I think that will become more evident soon
Could Dobes be our mid-season "Binnington addition", combined with the Laine return and allow us to go on a run (playoff run, not Cup run, LOL)?

And then Demidov joins the team end of March?

Can we dream?

That's just going in a circle
It kind of is but if Dobes is better than I have no problem exposing Pri to waivers

Lose him, bring up Dobes.

Sign a UFA for Laval and wait for Fowler.

Primeau is a very weak NHL goalie.

Not really.

If Primeau has not upside beyond being a journeyman back-up but Dobes could potentially be your starter, you gotta get Dobes in the net at the NHL level at some point.

Primeau requires waivers, so you sign a AHL vet who can be your 3rd goalie.. tons of teams have those.

Not gonna keep Dobes stuck in the AHL because of Primeau's waiver status. Primeau just doesn't have starter ability.

I’m not sure if they should even worry if Primeau is picked up on waivers. He is so replaceable via a UFA signing.
Why not just wait for a team to have many goalie injuries and offer them Primeau for a 4th or 5th round pick and call Dobes up. Dobes can start in the AHL it's not a problem.

Yeah, this is not a pressing issue.

I think Dobes be here by March at latest. I would let him see ton of rubber in Laval than backup

Better for Dobes see ton of rubber in Laval than ride pines in Montreal

You'll lose Primeau that way. Why throw away assets? What happens if Dobes backslides and needs to go back down? Then you have AHL goalie. Or Monty injury. You want depth, it is a factor.

Remember last year Hughes knew he'd lose Primesu and protected him. A cheap NHL caliber goalie, Primeau be claimed for sure. He has value. Flip him at deadline, get a 3rd or so. You know more what you have in Dobes then.

I’m in no rush to trade him. It’s not like it’s the top priority.

I just don’t see much in him. If Dobes keeps playing well in Laval than I would have no problem trading Pri at the deadline.

Yup, I'm thinking team like Boston would claim Primeau in heart beat. He's .915% save percentage with their defense. On league minimum contract.

He,'s .905% on Habs growing defense last year.

Primeau's problem is inconsistant. He can be good for 50 min then dump for the last 10 min. But we are in rebuild mode, why can you give Slaf 1 year and haft to become a play as he is, or Monty 3 years to be a starter and just after 1 year You put Primeau on waive ?

The way Hughes and Gorton play their cards, I don’t think we will loose Primeau on waivers. This isn’t Marc Bergevin’s ego or Bob Gainey’s foresight. Hughes got Laine and 2nd for Harris, a one leg Monahan for nothing turns into 2 first round picks. Highway robbery Petry for Matheson and 3rd, then Petry and 2nd for Hoffman.

Primeau will go for at least a 2nd round pick.

I think Dobes is Pekka Rinne clone.

If Dobes becomes Rinne...that would be amazing

Likely trade deadline. Goalies usually in demand then. Injuries to playoff teams. Dobes only 50 AHL games pro experience now. There's plenty time.
Yea I liked primeau's game last season and excited to see how he does with more games. Let him and montembault share the load, and then depending how Dobes is looking, you trade CP at the TDL and graduate Dobes.

Too early right now tho. Let Dobes cook in laval

A 2nd for Primeau sounds strong. Probably what Hughes asking though. I figured a 3rd. Primeau be gone at deadline, lastest. Dobes moves up to big club. Fowler be close to signing by then, joins Laval.

Dobes could be here sooner, injury or bad season

Areyou guys blaming Primeau for the 4 PP goals vs the Turds? He had almost no work all game because habs carried the 5 on 5 play, and then the PP shits the bed, and it's the goalies fault??

Primeau is far from perfect, and others have mentioned he can be great for 2 periods, and then bad for the 3rd period...............but you can't waive him because Dobes played well vs the Marlies.

No one is saying (well they shouldn't) to waive him.

He's gonna get the season to back up Monty and see if he can build up any value to be traded in the off-season.

Dobes is gonna get the year in the AHL and hopefully a long playoff run.

But come next year, Dobes is going to get the back-up job to Monty and Fowler is going to get the net with a vet in Laval.

Primeau's time is coming to an end here and it's simply because he's not a good enough goalie to beat out Monty and stay above Dobes/Fowler/Volokhin.

Most here aren't blaming Primeau for that, but he never mentally recovered from Mailloux falling on his ass which lead to the first goal on the PK. He was shaky and slow afterward and Dobes will climb above him in the goalie depth chart (if not already) and replace him.

And he's not getting waived, not sure why people are suggesting it. He should be traded at the deadline or the off-season thought.
