hear around the rinks - he was to leave his minor hockey gig. I agree that they need someone 100% committed and I also believe they realize they made a mistake with kennedy. Like I said before I feel for the players and the assistant coaches.

Management is looking for a "yes" man and while there are a lot of those out there, there probably aren't many that would make good coaches.

Kanata Coaching

I have heard that the coach they really want is still running a Jr.B team and has told them not to even dicuss it with him until after the Jr B season is over. Draw your own conclusions.
Even if you want to question his commitment, you can not question Kennedy's abilities as a teacher to young players. I think management in Kanata was hoping to get a year of basics teaching then hand the reigns over to another coach when the team was ready for the next step.

I'm sorry but there are no JrB coaches out there that should be at the JrA level

I totally disagree on this point. I don't know a lot of Jr. B coaches but Mike Ruest from the Casselman Vikings ??? He was a Jr. A coach in the CCHL and a good one for a number of years. There is no doubt that Mike was handed a lot assets and resources last season but he is proven to be a very effective Jr. B coach. And you should be sorry !

Okay I'm sorry...

What I should have said is this league needs fresh faces and ideas.

Look at the success Ottawa is having, they're rejuvenated.

Ruest has had plenty of success, however the game is changing.

Mike Ruest was a very average coach at the Junior A level. He'll be the first to tell you. Ottawa didn't have a lot of succes with him at the helm. He left Junior A hockey because he felt the game was moving too fast for him. He also didn't have the time to fully commit to his team. He is, however, the perfect head coach for a Junior B team.

Ottawa has done much better with Rick Dorval as head coach, and now that he's gone, they are still near the top with a completely new group of coaches, and players. And again, we're talking about a very young coaching staff for this level. So I have to agree with 417 hockey here, bringing in new faces and new ideas is the way to go if you want to have success in this league, unless you can get a Jason Clarke, Ian MacInnis, or Peter Goulet somewhere, but these guys are a rare breed.
