If they don't solve the goaltending issue in the next 3 months, there is no chance of significant improvement.

Like I said, a team like Buffalo this makes more sense for. They already improved and are at a phase where playoffs are the natural next step.
The goaltending was atrocious because they had a skeleton of a roster playing in front of them on a team with no true system in place for at least half the season.

Goaltending will improve simply from having a healthy team in front of them. Let's not act like Columbus was a projected lottery team to start the season last year. By no means we're we expected to be solidified in a playoff spot, but the hockey world expected them to compete and then the wheels fell off the first month of play.

Staying healthy and adding Provorov and even a guy like Jiricek will improve the defense significantly.

And then on offense you add guys like Texier and Danforth back into the lineup, add a guy like Voronkov in the lineup (over a useless Roslovic and Sillinger) and it's not hard to see this team being miles better than last season.

If they're ignoring it, they're kind of not doing their job and alienating quite a few customers in the bargain.

I mean, you can possibly make a case for it not being a major or automatically disqualifying issue, but saying it isn't a "real issue" is going a bit too far.
I am very meh on this and many other social issues. People can believe and support whatever they want, just don't expect me to do the same, it doesn't matter which side of which issue. I may or may not agree with Provorov or Kaepernick or any number of other entertainers on any number of issues, but the great thing is I don't have to agree with anyone. I can still support them when they play for the team I cheer for or when they are in a movie that I like.
As a thought experiment, let's expand this to everybody and every issue. If I blackballled everyone who I disagree with on any one particular issue (I disagree with everyone on at least one issue), then I would not support anyone doing anything. Hell I don't even agree with myself 100% off the time.

Ignoring the trade itself, isn't it unfair for teams to be allowed to trade players while the playoffs are still going on?

If, hypothetically, Vegas wanted Provorov - what are they supposed to do? They can't trade a player on their active roster while they're in the SCF.
Yeah I feel real, real bad for Vegas... As a Jackets fan that just landed Provorov, there is no way I would trade places with them.

I hope you picked up on the sarcasm, because, see, Vegas is in the SCF for the 2nd time in their very short existence and the Jackets have sucked for 23 years. That's what makes my first statement a joke. Let me know if you need any more clarification.

Yeah, what if it was Florida who wanted Provorov? Never won a SCF game in their history. He could be the difference!

That’s great. What does it have to do with anything though? We can’t force everyone to feel that way. Reality is far different. Viqsi is right.

There's nothing stopping them from trading a player off their active roster while in the SCF. But then they wouldn't have the guy they traded, and the guy they acquired couldn't play for them in any playoff games this season, because it's after the trade deadline.

If Vegas wanted Provorov they could tell Briere that they would give him more than the Columbus/LA package once the Finals ended. And if Briere believed that offer was solid, he would have waited and traded Provorov to Vegas.

Silly post.

Big mistake by Columbus. Sean Walker alone is equal of that of Provorov this year.
Big win by PHI.

kings got off light here, impressive cap dump for the price.

flyers did well with all the assets they got. and if their plan is to tank, petersen is mrazek levels of suck, so nicely done.

the Flyers couldn't have waited 2 weeks? Florida seems like a team that would be one of the biggest suitors for Provorov.

Philadelphia got a lot.

Columbus being aggressive, I think Babcock is a good coach for a player like Provorov.

LA paid a lot to dump Petersen
Not if they sign Gavrikov.
Clearing 5.6 million off the books is huge.

If they don't I will agree with you.

By retaining on Prov, LA basically sheds three million for two years (but because Prov is not playing it's kind of like only two million because they have to pay another player at least league min to take that spot in the lineup).

And for that they give up Walker, Grans, and a 2nd or probably around a 1st and 2nd value wise for two years @ 2-3 million in cap savings.

Take away: the cost of shedding cap is very high.

It'll be interesting to see if it ends up as tough to shed cap as last off-season.

Flyers #1 dman is Tony Deangelo.

Cam York at this point probably. Sanheim if he recovers from whatever happened to him last season. But, the worse the better--get the handful of interesting prospects some playing time.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Tony D get bought out--based on the goods they got for eating a little cap, they'd probably do better using the buyout savings to take $3m and a 2nd from someone than whatever a $2.5m-retained DeAngelo would return.

They are allowed to talk to teams even when still playing…
They probably did but offer if any was beaten.

LA sent Quick, a 1st, a 2nd, Walker, Peterson and Grans, and the retain on Provorov just for 20 games of Korpisalo and (rumored) 2 years and 3 months of Gavrikov - a 2nd pairing defenseman.

Once Gavrikov and Vilardi are re-signed at what is likely around $10 million, they will have less than $3 million to get a STARTING goalie and to re-sign Kupari and potentially Anderson- Dolan, who may not be tendered now.

LA spent an awful lot of assets and cash just to tread water with a group can't get out of the first round.

I am pretty certain that JAD will be tendered and sign a 2-way contract. The biggest risk is that he doesn't clear waivers.
