“Ohio: Most of the People Who Live Here Just Haven’t Bothered to Move”

I like it here. I came for school, met a nice girl from here and stayed. We have a good life. I suspect the only thing that would cause us to move is if our daughter moved to another part of the country and had a family and we wanted to be closer to the grandkids.

Born and raised in Ohio. Been in Cbus since 1994.
Like a lot of folks (especially this time of the year) I wonder why I live in Ohio. I'm not a Florida guy but will likely be further South (Carolinas) within 10 years and then likely spend more time in Summer (May-September) on Lake Erie.
Ohio is nice, people are friendly, but at some point I'd rather the winter be a little more mild.
Have you seen some of the weather reports from the Carolinas lately? It has been mild here compared to what they've gotten the last couple days... ;)

Carolina girl here - we’re getting snow tonight and have had it the last two weekends and it sucks. I would never live in Ohio again after the (normal) weather I get here. Not to mention that I can be at either the beach or the mountains within a couple of hours. I spent 35 years in Ohio and wish I’d moved sooner.

Oh yeah depends on where in the state. Two weekends ago we actually mostly had ice. Last weekend and tonight are snow. Nothing major but would shut us down if were during the week.

Columbus, Ohio
I moved to Columbus in 1998 from Metro Detroit. I've loved my time here and if my daughter would move here I would be happy to stay here. Since that won't happen I will be moving back to Detroit within the next 2 or so years so I can be near her when I retire. Columbus has grown so much since I moved here and I hope it continues to prosper after I depart. One thing I'll never lose when I move back is the CBJ.

I like Eco and Dostoevsky. Never read any Bulgakov. A novel I really enjoyed was Great Apes by Will Self. Also, maybe check out Cormac McCarthy if you haven’t.
Thanks for Will Self. I didn't know him but he looks like a very good writer. I'm afraid Great Apes isn't here but I found The Quantity Theory of Insanity and still two in Czech translate (Slovak isn't). Try to find Russian translate.
I recommend Mikhail Bulgakov to you. I prefer The Master and Margarita but his other works are excelent too. Btw another interesting book is Han of Iceland by Victor Hugo. Not such known but very good like other his books. Although I prefer Russian authors. :)

Heh. My father solved that problem by ultimately talking my brother and sister into coming back here with the promise of watching over grandchildren regularly. :D (I never left.)

My biggest thing is the lack of sun from November to Mid-March in Ohio.
I played golf in NC the first weekend there and it was 60 degrees first day, 50 second and barely over freezing the 3rd but the sunshine made it feel much more bearable.
Yes they have got hit hard this season but most years they get one snow and it melts within 2 days.

Quarter-to-notquitehalf inch of freezing rain now seems to be the latest prediction.

And while I'm here, here's the one and only weather Youtuber I find helpful (because he doesn't just say "this is what will happen" and pretend everything is fine when wrong; he shows the models and describes what the probabilities are) with his latest update on the coming snow/icepocalypse:

Man, I don't mean to be a jagoff but I'm not watching 15 minutes of that.

Is the freezing rain followed by snow or not and, if so, how much? And when is it coming?

Hyperion chooses Columbus for headquarters location | NBC4 WCMH-TV

(WCMH) — The technology job boom for central Ohio is getting bigger.

Hyperion Inc., a hydrogen electric technology and transportation company, is scheduled to announce Tuesday that it will be bringing its global headquarters to the Columbus area.

A release from Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther’s office says the company will create nearly 700 research and development, engineering, design and manufacturing jobs to the area, and will be the largest manufacturing project in the city limits in a decade.

.......what do they make exactly?

Wow.

Is it a trendy or widely used word? This is very random but I always associate jagoff with one of Conan's former writers (and his characters) when I hear someone say it:

It is neither trendy nor widely used, although it is traditional slang in Pittsburgh (where I’m from) and to a slightly lesser extent, Chicago. I was feeling my inner yinzer I guess.

Is the "Pittsburgh left" still a thing? Or even a real thing?
