You're correct, but age does matter to me in these exercises. It's not a list of "most developed/talented CBJ prospects at the age of 18-19". Voronkov has actually taken some steps in physical development and played with men in KHL and at the Olympics as top-6 center without looking out of place. Nothing is a guarantee but I think that is an indication of some NHL potential.Voronkov is about to turn 22, DBB about to turn 19, and at 19 is much much further along than Voronkov in terms of actual skill development. Your percentages are biased due to age IMO.
I guess we just look at the question differently. For example, I think Marchenko is much closer to being NHL ready than Ceulemans, however I believe Ceulemans has a higher ceiling and is a better prospect; so I rated him higher. You're correct, but age does matter to me in these exercises. Right now DBB seems to be further away from NHL and has more to prove than Voronkov. He's still just an OHL kid who as his team's 1C got outscored by 5 of his teammates in the playoffs.
Btw he's looked very promising in these summer camp scrimmages. IMO best playmaker of either Team Can squad. Seemed to win faceoffs at a good rate as well, even against Mississauga's Owen Beck who was the top faceoff man in the OHL last year, iirc. Someone on the tournament board (who might have watched more of his OHL games and is a better skating evaluator than me) said he already looks a bit faster than some time ago.
He had one assist in yesterday's scrimmage:
Hurrah!I guess we just look at the question differently.
Right, Ceulemans got an assist on Tristan Luneau's goal it seems. As you mentioned Del Bel Belluz had an assist. Ceulemans had an assist as well
Bader's reputation is decidedly mixed, but, hey, I wouldn't complain if he happened to get this one right. This is pretty eye popping
Is this Russia's way of having an internal tourney since almost no other country will play with them right now?
This guy always ascribes Mateychuk's good offensive results/output to him just being "confident" since he isn't crazy skilled nor a crazy good skater. Why is he so good at passing? Why does he have such a good sense for when to attack? Why does he have this confidence?????? By random chance? He just thinks he's good so he does well?
It's so strange hearing someone describe a player while not mentioning his best attribute, being Mateychuk's tactical understanding of hockey, mental map of the ice, decision making, his overall feel for the game and all the other phrases people use in place of "hockey IQ". It's like hearing someone describe Laine without mentioning his shot, or saying a guy like Makar "has the confidence to get to places on the ice and therefore does so" without saying he's confident in his ability to get around because he's a freakish skater.
Hurrah!
Call me crazy, but I’m thinking we should collectively have a thing where we all weigh in on prospect rankings in a way that takes all of those various (and valid) ways of looking at them into account.
I dream of a chart that shows the floor and probability of reaching it vs the ceiling and probability of reaching it
No let's make the whole thing a probability density curve. Yes yes yes
I found myself skipping around his videos in order to look at the tracked data for guys at the least. I don't really want to pile on more but I found myself disagreeing with his views on a lot of this class.I'd put Scouch right up there with Bader as the worst charlatans in the scouting community.

Also have to add a "what do I know" disclaimer. I'm very green with all this stuff.

We are very high on him. If he were in the board prospect vote, he’d be in the top 2 with Johnson, with Jiricek finishing third. Where would he go in a redraft? Most of guys ahead of him looked pretty good - Beniers, McTavish, etc. My guess is he moves up to about 8 on a redraft.Hey, ARI fan coming in peace. Was curious how you guys feel about Cole Sillinger in relation to your other "prospects". I know that he played this season in the NHL and looked pretty good, and has therefore graduated from being a prospect, but he's so young still - where would you place him potential wise on your ranking list, knowing what you do now? Do you view other players pushing down as a center like Texier and Johnson? Do you think he would go higher in a re-draft? Is he a top 5 young player for you? Top 10? Top 3?
In terms of just the potential ceiling I'd put him 3rd behind Jiricek and Johnson. From what I've read, Mateychuk could also be up there, but I havent seen enough of him to have an opinion.Hey, ARI fan coming in peace. If he’s still ranked as a “prospect” I’d probably have him second. Narrowly. Johnson is making it hard to keep him at #1.Hey, ARI fan coming in peace.
