Still gotta give credit to Timmins from stiffling and blocking the insistence from the neandertal to trade the pick.
Timmins is looking better in hindsight. The problem was clearly on the post-draft handling and development side of things. A rotten culture in the Habs organization. Timmins earned his sack but it seems it was not his scouting that was problematic but everything else.

I would say our first line carried the game but RHP has done f*** all
I like RHP but he's not a 1st line player.
Can't believe I'm saying it but Dvorak will fix some of our problems by making Newhook available to play on the 1st line as a winger.
Weirdly I agree, the lines need to be rejigged bad, I’m hoping that with Dvorak back we can roll.

Caufield Suzuki newhook
Anderson Monahan slafkovsky
Gallagher Dvorak pearson
RHP Evans Ylonen/pezz

The lack of help Suzuki and caufield have make them worse right now and I think it will help the 2nd line to have a better puck possession player with slaf

Nice to see a breakout game for Suzuki. We'll only go as far as he and Caufield can carry us.

Despite some power play success last night, this team's special teams are still an absolute mess.
Special teams, that are not very special...............the PP will probably come around, but the PK for years now, has been too passive, no pressure on the guy who has the puck, and they get picked apart.....why can't a NHL coaching staff not pick this up? The box of 4 guys they use is way to small and tight................it's amazing how awful their PK is.......................Guy Carbonneau couldn't even save that PK.

Caufield is about as loveable a hockey player as i've ever seen play for the Habs in all my many years of watching them play. It's no surprise that he's as popular as he is with his teammates and fans. He genuinely looks like a kid playing a sport that he loves and enjoys every second of it. The way his face lights up like a Christmas tree when he or his teammates scores is absolutely priceless. Aside from his unbelievable shot and skill, it his overall demeanor that I just find infectious. I enjoy every minute of watching him play.

I agree wholeheartedly. As someone who loves playing hockey much more than watching it, I keep getting drawn by Cole's energy.

He is an incarnate for my idea of the love of the game, the early morning practices, the frostbiting night on the outdoor rinks, the thrill of rushing up the ice!

IMO they've both stunk for far too long. The last time the PP was a consistent threat was in the heady days of Koivu/Kovalev/Markov. Honourable mentions to Plekanec, AK, Souray, etc.

Prime example of Burrows being in over his head was against the Devils on Tuesday. The team persisted in using the extended drop pass despite the Devils hanging back and clogging up their blue line to thwart entry.

PK struggles can be summed up by soft clearing attempts.

System issues that have plagued the team for years regardless of players and coaches.

How is Jeff Petry doing BTW? :sarcasm:

On the IR I believe.

Where was slafs chances though? Sure he made some good passes but his general IQ was yet again a car accident and I’m taking age into consideration

I'm a guy that crapped a lot on Slafs but I must admit that this season he's at least shown some flashes of ability. I'm starting to think that he may break out in 2-3 seasons.

I hope Monahan stays healthy, he is vital to this team.

I'd just want to sign him for a major contract. If he can stay healthy I wouldn't be averse to a 4yr 5AAV contract.

We won because we had a HOF goalie shutting the door.

Sure Price was good during that run but he wasn't spectacular. What really helped us was our Big 4 D. It was something a lot of teams hadn't seen before. They literally crushed the life out of most offenses.

Dach being a 70 points center would make him better than Suzuki by a large margin.

But Dach isn't one. Criminy he can't even stay healthy for anywhere near a full season. Some people are entranced by that new car smell. It would be like saying: Slafs being a 40 goal winger would make him better than Caufield by a large margin.

I believe that should read fan

Pls continue..

That just reminded me of the fact that the Devils used to have their Stanley Cup parades in their parking lot.

I bet China would welcome him with open arms.

The frakk is that comment about?

Harris had a steady game and you can see MSL’s confidence in him as he rotated only two defencemen in overtime once the penalty kill was over: Matheson and Harris. Despite the willingness of some here to add Harris as a ‘throw-in’ or afterthought in many trade proposals, Harris is here to stay.

There's not as much physicality on 4-on-3 PP's, so of course Harris was a good choice, as he's a pretty smart player with rather good puck skills.

Here
9pts in 7 games for Cole and just like that Suzuki is back at 6pts in 7 games tied with Monahan

4-2-1, good start of the season, enterntaining so far.
Man it would so cool to have Dach on top of it!
Ya not having Dach really kills the makeup of the bottom 9, and the experience factor that he needs to acquire... Bummer.

Team played with total balls yesterday, very happy for them. Monty came in strong with those PK's.

Enjoy our fun early cause we've been barely able to beat some really bad teams.. would expect our record to get a lot worse as the season goes on.

Caufield shows he's a legit star offensive player at least, so we'll take that every day.
I don't mind losing right now, it's how we lose that matters.

For example, if we lose that game last night then okay. At least they made it a game, scored some goals, etc. If we lose continuous games like the Wild game the other night, that's when it becomes a tortuous watch and I tune out.

Barron played a shift as well.

3 vs 3 is an entirely different animal than 5 vs 5 and MSL wanted to have his three fastest dmen on the ice.
And how many games each season go into overtime? You need specialists to play special teams, to protect a lead and to play effectively in overtime. Until recently, we only had Petry as an option to play defence in overtime. Once Petry's shift was over, the drop off was significant. Now, with Harris, Guhle and soon, Hutson and Mailloux, our options after Matheson in 3 on 3 (and resulting effectiveness) are much more favourable. Your point that Harris is Montreal's third fastest defenceman, is the point that I was so indelicately trying to make: that in the short term, unless they receive a good offer, Harris is going nowhere.

It’s funny I always supported Slaf but after his giveaways last night I say something bad about him and everyone gets upset lol. Last week everyone hates on him and it’s fine. He makes a couple Drouin passes and now he’s a hero

Tank commander last year going down when he ‘seemingly’ could’ve still played.

Then taking a sweetheart of a deal when he could’ve waited and took us to the cleaners.

Add those two things to what you said and he’s likely my fave Hab ever sooner than later

He wants to win and he wants to do it with us. Beauty through and through

I think this was the first really bad game Slaf had this season. I think in the third period you could see the frustration and I guarantee that he was thinking about the points in that period and that affected his play in a negative way.

What I really don't understand is that Marty has a 1OA pick on his team in the most demanding market and he knows that this kid is being roasted everywhere for not producing.

And Marty wants to fix that by playing him 13 minutes per night with Anderson? Anderson cant even get a point while playing PP1, 4vs4, OT and 18 minutes per night with Suzuki and Caufield.

:help:
This is where losing Dach hurts a lot.

Imo, we might as well think long term, because we're going to have to trade at least 2 or 3 dmen by this time next year. Can't keep all of:

Matheson - Kovacevic
Guhle - Reinbacher
Xhekaj - Barron
Harris - Savard
Norlinder

That is assuming Reinbacher is ready, but assuming Mailloux, Trudeau, Struble, Hutson, etc... aren't ready. And of course one or more of them may be ready.
