Okay, you had him 16th but making the roster. You didn't say which year. I assume it was this year, but okay. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. I was going on the majority opinion, which was how the rank was developed. You were correct on one of your disagreements with the majority opinion.

.

Here's a more specific post, also from June:

Bjorkstrand, Anderson, and Werenski I would be shocked if they don't make the 23 man roster. Rychel, I'm not sure about. If Puljujarvi is ready he could get leapt.

Sedlak and Kukan I'm not sure about. I think Kukan stays down but they'll keep Sedlak as a depth forward.

I voted 4. Bjorkstrand, Anderson, and Werenski, and Sedlak.

The reason Sedlak was still only 16th on my prospect list despite my expectation that he'd be on the team is because I more heavily weigh guys with top 6 upside. A 4th line C just isn't valuable enough. But then again I also didn't expect him to be quite this good, or for there to be a 4th line that was this pivotal to team success. That's such a nice surprise.

How long should we wait before we review such a list? I'm not angry - just wondering. I re-posted it about 120 days after we finished the exercise. I thought it was fascinating to see how the prospects were performing compared to how we ranked them.

Maybe I should not have added the comment/hyperbole.

I certainly don't care to wait! You can rank and re-rank them as many times as you want. Just know that none of the lists are going to be definitive until a good 10 years out.

All this talk about Sedlak, I did not see him making the CBJ this year but have been very pleasantly surprised. Now that I have seen more of him I can't help but think he could leapfrog Karlsson by next year. I like Karlsson but his <45% Face-off Percentage is a pathetic joke...especially when you consider he's regressing.

Someone mentioned Kolesar...and no question he's been a statistical disappointment this year but his numbers are better of late (4 Gs and 12 Pts in 9 Games).

I don't. He isn't better than him. Face offs, while beneficial at certain times, are overrated.

I don't mind the numbers that much.

What makes me somewhat pessimistic is that he lacks what scouts would call a "projectable frame", meaning he doesn't cover a lot of ice with his reach. I didn't notice until camp.

Strong as hell though, if he can improve his skating, he could be a little wrecking ball.

I agree about faceoffs. I'd say Sedlak has been the better player over the last month. It's a bit hard to tell, normally Karlsson gets harder zone starts and matchups than Sedlak does. Sedlak is also not as diligent defensively. I do like Sedlak's toughness though. He's stocky and likes to hit.

How can we predict which one will be better? They're the same age.

Ho-hum, just another multi-point, first star performance by Dubois. He now has more points in 12 games with his new team than he did in 20 with his previous one.

Hi guys, Leaf fan in peace.

Noticed that Harrington has gotten some games in. How has he looked?

I think he has looked serviceable as a bottom pairing defender. Way better than Prout. Haven't noticed anything too egregious. No complaints with him. He will be back out of the lineup once Savard is back. He's going to be the 7th Dman going forward. Prout it 8

Harrington > Nutivaara IMO.

He's had far fewer turnovers, and despite Nuti's reputation, Harrington has been the better passer and looks like the faster skater at times. And of course he is a lot stronger and more responsible.

seems like most people agree with that top 5 - anyone beyond this that's pushing to crack that group?

FWIW here is the top 20 as voted last preseason. Fully democratic, which has its benefits and faults, so take the list with whatever grain of salt you feel is appropriate.

2016
Rank|Player|Position
#1|Zach Werenski|D
#2|Pierre-Luc Dubois|LW
#3|Oliver Bjorkstrand|RW
#4|Joonas Korpisalo|G
#5|Sonny Milano|LW
#6|Josh Anderson|RW
#7|Gabriel Carlsson|D
#8|Anton Forsberg|G
#9|Vitaly Abramov|RW
#10|Paul Bittner|LW
#11|Keegan Kolesar|RW
#12|Daniel Zaar|RW
#13|Dean Kukan|D
#14|Markus Nutivaara|D
#15|Vladislav Gavrikov|D
#16|Elvis Merzlikins|G
#17|Dillon Heatherington|D
#18|Andrew Peeke|D
#19|Veeti Vainio|D
#20|Markus Hannikainen|LW
Bittner would be the one guy with the kind of upside we'd hope could crack the top of the list, but he hasn't really shown what we'd hope. Personally, Kolesar and Peeke are a couple guys I could see moving up but no I don't see them ready to crack that top 5.

High end? Abramov is #1 for me.

I'm not saying he won't, because anything is possible, but all of the odds are stacked against him. And it's gonna take A LOT of work on his part. For me PLD is the easy #1. He's got the size, SPEED, strength and IQ. He just needs to play against grown men on the regular.

Where as Abramovs size could be a HUGE limiting factor in the NHL. Once he shows he can blow by grown men and can still put up a ton of goals when everyone is older, stronger and quicker then I'll hop on the believetrain. That's not to say I'm not a fan because I am. I just think PLD is more likely to go reach his high end potential than Abramov is.

We weren't talking about who is more likely, we were talking about whose high end was highest.

I would take PLD 10 outta 10 times over Abramov.

BUT...if Abramov hits his 100% potential, I think that's a guy that could lead the NHL in scoring. I don't see PLD as that kinda guy.
