This is such a weird trade. LA give up Walker and a D prospect to dump Petersen and retain on Provorov?

Columbus get a guy that may only stick around for 18 months (if he decides he won't re-sign) when they aren't really competing just yet.

Philly are the only ones to come out of this with some sort of sense and that's weird in itself.

That term is actually perfect for Columbus.

They have Mateychuk& Svozil as top4 LD prospects and if they struggle they have a chance at re-signing Provorov at 28

This feels like the Fletcher/Benning special. Make "aggressive" moves to try to save your job

Nice to see 3 teams I like make a deal, so Philly kicks off their rebuild, but they get Petersen who may not be an NHL goalie and they are going to trade Hart, they are really downgrading at goalie if Pet will be their #1 next season. Provorov is an upgrade over Gavrikov.

I was laughed at by Kings fans for saying it would take at least 2 1sts to dump Petersen with 0 retention. Most Kings fans believed Blake when he said he would be on their NHL club next season and that the Kings don't want or need to dump him especially if it costs more than a 2nd LOL.

Kings just paid Sean Walker (Kings fans wanted a late 1st or 2nd+3rd for him) + Helge Grans (2nd round pick) + a 2nd round pick to dump him at 3M (retained 2.025 for 2 years on Provorov which would be the same as retaining 2.025M on Petersen's contract).

Thats essentially a 1st + 2x 2nd round pick value to dump 2.975M for 2 years of Petersen.

They must be seething right now

Kings fans were more honest with me that Sean Walker is a cap dump. So move him to the other side of the ledger. It's basically 2 2nds to move $3m x 2.

Grans and a 2nd is far from 'free' + they dealt Walker + took on 30% of Provorov's contract for 2 years.
So a fringe prospect and a pick that likely won't amount to anything special, 1.666M is fk all compared to the money that they're saving.

CBJ's 2024 2nd round pick going to Philly is conditional: Columbus must decide after the 2024 first round is complete if they’re sending a 2024 2nd round pick or the 2025 2nd round pick to Philadelphia.

Given I can't imagine CBJ is worse next year than they were this year, I'd say there is a 99% chance this becomes a 2025 2nd.

Well done by Philly. Provorov is ridiculously overrated. Babcock is going to hate him

We thought we might get a 5th for Walker. Spence and Roy were the ones we valued way higher. Some fans were willing to give up a pick to dump Walker

Grans regressed. Our fan @Sol was obsessed with him but the majority of fans thought he was trade bait. He was a boom or bust ex 2nd rounder that regressed this year. He has size but slow feet.

The Kings save 5 mil on Peterson, 2.65 on Walker and take on just over 2 mil on Provorov. So we gain 5.5 mil cap space for basically a 2nd round pick and Grans. Walker was not valued high

Seems like a win-win-win to me?

Not sure about the pieces on LA side, but Petersen has been bad the last 2 years, Grans - is he any good? - and Walker... is he really that good?

Seems to me like they just got rid of 5.6M in cap for a 2nd round pick (the other picks were from CBJ).

I also thought that the Flyers were making out like bandits upon seeing the trade, but Provorov is a legit top 4 defenseman., A 1st (22oa) and 2x2nds is about a bit above the price of D rental at the deadline. And they take back Petersen and his contract, Walker and Grans - a lot of pieces here. Maybe Petersen figures it out, maybe Grans becomes a staple on their blueline. Shoot a lot of darts and some might hit.

Columbus got that top 4 D, retained on top of that, for a 1st and a 2nd? They can flip him 50% retain for at worst the same price at next year's TDL. In the meantime, he'll help their D.

Ersson will be the future #1. Peterson will take the shillacking while we rebuild and accumulate losses.
