We will lose but be complimented on how nice and competitive our bid was. We’ll feel good about ourselves for being in the running.

Yes, but when it is something really big (Apple complex, Amazon 2nd headquarters, etc.) we seem to be the bridesmaid.

Yea, so, I'm personally not going to get excited about a future high tech factory until I drive by it because if it's announced that doesn't mean it's getting built.

I hope it is legit, but maybe I have just seen that Simpsons monorail episode one too many times.

I've sold monorails to Brockway, Ogdenville, and North Haverbrook, and, by gum, it put them on the map!

Phil Hartman was the best.

The Most Neighborly Cities In The U.S. | StorageCafe

Top-10-Neighborly-Cities.jpg

Looking specifically at neighbor satisfaction, Columbus locals are the happiest, based on their self-reporting. Additionally, local neighborhoods seem to be united by a local desire to be involved and help out others in need, as 54% of Columbus residents claim they enjoy a strong sense of community. A great majority of Columbus residents report being involved in the neighborly act of giving, whether they volunteer or donate to charity.

People in Columbus take pride in their communities and wholeheartedly recommend living in their city – further proof of the Midwestern-nice atmosphere that’s prevalent here.
Of the Columbus respondents that declared they wish to move, Baby Boomers make up the largest chunk of potential movers. They cite the changes in family composition or downsizing as the main reasons for moving.

Intel to Invest at Least $20 Billion in New Chip Factories in Ohio

Intel has selected Ohio for a new chip manufacturing complex that would cost at least $20 billion, ramping up an effort to increase U.S. production of computer chips as users grapple with a lingering shortage of the vital components.

Intel said Friday that the new site near Columbus would initially have two chip factories and would directly employ 3,000 people, while creating additional jobs in construction and at nearby businesses.

Patrick Gelsinger, who became Intel’s chief executive last year, has rapidly increased the company’s investments in manufacturing to help reduce U.S. reliance on foreign chip makers while lobbying Congress to pass incentives aimed at increasing domestic chip production. He has said that Intel might invest as much as $100 billion over a decade in its next U.S. manufacturing campus, linking the scope and speed of that expansion to expected federal grants if Congress approves a spending package known as the CHIPS Act.

“We will go bigger and broader if it gets funded,” Mr. Gelsinger, 60, said in a recent interview. “But our recovery plans don’t rely on the CHIPS act.”

Thinking of the CBJ impact:

Intel would be the best helmet sponsor - an Intel inside helmet sticker would be great.

Free microchips if the Jackets score 3 goals. We could replace the chili chant. The whole arena could start yelling “microchips” after the 3rd goal.

Werenski could start doing Intel commercials. (The nightmare scenario is Jeff Rimer doing Intel commercials.)

UFAs with wives or girlfriends with experience in semiconductor manufacturing might be more willing to sign with the Jackets.

'Silicon Heartland:' Intel announces $20 billion investment in Ohio

A news release from the governor’s office said the project will generate more than 20,000 jobs in the state, including 3,000 Intel jobs with an average salary of $135,000 and 7,000 construction jobs. The project is expected to add $2.8 billion to Ohio’s annual gross state product.

It’s part of a plan to expand chip manufacturing in the United States and will reshape a large section of Jersey Township on land being annexed into New Albany. The plan is being referred to as a “Silicon Heartland” to complement California’s Silicon Valley.

“Intel is bringing leading capability and capacity back to the United States to strengthen the global semiconductor industry,” Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said in a news release. “These factories will create a new epicenter for advanced chipmaking in the U.S. that will bolster Intel’s domestic lab-to-fab pipeline and strengthen Ohio’s leadership in research and high tech.”

And when the team isn't doing well we'd have plenty of nerdy jokes about rounding errors, failed overclocks, and general overheating and power management problems ready to go.

I love to read so can I ask you how books do you like and can recommend? If me I recommend Fyodor Dostoevsky, Mikhail Bulgakov and Umberto Eco if writers of novels.

I like Eco and Dostoevsky. Never read any Bulgakov. A novel I really enjoyed was Great Apes by Will Self. Also, maybe check out Cormac McCarthy if you haven’t.

I moved here 14 years ago and will stay until I retire, most likely.

ETA: I never would have moved from the bay area if the cost of living was the same, but I just Zillow'd and a similar place to the one I just bought downtown goes from $1.1 million to $2.9 million in San Francisco.

Over 3x to over 9X what I paid.

A home in the suburbs similar to the one I was looking at is 3X to 6X what they go for here in an area like Clintonville or UA.

I was paying more for rent in Pleasanton, CA (complex was owned by John Madden, BTW) in 1995 that I was in downtown Columbus up until 2015.

The wife and I can’t find anyplace we’d both rather live than Columbus. So this is the compromise. We have kids and we don’t hate our jobs, so Columbus is a pretty good place for us.

Well, after years of lobbying work and the like by my father, pretty much everybody in the family is here (my brother and sister and their families, my brother's in-laws, my parents, most of their siblings, my remaining grandparent), so I ain't leavin'.

Born and raised in Ohio. Been in Cbus since 1994.
Like a lot of folks (especially this time of the year) I wonder why I live in Ohio. I'm not a Florida guy but will likely be further South (Carolinas) within 10 years and then likely spend more time in Summer (May-September) on Lake Erie.
Ohio is nice, people are friendly, but at some point I'd rather the winter be a little more mild.
