I predict that in one or two years the new guy will be getting all credit for the good performance of the blueline Howson's brought in.

but i really think GMSH done a solid job of bringing in good players

For those saying Craig Patrick should get the job:
What has he done for us so far?

Actually that's a good question. And I'm legit serious, not being facetious. What does he do? I know he's an advisor. But has anything come out as to him specifically being involved in anything? If it has I'm blanking on it.

Patrick is just an adviser.

"Hey Craig I'm thinking about making this deal for Jack Johnson, but it will cost us Jeff Carter. What do you think?"

"I'd pull the trigger, but see if you can get more."

Etc Etc

Ah yes. Makes sense. An advisor that advises. I dunno, that seems a bit redundant if we had a management team that had half a brain. And before I'm jumped on, Scotty had a brain and made some good moves. I loved the trade for JWills for example, just wish we would've kept him.

Detroit has multiple advisors who also happen to be former players.

Is Detroit's front office brainless? I can't imagine Ken Holland needing to seek the advice of Chris Chelios, Kris Draper, and Jiri Fischer. Or are they simply too carefree with their money, by keeping around former players in needless roles and cutting what are undoubtedly substantial paychecks for a role that doesn't need to exist?

Howson has made some good moves, particularly in the non-blockbuster trades and in the later-round draft picks.

I have no doubt that he is an intelligent man. I think he'd have been an awesome assistant GM for Columbus over the last few years and he may even be a great GM in the future.

But, at the end of the day, he didn't get the job done. The mistakes have outweighed the good moves which has resulted in more losses than wins.

Good luck, Scott - hope you learned from this experience, but it's time for the Jackets to turn the page and start over.

Biggest surprise in this? There wasn't even a Fire Howson thread on the first page of this thread at the time of his firing. People are really slacking around here...

That's not defensive at all. That's me sitting here with a straight face, working on something in one window and hitting F5 in the other (this one).

Businesses hire "advisors" for any of a number of reasons. To paint the entire position with a broad brush in either direction is foolish without knowing what actually goes on behind the scenes. No one on these boards does, so...

Well . . .

Now I can start wearing my CBJ gear again.

If they name the Finn as GM I will have to totally give up my stern determination to remain aloof and unimpressed.

Yes, Mr. Davidson, I am impressed. And grateful.

Rock the ice, my friends. Suddenly, against all odds, it's Jackets time!!

I dunno if you check out their boards lately some of them think Holland needs all the help he can get lol. Meh, logically I know it's a position that makes sense. I just try wrapping my mind around hiring an individual solely you can call them up every now and again to bend their ears about a player or trade, and knowing that it probably pays pretty well, and I just have a hard time with it. My mind gets it, my vicarious wallet doesn't understand it.
