That's not defensive at all. That's me sitting here with a straight face, working on something in one window and hitting F5 in the other (this one).

Businesses hire "advisors" for any of a number of reasons. To paint the entire position with a broad brush in either direction is foolish without knowing what actually goes on behind the scenes. No one on these boards does, so...

You just called me foolish. No one does that with a straight face. People usually are at the very least smirking when they do that. :sarcasm:

I seem to remember Patrick saying that he likes not having to travel much and simply be in an advisory role. I don't think he would want the job.

Jarmo Kekelainen would be a coup. An absolute coup. When JD was hired I had a thought about Jarmo joining the staff, but thought it was wishful thinking because JK seemed to want to be home in Finland once he left St. Louis. Maybe he simply wanted to be the man in charge, and maybe the draw of being an NHL GM with a former associate as the boss would sway him back to the NHL.

And I may be mistaken, but if Kekelainen was named GM, I think he would be the first Euro GM, no?

I dunno if you check out their boards lately some of them think Holland needs all the help he can get lol. Meh, logically I know it's a position that makes sense. I just try wrapping my mind around hiring an individual solely you can call them up every now and again to bend their ears about a player or trade, and knowing that it probably pays pretty well, and I just have a hard time with it. My mind gets it, my vicarious wallet doesn't understand it.

I don't understand many things about a corporate world.

Of course, it's funny what's happened to Detroit when their "next late-round gem" turns out to be a mediocre piece and when prize free agents go elsewhere.

I only smirk when I'm right. Which is damn near always.;)

I believe that's accurate. Of course, the first European coaches have been hired, so there'd be no fear of Alpo Suhonen making his way over.;)

Howson did some good things, but this move was needed, IMO. I like the defense he has put together, but I don't like the team he has put together. I wish him the best and hope he finds another job in hockey if he wants one.

I'll also add that in what seems to be a world of Howson apologists vs. the Fire Howson activists, I merely thought he was mediocre. I don't think he's a bumbling idiot like a lot of HF (not singling out this board, I mean all of HF) thinks, but I also don't think he was up to snuff. I'm excited that JD is looking to improve, and improvement means finding the best, not settling with passable.

Viqsi, I like you but you're awfully easy to wind up!

Sorry; as soon as we got idiots and fools suggesting that the protest had anything to do with this whatsoever I started seeing every trend that's going to emerge from this and I am not looking forward to it.

Here's a sampling:
  • Every single draft pick will be hailed as an ubersavior due to the New Guy and for no other reason.
  • Within hours, there will be renewed calls for the new guy to dump Tyutin, Wisniewski, Brassard, Mason, and Umberger, ASAP for whatever we can get, for no reason beyond their being uncomfortable reminders of Howson.
  • By October, if he's not scoring at a PPG clip or better, there will be calls to trade Johansen "as a remnant of Howson's failures."
  • By November or December, similar calls for Moore's ouster will be heard, whether he's playing well or not. After any and every loss.
  • In two or three years, assuming the team is performing as a whole, all will be credited to the new guy, despite few or no changes on the blueline.
  • IF, however, we haven't made the playoffs in two years, there will be calls to remove every single Howson-added player, up to and including JMFJ. Murray will be spared, as he will be deemed a "[new guy] player." A year after that, JD's head will be called for.
  • Daring to challenge any of the above will get you blacklisted as part of a "Sunshine Patrol" or "Positivity Police" and regularly flamed.
Such an exciting future! Can't wait. :p:

See, that I can understand and in large measure agree with.

Jarmo Kekalainen may be amongst those who are on the short list for CBJ's GM job. Worked with CBJ prez John Davidson in STL.

Yes yes yes yes please. Jarmo is awesome

Would love to see Jarmo. He did a great job drafting in St. Louis. I think he's got a great eye for talent. He gets my vote.

Good post and this is mostly how I feel.

If JD hires Jarmo, I get the sense he's saying, "Jarmo, go find me the best hockey players in the world, I'll do the rest."

Probably about a year overdue really, regardless of the returns, this past 15 months has been negative after negative, from the Carter Moping post trade, to the historically poor start in only year 2 of his "handpicked coach" to the open calls from the fanbase in front of arena for heads to roll, the Carter crap in the media, to the debacle of the trade deadline and the gross incompetence shown during pressers regarding Nash. As soon as some "overhead" comes aboard, Howson's out the door, makes me wonder exactly how long ago he would have been relieved of duty if our team president had always been more "Hockey-centric".

Howson did some good things, but in the end, he just wasn't moving this organization forward enough. Almost six years and the organization is essentially no closer to the cup than we were in April '07 when MacLean was fired.

My only regret is that Priest managed to wiggle his way out of this mess while still keeping, essentially, his same position.

Todd Richards better start looking over his shoulder, he only has another season left on his deal and unless marked improvement is shown in the W-L column, I don't expect he'll see the end of his 2 year deal he signed in the offseason.
