I am not trying to throw cold water on the Dumais excitement, I hope we have found a sleeper as much as anyone else. I will also admit I have never seen him play but let's keep reminding ourselves that offensive production in the CHL does not necessarily equate to NHL success.

Where is Vitalii Abramov now? 129 Goals and 301 Points in 185 Games, I think he led the Q in scoring two years in a row or was top two or three each year. Now...15 Goals and 27 Points in 66 KHL games over the past 1 1/2 seasons.

Just gotta sell high then if it starts to look like there won't be so bright future for him in Columbus. Attach him to a package deal with which we can afford an impact player for example, could be part of something similar to Abramov+++ for Duchene in 2019.

Exactly.

Like I said on the prospects board, people look at CHL statistics and get way too excited. Look at the top 4 scoring leaders in the QMJHL. 3 of them aren't even NHL drafted while the NHL 1st round picks aren't even top 20. There is more about the game than statistics. Dumais is an exciting prospects but he has a lot of things in his game to improve to make it at the NHL level.

I remember one game against Quebec last season. He had 4 points in a 13-5 loss. When you only look at the statistics, you get excited because he got 1 goal and 3 assists but in reality, he was a no show for most of the game against a top team. He added points on the many PPs at the end of the game when the score was 11-2.

To me this kind of works to the point I was making in the prospect page about the potential of him playing against men. He's a skilled enough point producer he can have a bad game and have 4 points. I dont think the option of having him somewhere the points are harder to come by and challenge him in a different way is a bad thing

You just think about the points in the league and not his game as a whole. That's my point, no pun intended. :)

When it got tough in the playoffs and against the top teams last season, the points weren't coming as easily and he couldn't put the team on his back (which is quite normal for a 17 yo). That's why I think he can still improve his game at the CHL level. He'll have a good chance of doing that with Halifax this year and go far in the playoffs.

Btw do you think there's a good chance Halifax wins Q this season? I'd be thrilled to see him at Memorial Cup, in my dream scenario Halifax (or Quebec if not them) would battle against Mississauga and Moose Jaw + the host city Kamloops.

I don't know what are Halifax' plans but they sure have ways to get a lot stronger this season. They might have to add some experience though, they're still pretty young. Maybe they want to wait for next year but why wait?

Right now the top 3 teams in the QMJHL are Quebec, Sherbrooke and Gatineau. Halifax is very close but like I said, they might have to add some older players. They only have one overager (20 yo) while top teams usually have three.

Patrick Roy thinks James Malatesta deserve an invite to Team Canada's camp.

"He's got a big start to the season and I hope the folks at Hockey Canada are watching him. The way he's playing right now, he deserves at least an invitation to camp for the World Junior Hockey Championship. I'm happy with what I see from him. He is an intense guy who works hard. I spoke with people from the Blue Jackets and James is one of those who came in with the right mentality, he was ready when he came back here,” Roy said.

Malatesta says signing a contract with Columbus and winning with the Remparts motivate him.

“I try not to think about it too much. I want to play and have fun and keep going. This year, I am playing for a contract and to win a championship with the Remparts. I play for a lot. I'm really motivated and I think it shows on the ice."

The CHL also posted an interview with him :

Amazing game again from Dumais. Constantin and Rob Sense would probably say that points does not matter and we have not seen him on the ice tonight. Well, if i’m Halifax I take the 2 points and the two goals and if I’m Columbus, i’ll take that prospect for now until he proves me wrong. I definitely saw him on the ice tonight and he is the only one i saw besides Vidicek and younger Cataford.

Wonder where Dumais would have been drafted if he were 3 inches taller and 20lbs heavier.

As a side note I just got some tickets for the Pats/Silvertips game tomorrow. Get to take my son to his first live game and see a pretty exciting list of players like Bedard, Svozil, Howe and Zellweger.

1st live viewing of Svozil and he looks good. Standing up at the blueline, strength looks good, atleast against his peers. He has no panic, walked a guy in the offensive and set up what should have been a tap in but buddy missed the redirect.
1 not really surprising thing is he doesnt run the PP. Everyone just defers to Bedard all PP and the defense plays accordingly. Its fun for Bedard and his stats but not an ideal strategy.

What’s the latest on voronkov? Not much production this year. Is the plan for him to come to NA next season?
