The Columbus Blue Jackets swept the Tampa Bay Lightning in the playoffs. The Montreal Canadiens won a game against Tampa Bay last year.
You didn't answer my question at all, because you know you can't without proving my point.

People love to bring up Columbus beating the Lightning like it wasn't some once in a lifetime fluke, which it was. And the Habs? Really? They made the final because of COVID. They are now the second worst team in the league.

So you can either answer my question or you can't, but either way it's an answer.

Kakko made some really sick plays tonight. One pass in OT in particular really stood out. High IQ pass in the OZone keeping the play onside. He has been a legit 2 way top 6 winger. Not just a kid fighting for a chance but a line driver. Really happy to see considering he's still young as hell and like 6 years away from his prime.

He's fun to watch now, but I can only imagine the treat we're in for when he's 25+
heh heh ... when he's 25 they'll trade him to St L for "badly needed" grit.

It's not about the wins and losses man. I really don't understand the consternation towards @TheBloodyNine. I get he's antagonizing a bit but I don't see how people can be pleased with the way this team has played at even strength, I just can't. They aren't even a positive goal differential at 5v5, never mind corsi and expected goals where they are at the bottom of the league, and this is with the best goaltending in the NHL. I don't begrudge people for being happy when they win, but the complaining about other people not being satisfied with the way the Rangers are playing is ridiculous. Have we learned nothing from the past? I want this team to win and it's less likely that they do if they are not a good 5v5 team it's that simple.

It's possible to keep a positive mental state after a loss and during a stretch of subpar play. This is still a young team. Growing pains are still going to be a thing. I choose to deal with it in a positive way, guess that's the difference.

It's not all about even strength. Winning and losing in many games is determined by special teams and goaltending and we are very good in all of those. I also think we will get better 5 vs 5 if Mika is coming out of his funk. Fox, Panarin, Shesty, and Mika playing well will win them a lot of games. Tonights games was even in play and we could have easily won and it's not the end of the world to get only 1 point. It's not a disaster.

So you want examples where bad teams consistently beat good teams throughout history? What else do you expect but what would most likely be one-offs?

Honest question, do you expect this team to play perfect always? Why do you watch sports if you can't handle losses/non-perfect play?

Here, I googled "greatest hockey upsets" for you: https://thehockeywriters.com/top-10-greatest-stanley-cup-playoff-upsets-picks-1-5/

Get the lady some shoes for Christmas :)

Brett Freakin Howden in on both goals. Ughh!

I'm surprised they didn't call on him in the shootout.

you watch, he’s going to have a career as a productive bottom sixer.
He’s got the speed and the hustle, but he’s still young and developing.
That said, his time was done as a ranger. Overused constantly to the detriment of other players by Quinn when he should have been in the AHL.
He needed to be traded away. Figures he gets 2 points though and sticks us.

overall, I thought as a whole we played well as a team. I thought Geo did well, when we needed the big save late, he couldn’t deliver. But he did make some quality saves during the game. The best thing I saw was his response. He didn’t crumble after 2-2. He had a solid OT/shootout. He gave the team a chance to win, that’s all you can ask out of your back up.
LaF and Kakko played well. Saw some encouraging things.
Zibby looked like he’s picking up his play. Besides the goal which was an absolute snipe, his pass to kreider had eyes on it to get thru all those legs/traffic.
Though Nemeth-Hajek was good. Solid. What you expect out of your 3rd pair.
Chytil looked lost. He wasn’t very good in this one. I honestly think he’s on borrowed time here. Scratched and then a sub par performance. I think he knows it too, which is most likely not good for his confidence.
I think Hunt being away from Rooney/Reaves isn’t a good idea. Their 4th line def outplayed ours, but I think that Hunt-Rooney-Reaves trio just works very well for us. Each guy knows their job. I’d like them to be reunited and stay that way please Gallant. They’ve been a big reason why our record is where it is right now.
I just really dislike McKegg. He reminds me of Howden when he was here. Fast, but provides absolutely nothing else. Really would like to see Barron up and reward his play. Every little chance I get to watch Hartford, he always stands out in a good way. Kid deserves some games with no panarin, Blais etc.
All in all good effort. Take the point and move on. Probably should have been the winners here, but with no panarin/shesty you take it, on to the next.

That was three of the lamest shootout attempts I have ever seen
Shootouts in the regular season are one of the lamest things the NHL ever introduced to hockey (ties were more fair), so either they cancel eachother out or two negatives become a plus.

With both Panarin and Shestyerkin out, NYR shouldn't exactly cruise to victory. And they didn't. At least Zibanejad is starting to score now.

And @EdJovanovski you know the Grinch didn't hate christmas, he hated people, right? ;)

And your team is measured against who you can beat and who you cannot.

Actually... it is measured according to the standings.

A team that wins all games against top 5 in the league but loses all other games are not going to hoist the cup.

I think we can all agree there are lots of things to work on. But getting into the playoffs and getting some playoff experience for this young team is extremely important.

Having a deep run would be icing on the cake.

Hayek has been very good and playing his off side. Filip is all messed up….thinking too much. Georgie girl obviously needs playing time to stay sharp…I am not too sure a big piece is added midseason but GG doesn’t let much bother him…just come ready to play…..Remember 2nd round was the goal this season

As obnoxious as TheBloodyNine is, and believe me, I’ve never been more inclined to use the ignore feature, but it’s been really refreshing, since I’ve been back, to see how well the boards are moderated now. It feels…..free.

Playoffs is the goal, everything else is bonus. We aren't contenders until we get Kakko and Laf contributing like they should, and they will, it looks like it just might take some time, Kakko is a year ahead and looks much better this year. This part is the frustrating part to me, the organization is more concerned about wins and loses than they are about making sure the kids turn out well. It was night and day two games ago how much better Lafreniere looked when they had him out at the end of the game and last night when they relied on him in the top 6, he needs to play and be a part of the solution and he cant be anchored by two guys that cant create or finish offense.

The Grinch is pretty misunderstood.

“Ability to beat good teams” is not equal to playing perfect every night. I’d take them playing perfect for one night because that never happens. They are routinely outplayed at 5v5.

oh, and that’s why they are called “upsets” because they are not something that happens with large frequency. If you’re gonna live your life banking on upsets I got news for you, you are very rarely going to be happy. “Anything can happen” is a myth they tell children. 99% the thing that is supposed to happen does happen.

The future of Georgiev should not be with the Rangers (he just doesn't work as a backup), but it's nice to see him shut up some people who were questioning his ability to be an NHL goaltender. I think he still has that ability. Just needs a fresh start somewhere.

Mika had one of if not the best game of his season. Hopefully he can build on that.

Kakko showed some flashes, but I didn't think he played that great contrary to some people here. Oh well. As for Laf who has been mostly invisible this year, that back check was awesome.

If someone last week offered me 3/6 points from playing Colorado, Arizona and Vegas, knowing we'd play Georgiev and Kinkaid and be without Panarin for 1,5 of those games, I'd take that instantly. Some may say that's loser mentality, but this team is still developing under a new coach. Despite our great record to start this season, no one here expected us to be contenders yet and losing to a team like Colorado is not that bad. Taking a point from Vegas was still great.

Gallant - terrible night

He coached a brutal 3rd period

Team started flat again @
Home

And… he missed a “ golden “ chance to use Chytil in the shootout …
He was flying in OT “ feeling it “
Should be able to fly in OT ...nobody out there that is going to hit him .

Pitt 11-2-1 in the last 14 games

By the end of January they will be ahead of the Rangers in the standings.

Bookmark this and shove it down my throat if I'm wrong.

If the Pens are ahead of us, it’s pretty much what everyone expected going into this season.

So I’m not sure why everyone is being so defensive about their stance on the Rangers.

Are they over achieving? Yes. Do they also have enough to be where they are and we should expect more? Also Yes.

I get it, but can we just sit back enjoy where this team is? No one is saying they are a shoe-in for the Cup.

We were hoping for a playoff berth and it looks like they’ve already achieved that before Christmas. Id be happy to see a round or two when it wasn’t expected.

More concerned about seeing improvements from the young building blocks than anything else right now

While we're at it, the REAL reason why I keep picking on Kandre Miller is because.... hang on, my toast is ready, I'll be right back.
