Tyrer says Saturday's scrimmage after 11am will be streamed. Since they're doing that one could infer that Sunday's game at NWA will be streamed as well but we'll see. The game in Pittsburgh won't be aired by SportsNet Pittsburgh so my expectation is at best we will get another "jumbotron" feed from that game, which was the case with most preseason games last year.

Cant find the link for todays scrimmage on columbus website, Please help!!! Only 45 min to puck drop..

Went to the open practice this morning. Pretty good attendance. Clippers 5k run was ending around the time CBJ fans were arriving in the area.

Laine & Fantilli definitely had noticeable chemistry and stood out frequently.

Malatesta stood out as a puck hound, pretty aggressive trying to gain possession of the puck.

i am wildly curious to hear what your starting 18 (19 with a goalie) would be

From September 10th
I think Babcock will hate Roslovic and love Danforth. IMO, when healthy, there’s no way Danforth should be out of the lineup and Kuraly/Roslovic or even Robinson should be in. And to be frank, I put Foudy in over all of them, at center or wing, and Babcock probably loves him also. The contracts/cap hits of Kuraly and Roslovic are brutal. Much worse than Gudbranson who actually brings something.

Gaudreau - Jenner - Fantilli/Texier

Laine - Johnson - Texier/Fantilli

Chinakhov - Foudy - Marchenko

Voronkov - Danforth - Bemstrom/Robinson (Olivier)

Sillinger (starts at least) in the AHL. Not seen enough of McKown. My Meyer hype has died down.

I still look to trade/waive both Roslovic/Kuraly, the “hometown guy” thing IS a legitimate problem in regards to these guys, IMO. At all the golf outings. They suck.

Without seeing the D recently I’d probably prefer to go:

Werenski - Provorov

Bean - Severson

Boqvist - Gudbranson

Blankenburg/Peeke

I think Mateychuk is better than Jiricek.

Jet Greaves - Tarasov/Merzlikins

Who was the D that dove down? Jiricek?
Yup.

I didn't feel there were much intensity in the scrimmage, maybe players were tired since it was last on-ice session of the day. Anyway I hope to see more effort in tomorrow's games.

Laine and Werenski looked comfortable carrying pucks and making plays compared to rest.

Butler left scrimmage after colliding awkwardly with Kuraly, I wonder if he'll play tomorrow.

At practice today. First day so I won't say much as I didn't see every player:

Sillinger looked quicker today and I'm not talking about Owen. Good sign hope that continues.
Fantilli is a lock to make this team. Thats probably not a surprise but who would have called the chemistry he has with Laine and not just on the ice. Those two with Texier were fun to watch today.
Speaking of........boy it was nice to see Texier and Werenski out there again. With a little health luck and the new defensive additions this team should look much better this season.

I was at the scrimmage this morning and here are a few items if note.

Fantilli and Laine looked really comfortable. After the 1st shift Texier started to get into the flow and was dangerous at the end. That looks like a very good line if they keep them together.

Werenski and Provorov looked like a cut above the rest with passing, puck handling and just turning guys inside out.

Blankenburg had a lof of great reads and walked a couple into the crease. His passing was very precise and skating was excellent (edges and speed). He is going to be hard to keep him out of line up.

Jiricek looked good but nothing spectacular Laine pinned him and stripped him.

Sillinger looked quicker but missed 3 times on a wide open net. They were high and wayyyy outside. His brother Owen looked as good.

Roslovic, Bemstrom and Foudy were good but nothing special.

Malatesta and Dunne were both dogs with a bone.

Other than that some players had moments but nothing consistent.

Bean is injured and cannot start camp

Right, I see that, what happened??

It was pretty much a what I would prefer when “fully healthy” type scenario. There will almost certainly be another injury or 2 before the preseason is over.

How I see the roster going into preseason...

Forward

Locks (7): Gaudreau, Jenner, Laine, Johnson, Fantilli, Texier, Kuraly
Likely (3): Robinson, Danforth, Roslovic
Bubble (4): Sillinger, Foudy, Bemstrom, Voronkov
AHL/Junior Likely: Dumais, McKown, TFW, Malatesta, Dunne, Meyer, LDBB
Injured (2): Chinakhov (Bubble), Olivier (Bubble), Marchenko (Likely)

The locks are obvious. No sense talking about it.

I had Marchenko and Roslovic as locks at first, but Marchenko's injury opens up the door for a Bemstrom or Voronkov to come steal his spot. It won't be in the same scoring role, but they have a lot of "scoring" forwards. I still think he makes it though because of how well he played last year. I also think Robinson makes the team, but you never know.

The bubble guys are true toss ups. I was tempted to throw Dumais in there but I just think the odds are too long, but if Marchenko misses a lot of time, that helps his cause. The injuries to Olivier and Chinakhov (also bubble guys when healthy) buys some time for say a Bemstrom or Foudy to not get waived. But the time will come eventually when the team has to make a decision. Personally, I think Chinakhov and Voronkov to to Cleveland together. And all three of Sillinger, Foudy, and Bemstrom make the team out of camp. When Olivier returns from injury, Bemstrom gets waived.

Gaudreau-Jenner-Johnson
Texier-Fantilli-Laine
Sillinger-Danforth-Marchenko
Robinson-Kuraly-Roslovic
Foudy, Bemstrom

Defense:

Locks (6): Werenski, Boqvist, Peeke, Severson, Provorov, Gudbranson
Bubble (6): Blankenburg, Jiricek, Mateychuk, Svozil, Berni, Christiansen
AHL/Junior Likely: Sweezey, Ceulemans, Bjork, Knazko
Injured: Bean (Bubble)

Pretty simple, all the 6 starting slots are taken. The question is what pair do they play on and who do they play with. Its an imbalance of righties and lefties, but does that matter to Vincent? If it does, that really helps out a Mateychuk, Svozil, Berni, or Christiansen and hurts Blankenburg and Jiricek. I personally think Blankenburg gets the final D slot. Jiricek, Svozil, Berni, and Christiansen to go the minors with Mateychuk going back to Moose Jaw unless they get an exemption. Once Bean returns, he likely goes to the AHL for a conditioning stint (and to buy time) and whoever wins the #7 D job out of camp goes to Cleveland once thats done. You know, until Boqvist gets his yearly injury.

Werenski-Peeke
Provorov-Severson
Boqvist-Gudbranson
Blankenburg

Goalies:

Locks (1): Merzlikins
Bubble (2): Dell, Greaves
AHL/Junior Likely: Cajan, Lalonde
Injured: Tarasov (Lock)

The injury to Tarsov opens the door for both Dell and Greaves to be the opening day backup. Personally, I think it would likely be Dell (assuming we actually sign him out of camp, which I think we do) just so Greaves gets AHL time. But if Tarasov is healthy, it will be his spot to take. I assume we sign Dell and he is Greaves' AHL backup. The other two goalies rotate in Cleveland and the ECHL.

Merzlikins
Tarasov/Dell/Greaves

I'll be honest, Gaudreau is going to play with Fantilli regardless of Adam's possible excellent chemistry with Laine. Because Johnny (in this case I hope Laine wouldn't play in this line).

Further, Jenner will be playing in the top 6. And since Boone would love to play center, he'll play it.
I'll be happy to be wrong but certain players have their positions.

P.S. I doubt Marchenko is bubble. Also Roslovic could be traded.
