Exactly.

Fletcher and Co. were delusional enough to think they could pull off a good season and save their jobs. The time for these moves were last off season, but that was never going to happen...

We'll see where all this goes. Hopefully the full rebuild has actually really begun this time.

We thought we might get a 5th for Walker. Spence and Roy were the ones we valued way higher. Some fans were willing to give up a pick to dump Walker

Grans regressed. Our fan @Sol was obsessed with him but the majority of fans thought he was trade bait. He was a boom or bust ex 2nd rounder that regressed this year. He has size but slow feet.

The Kings save 5 mil on Peterson, 2.65 on Walker and take on just over 2 mil on Provorov. So we gain 5.5 mil cap space for basically a 2nd round pick and Grans. Walker was not valued high
Who was I obsessed with? I don’t care about Grans and Walker. What are you talking about? My only anger is not with this trade in particular but the pattern of our recent trades. Blake has become far too reactionary and is making moves to save his ass. The kings are trading picks like candy and have nothing to show for it. That’s a huge problem. The Kings have won 6 play off games since the cup win. Now they are trading picks in a deep draft for issues created by Blake. The trade is fine but this takes the Kings no where yet again. Maybe you’re just obsessed with mediocrity.

In your head
CBJ got Provorov at 4.725M for a conditional 2nd.

LA gave a #22 pick and a 2nd round pick in 2024 to Brière, in order to get rid of Cal Petersen's contract, but took 30% of Provorov's contract.

I think it’s @Kurrilino that loves Grans

This is exactly what Columbus should be doing.
Adding a veteran Dman.

They have one of the best prospect pools in the league and have the 3rd overall pick.
Rebuild via draft part should be over
columbus just finished 30th in the league and their rebuilding through the draft should be over?

cant say i agree with that take.

I think that this is a trade all teams can walk away happy with.

I do lean towards Philadelphia being winners here getting quite a bit of future assets.

With that said, Philly is tanking a year too late, but if I were the sharks I would have found a way to get Cal and take a first rounder in the process.

I think the Kings paid too much to get rid of Petersen.
They need the cap space. Team is in a prime window and have to take advantage before Anaheim finally starts to succeed and Chicago finds their legs with Bedard.

I was laughed at by Kings fans for saying it would take at least 2 1sts to dump Petersen with 0 retention. Most Kings fans believed Blake when he said he would be on their NHL club next season and that the Kings don't want or need to dump him especially if it costs more than a 2nd LOL.

Kings just paid Sean Walker (Kings fans wanted a late 1st or 2nd+3rd for him) + Helge Grans (2nd round pick) + a 2nd round pick to dump him at 3M (retained 2.025 for 2 years on Provorov which would be the same as retaining 2.025M on Petersen's contract).

Thats essentially a 1st + 2x 2nd round pick value to dump 2.975M for 2 years of Petersen.

They must be seething right now
Not it wasn't. It only took (2) 2nds to move him without retention. Not a first. The retention was about the same as the Walker contract so that's a wash. It allows cap space for Gavrikov, Vilardi, Kupari, Bjornfot and a roster spot for Clarke. Also let's them keep all their forward depth. Just need to sign a cheap backup goalie.

Realistically, LA only lost Petersen, Grans and 2nd for AHL depth players and got to swap Walker for Clarke in the lineup for only $300,000 bump in cap.

Iafallo--Kopitar--Kempe
Moore--Danault--Arvidsson
Fiala--Byfield--Vilardi
Kupari--Lizotte--Kaliyev

Anderson--Doughty
Gavrikov--Clarke
Bjornfot--Roy

I stared at this for a long time trying to figure out why LA does it.

I had no idea Cal Peterson made that money.

it still doesn't make sense, Blake could have done some maneuvering by trading away Arvidsson, Walker, Durzi

instead of getting $2m back of Provorov's contract lol

as Peterson really has 1 bad year to be bought out, if you buy him out after this season, it's a completely reasonable caphit

we'll see what other "tricks" he has up his sleeve in the next few weeks, but Blake is trying to keep his job, that's the only angle that makes sense for now

LA’s first was traded in the Gavrikov deal. That pick is going to Philly via Columbus. The Kings are basically trading a 2nd and Grans to dump Petersen and Walker while taking on 30% of Provorov’s contract.

Povorov will fit right in in the middle of the bible belt.

We need to tank more than one year. It’s going to be a multiple year process.

5 1st round picks in the previous two years + already more young players than they can fit in the lineup. Too many young players and not enough vets to shelter them is a bad development situation.

Walker is a literal nothing player tho, dudes 28 averaging less than 15mins a game. Its really just 2 2nds to save 3m which prob isnt the worst thing ppl jave seen.

Columbus finished 30th because 3/4 of our D core was injured and we played with an AHL defense for 75% of the season. We were top 5 in man games lost this season, with key contributors out, starting with both our #1D for the entire season. At one point our entire top 4 was out and our #6 Dman(Gudbranson) was getting #1 minutes.

On top of all our our injuries on offense. There was 0 consistentcy and a rookie head coach leading the way.

The season before last, we finished as the first team in the east outside of the playoffs race and all we did was add Gaudreau and Gudbranson in the off-season.

This Columbus team should be at least in the hunt for the wildcard next season.

While true, they started their tank a year too late. Especially if they're trading Carter Hart. He may have been the difference between 8th and catching Montreal possibly.

Weird trade. I get it from Columbus and Phillys point of view. Seems a little eh for the Kings. I know they got cap room but they paid a lot to get 3mil of Peterson off the cap.
